One Man Should Die

BEADS OF JOY 03-24-18
“One Man Should Die”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 11:45-56 (Session of the Sanhedrin)
“Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him; but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. So, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council, and said, "What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. If we let him go on thus, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and destroy both our holy place and our nation." But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all; you do not understand that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish." He did not say this of his own accord but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So, from that day on they took counsel how to put him to death. Jesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews but went from there to the country near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim; and there he stayed with the disciples. Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves. They were looking for Jesus and saying to one another as they stood in the temple, "What do you think? That he will not come to the feast?"

Reflection:
Our salvation is found in the power of the Cross. Jesus teaches us to embrace our own crosses in life; a cross we sometimes don’t expect and wham our whole life is changed forever. Caiaphas just wanted Jesus dead, thinking by killing Him everything would die with Him. Wow, did they miscalculate that.

Jesus did die for us, He took on every single sin, every single burden, including a humiliating painful death; and He took it from us, so that through Him we might attain eternal life. My friends, Jesus Christ LOVES us so much. The power that is in that cross is beyond the power of anything, and everyone in this entire world. Almighty God has placed His Only Son on a cross to save us, why would anybody do that? It's because He loves us so much. God who is love, who is life, who creates life, who has made male and female in His own image; took His Only Son and had Him beaten almost to death, then humiliated and spit upon, to save all of us from our death, so that we can be with Him for all eternity. It is through Jesus' death on that cross that we can enter the Kingdom of Heaven. We must do all we can in this life to make sure to the best of our ability, that we indeed spend eternity with Him. A huge price has been paid for our salvation. A man, a man of God was put in our place, to die for us.

My Prayer
Dear Lord, I must die to my old self, I must never return to that old wretched miserable, sinful person, I once was. I must turn away and never return back to my sin. Jesus you alone, no one else must remain my only central focus, nothing can or should ever come before you. We all know that life doesn't always make sense. Each day we experience, pain, suffering, joy, loneliness, happiness and no understanding as to why in some cases. Then we look around and we see You Lord and it all makes sense. We must look at You Jesus first, then everything else makes sense. There is so much power in the cross, in Your Cross, my cross. Don't be afraid to embrace your cross. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.

The Plot to Kill Jesus

Pondering these thoughts today: Think about this from St. Augustine: "The crucifixion is something that must continue throughout our life, not for forty days only, although Moses, Elijah, and Christ fasted forty days. We are meant to learn from them not to cling to this present world or imitate what it says, but to nail our unregenerate selves to the cross."

Many Believed In Him

BEADS OF JOY 03-23-18
“Many Believed In Him”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 10:31-42 (Feast of The Dedication)
“The Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of these do you stone me?" The Jews answered him, "It is not for a good work that we stone you but for blasphemy; because you, being a man, make yourself God." Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, `I said, you are gods'? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came (and Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, `You are blaspheming,' because I said, `I am the Son of God'? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father." Again, they tried to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John at first baptized, and there he remained. And many came to him; and they said, "John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true." And many believed in him there.”

Reflection:
Flashback Blog March 2010
JOY first of all is a blessing and without a doubt a gift from God. I always keep talking about this JOY; I guess it's because I want so much for all of you to really have this JOY alive inside of your own hearts and lives, like it is in mine. I get so excited and so thrilled so much with all the JOY I have inside me, that I shake my legs at times and many think I have these crazy nervous conditions. LOL. But please know, that I know they are not nerves, but the overwhelming excitement that is bottled up inside me. That's why I get goofy at times, just ask my kids, they say, "dad you are strange, you're always goofy happy". They see me act like a kid so much of the time. It's all because I have this very deep-rooted relationship with God our Father and His Son and Our Blessed Mother; and knowing who they are in my life and that one day I will be with them, thrills me to death right now. This life is but a tiny spec of time in the full scope of time when you place eternity into the equation. This is nothing, all we must do is stay true to God, share Him with everybody, bring as many as we possibly can to know Him, and be loyal to Him and in turn we shall spend all eternity with Him. How can you not get excited about that?

That was a powerful first paragraph, I wrote that straight off the cuff, no notes, just a sincere desire to share with you, the JOY I have inside my heart, my life and my soul. I had notes laid out for today's blog, I couldn't even follow them, I am letting the spirit lead right now. When I say that JOY is endlessly overflowing I really mean that. JOY is like an infinite eternity of Happiness all jammed up in the word JOY. Wow, I have no idea what I just typed, hope that made sense. LOL. I promise today that you will have a much clearer sense of what is going on inside my heart and soul and why I am overflowing with this JOY so much.

You see my "weirdness" is just so HAPPY and so JOYFUL, that the world doesn’t recognize it. So, it interprets it as strange (at times), but real true excitement that can't be contained, that can't be held down; that can't be kept to oneself ends up making the person so filled with this JOY seem weird. I personally don't care if I am not understood. But don't prejudge me till you at least, for truths sake, know what's the deal with me. LOL. Back in 1983 my entire world changed when Jesus became the reason for my living. There is no other reason to me that is so exciting. He is the only center, He is the reason for why we are here, I would joyfully die defending Him. JOY when it is pressed down and transformed by the spirit, it makes your spirit so alive that you can't help but be a happy go lucky crazy person. I find that I will be bold in my words, not rude or mean. But I will not be intimidated by anyone seeking to belittle my faith. When I do meet those, who are worldly and never intend to love Jesus, my heart is saddened. I don't argue, I listen, and I make clear statements about who Jesus is to me, and I pray for them.

Endlessly Overflowing!! How is that even possible? Think of Jesus saying this to you (obviously I am not quoting Jesus), "I have something for you, that I want you to keep in your heart, if you'd be willing to embrace me into your life.", and we in turn say, "Absolutely Lord, I am willing." And then Jesus turns and gives us the entire universe filled with His love, and He says, "Take all of this and keep it close to your heart, I will be with you always." And we look at it in amazement and say, "Lord, it is so tremendous, so much, however could I possibly embrace, hold and take all of your love into my life?" And He says, "By accepting me into your life all this will be in your heart at all times, and all my love, and all my mercy, and all my joy and happiness will overflow from you, and when it does it will be a direct reflection of me." Now are you beginning to better understand the JOY that is jam packed up inside of me. How in the world am I supposed to contain this? LOL

Get ready to sing. I sing this to the top of my lungs.
Lyrics are on the screen.

 (a favorite of mine)

Pondering these thoughts today: Try being so excited, so thrilled, so ecstatic about Jesus, that your heart can longer contain all of it. So, you then express it by telling others about Jesus. It is possible, just keep thinking about Him.

Keep His Word

BEADS OF JOY 03-22-18
“Keep His Word”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 8:51-59 (Jesus and Abraham)
“Truly, truly, I say to you, if any one keeps my word, he will never see death." The Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, `If any one keeps my word, he will never taste death.' Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you claim to be?" Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is your God. But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I should be a liar like you; but I do know him, and I keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day; he saw it and was glad." The Jews then said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." So, they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.”

Reflection:
I really don’t like starting a reflection out with a serious question, but: Have you devoted your life to Jesus Christ, like your life depended upon it? This is something you might want to think about. Because the reality is, we don’t know when that day will come, scripture says, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” ~Matthew 24:36. It was this very scripture decades ago, that led me, to begin saying, Jesus Christ 24/7/365. What I mean by that is, I truly believe we must have Jesus in our thoughts and our actions every single second of our lives. The original complete saying was, Our Lord, Our Lady and The Rosary 24/7/365. That’s my combination, so now you know what’s going on in my heart and soul.

"For you Christ allowed Himself to be crucified, to teach you humility. He was alive, and you were dead. He died that you might live. God vanquished death so that death might not overcome human beings." ~St. Augustine

Consider this, as you plan to focus, more on Jesus in your life, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” ~Matt. 6:19-21

What are those treasures? Mass, Confession, Adoration, Bible study and reading your bible, prayer, fellowship, evangelizing. Everything and anything in your life that is all about Jesus.

 Before Abraham was, I AM

Pondering these thoughts today:
Today I offer a challenge, one that I think you might enjoy. Grab your bible. Now get 5 pieces of paper and fold them in half. On the top vertically write on each one separately: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts. Ok, now, write the following next to those books: Matthew – Monday / Mark – Tuesday / Luke – Wednesday / John – Thursday / Acts – Friday. Now put them in your Bible on the first page of all those books. This is what you do: Monday through Friday take 15 minutes a day, pick out something to read in that book that day and write the verses on the paper. Now I hope this made sense. But don’t stop after today, do this for the rest of your lives. Get to really know and love the Gospels and Act. Enjoy. Any questions just ask: jimdaceyjunior@yahoo.com

You Will Be Made Free

BEADS OF JOY 03-21-18
“You Will Be Made Free”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 8:31-42 (Jesus and Abraham)
“Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." They answered him, "We are descendants of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How is it that you say, `You will be made free'?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not continue in the house for ever; the son continues for ever. So, if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are descendants of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father." They answered him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did, but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God; this is not what Abraham did. You do what your father did." They said to him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God." Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.”

Reflection:
The video really brings today’s gospel to life. Jesus plainly tells them who they are who He is, yet they still don’t seem to not understand. To this day, many people don’t seem to understand our faith. For over 2,000 years with over a billion followers, I would think by now, we would be somewhat understood. But, there is a need for more people like ourselves to get out there; and spread the word and continue to spread the word so that more and more people come to Jesus.

We must live this life just like Jesus did, and boldly go forward sharing the truth and the Word of God to the whole world. See someone reading this is saying to themselves, I thought he was going to say “boldly go where no man has gone before” I don’t think I can directly quote Star Trek like that, without permission or at least saying that that’s a quote from Star Trek. LOL. Anyhow, I am very light hearted, and I don’t believe in preaching. Don’t get me wrong I like to talk a lot and I do, ask anyone who has talked to me, you will be exhausted. LOL I can keep you on the phone, or in person for hours, and when we are done... lol, you are so glad to goodbye. And plus, I enjoy slipping in some humor. If you can walk away from something I wrote and maybe even learn something or feel moved about something and you are smiling, then I did my job.

Jesus’ courage and determination are outstanding, now don’t think, “Well sure, He can call a legion of angels to protect Himself anytime He wants.” Let us not forget that Jesus was beaten, poked, hit and was bleeding profusely. I think to some degree; The Passion of The Christ movie is probably closest, with the way they showed what the scourging at the pillar really was. And then, even worse, Jesus was crucified and killed. So, we can’t say He was bold, because He had these amazing body guards, ah, no! He was doing the Will God the Father. Just like we should be doing. Boldly! If I die because I am sharing Jesus, so be it! My first job here in this life, as God’s child, is to spread His Love and His Word to all. What is my next position when I leave? I don’t know, but if it be pleasing to His Will then I know I will love it.

Dispute Over Whose Children Jesus' Opponents Are

Pondering these thoughts today:
Something for us to think about, and to incorporate into our lives, “"Do you know who the upright of heart are? They are those who wish what God wishes. Therefore, do not try to twist God's will to you own but correct your will to that of God. The will of God is a rule of conduct. By it you have the means of being converted and of correcting your evil ways." ~St Augustine of Hippo

BEADS OF JOY 03-20-18
“Know That I Am He”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Fatima Shrine; Lewiston, NY - we used to live 6 miles from the shrine.
http://www.fatimashrine.com/index1.html

Today’s Gospel:
John 8:21-30 (Jesus, the Father’s Ambassador)
“Again, he said to them, "I go away, and you will seek me and die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come." Then said the Jews, "Will he kill himself, since he says, `Where I am going, you cannot come'?" He said to them, "You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he." They said to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Even what I have told you from the beginning. I have much to say about you and much to judge; but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him." They did not understand that he spoke to them of the Father. So, Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority but speak thus as the Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him." As he spoke thus, many believed in him.”

Reflection:
Are you really following Jesus? What direction are you going in? This life is short, eternity is long, no, I mean really… really… really… really long, like till the end of time. It’s like infinity times a gazillion billion infinites, all that times infinity. That is why we must believe with all our hearts and live a life that reflects that. So, we need to keep that thought in front of us, as we journey through life. The snares of this world have brought down many people. Stay alert and pray every day and read scripture as often as you can. Go to Mass as often as you possibly can and go to confession at least monthly. I care a great deal about all of you. The end of our lives usually comes without warning, we must be alert and ready.

What is the perfect life? This is my utopian explanation of how I would love for it to be. My Bible, my rosary, a simple room and a chapel. In-fact here is a quote, "I have my room, some books and a nearby chapel. That is complete happiness." ~St. Miguel of Ecuador, I quoted this on Dynamic Catholic yesterday. Actually, after that quote I had so much fun sharing that, I added, “...I confess I'll also want my laptop and my cell phone, that's all. ...well maybe a fully stocked refrigerator with a couple trays of lasagna in it. ...oh, and a microwave. ...Wow this is harder than I thought... LOL” Basically what I am getting at, is that it is impossible for the average person to have that perfect environment, to have an incredible devout spiritual life, at least in the way I just described it.

So, what do we do Jim? I heard that from the back row, was that Mary, Karen, Eva, Priscilla, Chuck, Tom, I know it was one of you. LOL! I’ll tell you a secret, but you must promise, that you will share it with everyone. You can do all those things I just spoke of, on your own and you can help encourage those around you to do the same. Yep, that was the secret. We are all here to help each other make it to Heaven. When Chrissy was ill I always talked to Fr. Paul a lot, he was our priest till he had a couple of strokes (he is retired now), he also did Chrissy’s funeral. He used to be at our home a lot, when Christine was sick; for communion, prayers, socially hangout, etc. My biggest talk with him was private, about, “How can I make sure Chrissy is going to Heaven?” Father would smile and hug me, “Jim, don’t worry about if Chrissy is going to Heaven, she most certainly is. She has suffered tremendously for so long (6 yrs.), never complaining and always accepting the Will of God through all of this.” He also added that we can’t save anyone, it is totally up to the individual. So, let us keep that in mind.

Jesus Declare He Is The LIGHT Of The World

Joseph, Son of David

BEADS OF JOY 03-19-18
“Joseph, Son of David”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

This picture to me represents Fatherhood, Motherhood,
Parenting and Family.....and LOVE.

Today’s Gospel: Matthew 1:16,18-21,24 (Birth of Jesus)
“Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary  your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took his wife”

Reflection:
We know Joseph was a carpenter, we know he was good and upright man; we know he was Mary's husband, and Jesus' foster father. What other possible things could we learn by the role Joseph played in Jesus' life; and the example he has set before all us, as a good husband and father and an obedient man of God. Yes, Joseph is a descendant of David; he has a most impressive genealogical trace back to David the King. I'm not going to list the entire genealogy that can be found in Matthew's first chapter, but the end highlight states, "and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ." Matthew 1:16. Joseph always listened to whatever direction God sent Him, without questioning what he was told. Jesus and Mary's safety were Joseph's first greatest concern and whenever the angel of the Lord warned him he didn't hesitate to listen. "When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife." Matthew 1:24.

Joseph lived a life, true to the obedience of God. Today we celebrate the one man who not only was directed and guided by God himself to protect and take care of God's chosen one; but who also stood strong closest to them without ever being concerned about himself. His own pride and even respect held no concern to himself; first and foremost, he only protected those two blessed chosen ones of God. Let's look at scripture and see how loyal Joseph most definitely was. "When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." Matthew 2:13. Joseph lived a life that was so connected to God, that we can learn so much from his example. He and our Blessed Mother were two of God's most trusted and obedient children. Jesus was so perfectly placed in the hearts and lives of two of God's wonderfully loving people.

The example they have given us as parents is unmatched. For their parental ways were so blessed because of their obedience to Almighty God. I can see how we can learn so much from them. Today let's look at Joseph's role in this most blessed Holy Family. I know we only learn and read about Joseph briefly in scripture, but I think there was a reason for that. God placed Joseph in Jesus' path to keep Him safe during His most vulnerable defenseless years of His life. I know both moms and dads read this blog; but today's celebration is about a Godly man, a loving foster dad, and a most devout husband. I feel both moms and dads can gain much comfort and wisdom from all this. A good dad and a devout husband who has devoted his life and love to be obedient to God; is someone every man should desire to be, and every woman should desire to marry. God's holy and most blessed family show us how simplicity and love are valued tremendously in the success of a God-loving family.

As guardian of the holy family, we can see him as the protector of the church. His bold, selfless life encourages me personally as I hope it does for you. Nothing about Joseph was indeed about Joseph; it was all about Jesus and Mary. What an exciting, thrilling, overflowing joyful way to live one’s life. We need to do the same, centering our thoughts, first and foremost on Him. Jesus' love and concern need to be our first focus, followed by loving and adoring His most precious mother. Here is a quote that truly sums it all up for us about Joseph, "He was chosen by the eternal Father as the trust worthy guardian and protector of his greatest treasures, namely, his divine Son and Mary, Joseph's wife. He carried out this vocation with complete fidelity until at last God called him, saying, "Good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord." this came from a sermon by Saint Bernardine of Siena.

Pondering these thoughts today:
Let us look at Joseph in a new light. His priorities should be ours. As our Blessed Mother is such an example of saying Yes to God and being obedient to Him, so Joseph does the same. Today let us ponder thoughts and prayers of love for dads we know and love in our life.

My Friends,

My church (St. Vincent de Paul - Dingmans, PA)

Today’s Gospel: John 12:20-33 (The Coming of Jesus’ Hour)
“Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew went with Philip and they told Jesus. And Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If any one serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me, the Father will honor him. "Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? `Father, save me from this hour'? No, for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify thy name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again." The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him." Jesus answered, "This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out; and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." He said this to show by what death he was to die.”

Reflection:
No doubt Jesus is speaking of His own death and rebirth when He is speaking of the grain of wheat that dies. But look at verse 25, that is hardcore faith out of the mouth of Jesus. “Selfishness” will ultimately destroy you, after all that is what loving your life is all about. When we focus so much on what we want; on what we desire, what we need, what we like, what we have accomplished, isn’t that selfishness? We are all guilty of that, myself included. We must do all we can to constantly keep ourselves in check and be humble and do all we can to get back on course and stay focused on Jesus. Prayer and confession do that. Including Eucharistic Adoration would be a great idea also.

If we deny ourselves and live our lives for Jesus we will have eternal life with Him. What can this life offer to us that would even come close? That was rhetorical by the way. The answer is: Nothing! Yes, we can go ahead and say, “Who cares I love this life of mine. I love my big beautiful expensive home, I love having a couple expensive cars in my driveway and my ability to travel worldwide whenever I feel like it; I simply love it. It’s all about me! I deserve it, I earned it!” Yes, anyone can say that, who has it. And I will say to some degree you are correct. But, to be fair, Jesus died so that you may have life. So, without that life and His blessing you would have nothing. So technically it’s because of Him, that you have all these blessings and those things in your life.

Now I am not against success. Absolutely NOT! I am a businessman and an entrepreneur. But there needs to be a balance of reality in any success. Anyone who is that successful should be reaching out to those who suffer. God has blessed them for that reason. Do you not see that? How many friends and family members do you know out there who are struggling or dealing with hunger issues? How many friends and family members do you know out there who have life threatening illnesses and stare death in the face daily? And I can go on and on. Or do you even care, or do you even know? You / We need to think about this very seriously and say to ourselves, “What can I do to make their lives easier?” “How can I share the blessing I have been blessed with to make their burden lighter?” If we all can live a life that is humble and not selfish but giving and loving towards others; the world we live in, would be so much better.

Pondering these thoughts today:
-How will today’s gospel affect your life?
-Are you ready to give your life to Jesus?
-How is your daily prayer life going?
(If you haven’t fully surrendered your life to
Jesus, simply ask Him and He will embrace you.)

Hearing and Learning

BEADS OF JOY 03-17-18
“Hearing and Learning”

My Friends,

This is at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine - Washington, NJ

Today’s Gospel: John 7:40-53 (Origins of The Messiah)
“When they heard these words, some of the people said, "This is really the prophet." Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ is descended from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?" So, there was a division among the people over him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. The officers then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why did you not bring him?" The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!" The Pharisees answered them, "Are you led astray, you also? Have any of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd, who do not know the law, are accursed." Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, "Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?" They replied, "Are you from Galilee too? Search and you will see that no prophet is to rise from Galilee." They went each to his own house.”

Reflection:
Who do you choose to defend? Who do you choose to serve? Even Nicodemus stood in defense of Jesus. If we are to truly following Jesus, we must be bold enough to embrace our cross. Read Mark 8:34-36, Jesus himself speaks very plainly to us: “He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?” There is no place for selfishness, or to cowardly not defend Jesus or even God’s word.

Please don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying to do anything mean or harmful to anyone. All I am saying is defend Him! Hold that cross of humility when you stand for Him. If someone were to say something horribly mean and/or incorrect in accusation about your parents or your spouse or your children or your friends; wouldn’t you defend them and protect their name? Today’s gospel is all about who is standing with Jesus while they wrongfully discuss his origin of where He is from. They really wanted to arrest him.

Today’s gospel begins to help us be bold in our faith. Jesus in Mark’s Gospel warns us as to what will come. Some will experience the extreme and some won’t. But know this worldwide many are suffering because they are being bold, because of the name of Jesus. Look at this scripture, Mark 13:9-13: “As for yourselves, beware; for they will hand you over to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them.  And the good news must first be proclaimed to all nations.  When they bring you to trial and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say; but say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

Division Over Who Jesus Is

Pondering these thoughts today:
-Does anyone oppose you about your faith?
-If they do, do you have faith and courage?
-Have you ever stood up for Jesus, ever?
-Do you wear any jewelry identifying you with Jesus?
Challenge: (Wear your faith out on your sleeve,
meaning a cross or pin… Something!)
Please use common sense.
If it is seriously very dangerous -Don’t.
