Day 8 - Walking For Good Health

©2015 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

Hello My Friends,

I am going to share with you, a great joy I have each day now in my life. Each and every day I awake, I post the day’s prayers, take a hot shower and head out with Mr. McRuff for our morning walk. We’re not looking to break any records in time or distance; this is our time to exercise. He needs to lose some weight after all he is just a little Mixed Terrier and I to need to lose some weight after all I am just an old ill guy that don’t get around much anymore. LOL

We average about 2.4-2.6 miles a day, it usually taking us 45 minutes to an hour. I am the one who forces the multiple rest-stops that I need. Many know, but many don’t. Last August 2014 I had 2 mini-strokes, then starting in January 2015 my side effects began; by March I spent most of the month in the hospital. My left arm and leg are tingly numb constantly and weak. Plus there are a number of other side effects, foggy memory, headaches and dizzy spells and more; recently we learned that my blurred vision is from brain damage from the strokes... That is why I need multiple stops to be able to walk with Mr. McRuff. When I get home I am exhausted, but within a few hours I am ok and I feel more uplifted emotionally, the walking helps me stay upbeat and positive… So it does help me in ways medication can’t help me. I too am losing weight by the way.

Check out the many benefits of walking every day… In the past even during the time I had my strokes I was an avid daily walker. The benefits of simply walking are incredible…
ü Helps you lose and maintain a healthier weight.
ü Your heart gets stronger.
ü  Circulation improves, pumping blood up from your legs.
ü  Your risk for having Diabetes decreases.
ü  It reduces STRESS big time.
ü  Saves you money… It’s a no cost exercise. You can do it anywhere and at any time. No membership required.
ü  Beats back the risk of cancer, strokes and dementia.
ü  Helps you have a longer healthier life.
ü  Lowers you Blood Pressure…
ü  Helps lower you LDL Cholesterol.
ü  Walking ultimately is better than medicine when done regularly and you add a healthy diet and you drink lots of water…

Now see the pictures of Mr. Mc Ruff today… This was during our walk..

And this is him once we get home. Right by Chrissy’s (mommy’s) side in heaven sleeping… if Chrissy is sleeping and she sleeps most days all day; you will always find Mr. McRuff in this exact spot in this exact position…

Day 5 - Never Give Up

©2015 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

Hello My Friends,

If anyone has a good reason to give up, believe me it’s me. But I never will, I have a wonderful supportive family, countless irreplaceable friends and a solid Christian faith that keeps me Joyful and Happy and Content… But why did I say that first sentence? I’m sure I don’t stand alone with being pummeled with so much stress that no one person or family should shoulder, but this is my life. While some people live pay-check to paycheck, we live meal to meal, no more food money till now August 8 –tough road ahead. That is my biggest burden in life right now… is feeding my family. And of cause the bills that never stop, never end; that get rammed down your throat, even if you’re hospitalized with life changing issues -the bills slam right into your face with no mercy and bill collector’s call like it’s their personal money 8am-9pm 7 days a week. And oh yea, we are like inches away from being homeless (living out of our cars), that’s very real for us… Scary and Real… Ok... I just vented a bit, SORRY… but I needed that…  We all need to vent… it is healthier to vent then hold it all in…

Here I am saying don’t give up, never give up and I am whining like a baby who wants its bottle. Stress is a killer, don’t let anyone else tell you any different. Stress has a way to ripping apart your dreams, your creativity, your ideas, your Joy. Stress has no mercy for you. How do we deal with this on a daily basis? Well, drugs help a lot, but aside from that; I am only on prescription medication, I have never nor will I ever take any Drug (narcotic) whatever… No WAY…  The best way of dealing with stress is with exercise, walking and finding something to distract your attention is what you need to make it through the next day of stress.

That’s what I do… Mr. McRuff and I take our daily 2-3 mile walk every day through town. I am losing weight, he is losing weight and my mind has a chance for at least 45 minutes a day to breathe in fresh air and clear my mind. It really feels great. YES, my left leg bothers me; YES, my left arm gets all tensed up. My whole left side is tingling numb constantly, but I forge forward… But when I get home I feel a bit refreshed and a little bit energized. I use to be a “walking junkie” in the past, I love the endorphin rush you get from exercise (walking especially). Today we walked 2.4 miles. It took 45 minutes (3 rest stops – for me) and when I got home, I was wiped out and sweating like crazy, my Blood pressure was 117/75... Excellent!!! See in the end it’s all worth it. Now I will drink 8-10 bottles of water with fresh lemon throughout the rest of the day…  Little by little I have to do what I can do, so I don’t let my weight and lack of movement kill me…

Never Give Up, even if they (the stress) beat you to death!!!

©2015 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

7/19/15 SUNDAY -Rosary Man Jim's Reflection/Prayer

Rise and Shine my sisters and brothers it's Sunday Morning. Today's Gospel is Mark 6:30-34 (The Return of The Twelve) We must know that in our battle against sin and evil; Jesus is always ever ready to give us help, strength and refuge.

Dear Jesus, we know that you guard and protect us from all evil. No matter what is said or done outside -can't ever affect you who is inside of me. Please: Help me to stand firm in your word and to trust in your help in all circumstances, no matter how difficult. In you Lord may I find rest and refuge in the shelter of your presence, always... AMEN.

7/18/15 SATURDAY -Rosary Man Jim's Reflection/Prayer

Good Morning my dear blessed sisters and brothers. It sure is great to be back. Today's Gospel is Matthew 12:14-21 (The Man With a Withered Hand) When you faced with trials and difficulties in this life, do you rely completely on God's help and grace?

Dear Lord, your love and mercy knows no bounds. Please give me strength when I am weak, hope when I am discouraged, peace when I am troubled, consolation when I am sad, and understanding when I am perplexed. Make me an instrument (a channel) of your love and peace to those who are troubled and without hope, always serving you Lord... AMEN.

7/17/15 FRIDAY -Rosary Man Jim's Reflection/Prayer

Good morning everybody. The week has ended and the weekend is about to begin. I pray that you had a wonderful week. Today's Gospel is Matthew 12:1-8 (Picking Grain on The Sabbath) Do you honor the Lord in the way you treat your neighbor and celebrate the Lord's Day?

"Lord, make us to walk in your way: Where there is love and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance; where there is patience and humility, there is neither anger nor annoyance; where there is poverty and joy, there is neither greed nor avarice; where there is peace and contemplation, there is neither care nor restlessness; where there is the fear of God to guard the dwelling, there no enemy can enter; where there is mercy and prudence, there is neither excess nor harshness; this we know through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." (Prayer of Francis of Assisi)

7/16/15 THURSDAY -Rosary Man Jim's Reflection/Prayer

It is another beautiful morning. Good morning my dear precious sisters and brothers in Christ. Today's Gospel is Matthew 11:28-30 (The Gentle Mastery of Christ) Do you know the joy of resting in Jesus' presence and walking daily with him along the path he has for you? Try it...

Dear Jesus, Please fill my heart with your love and your ways; I want so much to submit to your holy and loving word. I wish to be set free from my own sinful ignorance and rebellious pride that I may only desire what is good and in accord with your will. I fall and fail often Lord, Please keep me more alert to my ways so that I am more pleasing to you... AMEN.

7/15/15 WEDNESDAY -Rosary Man Jim's Reflection/Prayer

Good morning to all my sisters and brothers around the world. It is so joyful to unite with each day in prayer, with no barriers -only our unity in our prayers. Today's Gospel is Matthew 11:25-27 (The Praise of The Father) Do you pray to your Father in heaven with joy and confidence in his love and care for you?

Dear Jesus, I desire a child-like simplicity in who I am and true purity in my faith; so that I may gaze upon you with pure joy and confidence in your merciful love. Please Lord, remove every bit of doubt, fear and prideful thought which would hinder me from receiving your word with trust and humble submission. My life is nothing without you Lord... AMEN.

7/14/15 TUESDAY -Rosary Man Jim's Reflection/Prayer

Good morning my dear precious sisters and brothers. May our Lord always bless you with a heart full of joy. Today's Gospel is Matthew 11:20-24 (Reproaches to Unrepentant Towns) Do you receive our Lord's word with faith and obedience or with doubt and indifference?

Dear Jesus, I ask that you take away the darkness of my heart and give me a true deep strong faith; combined with real hope and an absolute perfect love for you. Please Lord, give me a loving heart that desires to do everything in fulfillment to your holy will in my life. I ask this through you Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior... AMEN.

7/13/15 MONDAY -Rosary Man Jim's Reflection/Prayer

Good Morning my dear precious sisters and brothers. Another week has begun, I pray that you had a wonderful weekend. Today's Gospel is Matthew 10:34 - 11:1 (The Conditions of Discipleship) Does your love of Jesus Christ compel you to put God first in all that you do every single day? YES !!!

Dear Lord, Please set my heart ablaze with the fire of the Holy Spirit, so that I may love you above all things and so receive the rewards you have promised each of us. This life serves no meaning without you Lord; no matter who hates you -I shall always love you and your most Blessed Mother for all eternity... AMEN.

Ambassadors of the Rosary

My Friends,

UPDATED LIST for Friday, July 17, 2015.
Every single Friday at Midnight (Eastern Standard Time) I will POST an updated blog, with new names of those joining us and the new mystery each of us will pray on that Friday… Thank you all for joining us. Let us begin this Rosary -as you would begin any Rosary -with The Apostles Creed… then Your Mystery...and end together with the Hail Holy Queen…

THE APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified; died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

After you prayed your ONE mystery -finish your Rosary like you normally would any other Rosary…

HAIL HOLY QUEEN
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Leader: Pray for us O Holy Mother of God,
All: That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. -AMEN

(Optional)
Leader: Let us pray.
All: O God whose only begotten Son by his life, death, and Resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant we beseech thee, that meditating on these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

Benefits of Praying The Rosary

(Given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche)

1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.

2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies

4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovoked death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.

9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death

14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.

15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Blessing of the Rosary

1. Sinners are forgiven.
2. Souls that thirst are refreshed.
3. Those who are fettered have their bonds broken.
4. Those who weep find happiness
5. Those who are tempted find peace.
6. The poor find help.
7. Religious are reformed.
8. Those who are ignorant are instructed.
9. The living learn to overcome pride.
10. The dead (the Holy Souls) have their pains eased by suffrages.

An indulgence is the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, a remission, which one of the faithful, properly disposed and under certain definite conditions, can acquire through the Church, which authoritatively dispenses, applying the treasure of the satisfactions of Christ and the Saints.
An indulgence is either PLENARY or PARTIAL, depending upon whether it frees one from the whole or from a part of the temporal punishment due to sin.
This means that one of the faithful who, with at least a contrite heart, performs a work enriched with a partial indulgence, is granted by the power of the Church that same amount of remission of temporal punishment as he has already obtained by the work itself. In other words, the remission is doubled, and that as often as the work prescribed is performed.  A plenary indulgence means a full remission of temporal punishment, provided that several other conditions apply, in addition  to the work performed or prayer said.

A plenary indulgence is granted, if the Rosary is recited in a church or public oratory or in a family group, a religious Community or pious Association; a partial indulgence is granted in other circumstances.

  • "Now the Rosary is a certain formula of prayer, which is made up of fifteen decades of "Hail Marys" with an "Our Father" before each decade, and in which the recitation of each decade is accompanied by pious meditation on a particular mystery of our Redemption."(Roman Breviary) The name "Rosary," however, is commonly used in reference to only a third part of the fifteen decades.

The gaining of the plenary indulgence is regulated by the following norms:

  • 1) The recitation of a third part only of the Rosary suffices; but the five decades must be recited continuously.
  • 2) The vocal recitation must be accompanied by pious meditation on the mysteries.
  • 3) In public recitation the mysteries must be announced in the manner customary in the place; for private recitation, however, it suffices if the vocal recitation is accompanied by meditation on the mysteries.

Day 1 - Taking Charge of my Health

©2015 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

Hello My Friends,

Quick historical personal review and why I needed to do this. As so many of you know I had 2 strokes back in August of 2014, when I was an extremely healthy 186 lbs, working out every day, eating only raw fruits and vegetables (smoothies and salads) and running 2 miles a day. Well, by January 2015 all my side effects started to flare up and by March I was hospitalized for most of the month; one week of blood pressure issues; another week of blacking out incidents at work and at home (my left side fully numb since January); and my last week of constant dizzy spells that were driving me crazy. I have memory issues and recently I have learned that the strokes caused brain damage affecting my sight. My Neurologist took away my driving privileges rendering me disabled, due to all these very disruptive neurological issues. Anyhow… after a lymphoma infection in my left leg (doubling the size of my leg and a reaction from the medication) my body blew up to a whopping 261.8 lbs, my next weigh in for me won’t be till at least Friday, July 24… That was a very quick review, now let’s fast forward to yesterday…

Yesterday for me was a gloom and doom day… Why? I think it’s because the entire day I felt wiped out and exhausted. I slept Monday night 9pm -5:30am… Yeah that seems nice, but throughout the day I was so tired. I then took a nap from about 3:30pm -7pm… Oh I’m not done then I went back to bed last night by 9 and slept from 10pm to 7am this morning… Way too much sleep, this isn’t healthy…. Why? I think it’s because I have become so sedentary with my day to day existence. Not a good way to try to make the most out of my days of stroke recovery. In the midst of that entire day of exhaustion and sleepiness it was kind of an awakening for me. I need to just get out and get going. Walking, hmmmm is / was always my favorite drug; I use to be so addicted to it and it always made me feel wonderful. So that’s the back story to today’s adventure…

Today after waking up from 9 hours of sleep… I woke up exhausted. I already had promised Mr. McRuff that today he and I would begin our daily walk regimen. So after all my medication and a refreshing hot shower/shave... Time to gear up, put on Mr. McRuff’s harness and hit the road. Today we walked 1.9 miles (8:24 – 9:07am), see how we can enjoy Milford for such a wonderful, beautiful, safe local walk.

It was a really wonderful and very refreshing walk, sunny cool refreshing 61 degrees. We got to see many people we knew; and we also got to say Hi to so many strangers along the way. We only rested once at the First Presbyterian Church for three minutes. I didn’t take my camera this journey; but I figured since it was our maiden voyage, we should just focus at the task at hand –and that was exercise and routine.

After we got home Mr. McRuff drank almost a bowl of water and jumped in bed with Chrissy curled up, flip upside down with his paws dangling in the air and minutes later you could hear him snoring. Yeah he had a rough morning I can see. Me, I got all energized to write this out and focus on the creative part of me, the part of me that wants to be creative every day. Sitting here drinking some lemon ice water feels refreshing... My return blood pressure was 148/86… Well it is only my first day, sure hope to see that drop. My meal was a huge bowl of 32oz of chopped spinach and 16oz of mini onions sprinkled with garlic and lemon pepper. This was delicious…

PS… In the midst of this morning’s walk -My Spirit is on fire with ideas and thoughts of some very creative ways to reignite the ministry. Our Lord has a plan for me. I honestly don’t “see” it yet, but I got to say I “feel” it and I know He wants to use me even more to help and to pray for others. All of you are such an inspiration to me. Please keep in touch...
