OMG - 2 Mini-Strokes

BEADS OF JOY 08-17-14
“OMG – 2 Mini-Strokes!!”
©2014 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Holy cow this took a long time to type!!! What can I say? Other than -Thank you Jesus for sparing my life and allowing me to move forward into a healing. I don’t know what to say, except, I highly recommend that when your body is telling that something is wrong, it’s usually right. With me, as many of you would probably say the same thing, “I know my body, its rhythm, its daily fluctuations… I can tell when something is out of sync.”

Wednesday was a beautiful, relaxing day. I needed the rest so bad after Tuesday’s incident and a day spent at the hospital. Little did I realize that on Tuesday I had a mini-stroke (TIA)? At this point on Wednesday I had no idea. So I relaxed and studied for my State Exam for my Endorsement. On this day I tested 5 times, got 100/100/100/90/60 on 5 tests. I knew I knew this stuff. I needed an 80 to pass, the odds are in my favor.

Thursday began like most days in my life; vitamin, water, light breakfast and light exercise. But today was going to be different; after about an hour or so of being up, a mild headache began. And much to my displeasure it continued. I didn’t want to be on Aspirin all day, so I did nothing. I tolerated the pain. We had some errands to do and I was taking a state exam for my Doubles/Triples Endorsement for my CDL-A license. After being at Motor Vehicle for some time on-line and eventually getting a computer to take my exam -the challenges really began. I was having so much trouble understanding the questions. Honestly to me they weren’t making any sense (English wise)… It was a gibberish sentence, I got the basic idea; but I wasn’t able to comprehend the question. In the end after skipping many questions I got 10/20 correct, then I got 4 wrong and failed. After the test I was telling Chrissy, “I can’t understand why it wasn’t making any sense to me? I know the material.”

It's obvious to me now why I was having such a problem with understanding words and sentences.. Then on Saturday when I wrote this Chrissy asked me,"Would you like me to cut some celery for you?" You'd think I was a foreigner that had no idea what she was talking about if you saw my face... I was like, "What????" She looked at me like I had 3 heads, "Do you want me to?" I said, "Cellery????" She was like, "Yeah, Celery!! would you like me to cut some up for you?" Then all of sudden I remembered what "Celery" was.. WOW !!!

This past week: Monday forward has many scary things that happened to me; in the full picture of the end result being that I had 2 mini-Strokes this week it all makes sense. It has taken a long time for me to type this. My typing skills of words and sentences have been a mess all week. I’m not having any trouble with speaking… LOL –Hey Shut up!!! (you know who you are) LOL… too funny… I know many wish I would just shut up.. LOL

Hospital Visit (3 days)
The doctor said, “Deep inside your brain, as part of your DNA genetic make-up we have found a spot that shows you have had a stroke.” Side note: My mom’s mom was epileptic and through her life she experienced mini-strokes. The doctor further told me that through these tests we can see you had two Episodes of (TIA) –meaning Mini-Stroke. These findings tell them that I had two episodes, one was more serious than the other. Exactly what day was what it don’t tell them? In some ways the Tuesday was dramatic because I fell unconscious and lost mechanic motion with my left arm/hand. But then Thursday lasted a good part of the day and I also lost grabbing ability with the same hand. No matter I am home waiting to see my Personal Physician to get her take on the entire situation. Hopefully I can get back to work real soon...

I will keep everyone posted... Thank you all for your love and your continued prayers...

My Friends,
UPDATED LIST for Friday, August 15, 2014.
Every single Friday at Midnight (Eastern Standard Time) I will POST an updated blog, with new names of those joining us and the new mystery each of us will pray on that Friday… Thank you all for joining us. Let us begin this Rosary -as you would begin any Rosary -with The Apostles Creed… then Your Mystery...and end together with the Hail Holy Queen…
THE APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified; died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

After you prayed your ONE mystery -finish your Rosary like you normally would any other Rosary…
HAIL HOLY QUEEN
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Leader: Pray for us O Holy Mother of God,
All: That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. -AMEN
(Optional)
Leader: Let us pray.
All: O God whose only begotten Son by his life, death, and Resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant we beseech thee, that meditating on these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

Benefits of Praying The Rosary
(Given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche)
1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies
4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovoked death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death
14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Blessing of the Rosary
1. Sinners are forgiven.
2. Souls that thirst are refreshed.
3. Those who are fettered have their bonds broken.
4. Those who weep find happiness
5. Those who are tempted find peace.
6. The poor find help.
7. Religious are reformed.
8. Those who are ignorant are instructed.
9. The living learn to overcome pride.
10. The dead (the Holy Souls) have their pains eased by suffrages.

Indulgences
from Enchiridion indulgentiarum Recitation of the Marian Rosary (Rosarii marialis recitatio)
An indulgence is the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, a remission, which one of the faithful, properly disposed and under certain definite conditions, can acquire through the Church, which authoritatively dispenses, applying the treasure of the satisfactions of Christ and the Saints.
An indulgence is either PLENARY or PARTIAL, depending upon whether it frees one from the whole or from a part of the temporal punishment due to sin.
This means that one of the faithful who, with at least a contrite heart, performs a work enriched with a partial indulgence, is granted by the power of the Church that same amount of remission of temporal punishment as he has already obtained by the work itself. In other words, the remission is doubled, and that as often as the work prescribed is performed.  A plenary indulgence means a full remission of temporal punishment, provided that several other conditions apply, in addition  to the work performed or prayer said.
A plenary indulgence is granted, if the Rosary is recited in a church or public oratory or in a family group, a religious Community or pious Association; a partial indulgence is granted in other circumstances.
  • "Now the Rosary is a certain formula of prayer, which is made up of fifteen decades of "Hail Marys" with an "Our Father" before each decade, and in which the recitation of each decade is accompanied by pious meditation on a particular mystery of our Redemption."(Roman Breviary) The name "Rosary," however, is commonly used in reference to only a third part of the fifteen decades.
The gaining of the plenary indulgence is regulated by the following norms:
  • 1) The recitation of a third part only of the Rosary suffices; but the five decades must be recited continuously.
  • 2) The vocal recitation must be accompanied by pious meditation on the mysteries.
  • 3) In public recitation the mysteries must be announced in the manner customary in the place; for private recitation, however, it suffices if the vocal recitation is accompanied by meditation on the mysteries.

OMG - That Scared Me!!

BEADS OF JOY 08-12-14
“OMG - That Scared Me!!”
©2014 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

OK... This was not a good day for me… I did wake up feeling fine, at least I thought I was. I was the only one awake when I woke up this morning. I had some green tea, a banana and a small salad. Still feeling incredibly well, so I thought. But much to my surprise the entire day would collapse in front of me… pun intended.

I was online on our Ministry page as I typically am, for the past 3 decades, prepare the morning prayers and the day ahead. Well this morning was unlike any morning I have ever experienced before in my life. In the midst of my tying, my left forearm and hand went limb (like dead – (not numb) but rather motionless). My brain was telling my hand MOVE and it wouldn’t respond at all. I used my right hand to push and move my left hand and I unfortunately got no-response. My left hand just motionlessly moved on the keyboard. YES I was scared out of my wits. So I pondered for a moment and didn’t have a clue what to do. So I leaned back in my chair and left arm fell motionlessly to my side like it was dead… I got chills up spine, now I knew something is wrong here…

After a minute or two I got up and figured maybe I need to just move around, after all it was still morning. But at that point was up for a while. I already had my vitamin, did my exercise and I ate something. The windows were open and the fan was bringing in a cool refreshing breeze from outside. But what was about to happen would scare the life out of me.

I got up and walked 2 steps and collapsed (passed out). I think it was only for a couple of minutes, I don’t really know. When I realized I as on the floor, my body had no strength or ability to stand up, I just couldn’t get up, and yes my left arm/hand were still unresponsive and unusable. OMG – That Scared Me!! I was totally beside myself at this point. I didn’t know what to do, everyone was still sleeping in the back of the house. So I crawled with one arm and two very weak legs to the couch. After getting up on the couch I just laid there in tears. Praying that whatever this was it would pass. At the same time, my right arm was forcing motion in my left arm. Within a few minutes I got my responsive motion back… Yes I was relieved, but still scared.

After a couple of minutes I got up and took a walk outside, to get some fresh air and I figured the stroll would be good. The refreshing cool air of the morning felt fantastic, but I still felt weak and a bit worn out. So I got back in the house and I felt a bit dazed and light headed. So I woke Chrissy up and asked her to get me to the hospital. I was NOT DRIVING today. Chrissy, love her precious heart, she bolted out of bed, hit the bathroom, got dressed and she was ready. I was already ready. Before we left the driveway I was in the passenger seat laying back; while she used my phone to text my boss and post my health issue to all of you for prayer.

I pretty much kept my eyes closed with the cool a/c on my face for the ride to the hospital. Once there, the ER was empty. I was grateful, they were able to take me right away. Today they hooked me up to IV, immediately did some blood work; hooked me up to the blood pressure machine (124/76), took a chest x-ray and they did a brain CAT scan. Holy cow… Long day at the hospital indeed. I ate hospital food today (always interesting), but I must say the Chicken sandwich and Chicken soup were pretty good and Chrissy took the coffee they gave me.

At the Hospital...
Chrissy stayed by my side (I am one lucky dude to have such a loyal sweetie next to me)... They did an EKG, IV hook-up, lung x-ray, blood-work, blood pressure machine and a Brain CAT scan... All results were not life threatening... PRAISE JESUS... but the overall concerns were pointed out... Can this happen again? (YES) Can I pass out again? (YES). The doctor thinks it maybe Neurological so he suggested I see my Primary Care Physician so through her I can see a Neurologist. My left knee was badly bruised up from the fall (I was bleeding and black and blue). I really don’t remember being hurt when I fell.. And the doctor suggested a couple of days rest… So I am taking a couple days rest, to be safe.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!
