At An Unexpected Hour

BEADS OF JOY 10-19-16
“At An Unexpected Hour”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:39-48 (At An Unexpected Hour)
“ But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an unexpected hour." Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?" And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, `My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master's will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.”

Reflection:
Doesn’t satan come like a thief in the night, to do all he can to steal our soul and rob us of everything; including our faith and do all he can, to draw us away from God? He works hand and hand with society in this world, a society that is opposed to God, to do all they can to make us believe that there is no God. We must do all we can to keep our lives focused on God and not fall victim to the flesh and worldly treasures that draw us away from what really matters. Yes, we will fall and yes we will stumble; but we must do all we can to get back up, ask for forgiveness and more forward. God is a merciful and loving God and He only wants what’s best for us; sometimes it takes all we got to be strong in the temptations that surround us. Keep the faith my sisters and brothers.

Be watchful! Yes, at an unexpected hour Jesus will come for us. We must be ready at all times. Do not be unprepared or caught unaware of His return. Plan and prepare as if that very day and hour was to be today. Plan and pray each day, not in fear or worry, but in joy and praise that His return will bring much happiness for all. Do not live a life that is unpleasing to Him. Keep your soul clean and your heart open to His Word. Read His Word every single day, pray the rosary or any such devotion every single day, go to Mass as often as you possibly can for one day it may be impossible, go to adoration every chance you get, go to confession often to cleanse your soul. I don’t speak these things in fear or worry. I speak these things, because this is what really matters in this life; this should be on your “to do list” this should be your life’s joy’s and thrills, this is what you should be spending your time doing each day, week, month, year.

If you have been given much, much will be expected; those aren’t my words or my ideas, Jesus said that. Here read it for yourself, “Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.” So I would expect everyone out there who has been blessed with much, you will be expected to help those in need (the poor, the needy). I’m sure you have neighbors and friends and family members who could really use help. If you wish to be anonymous, then be anonymous, just help, God will know your heart. The treasure that matters the most is the treasure that God Himself has given us. What is that you ask? It’s the gift of the Holy Spirit that works through us. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that we have faith, hope and love and God’s grace and so many other wonderful gifts that empower our faith. It is the Holy Spirit that helps guide us to Jesus, when we open our lives to be faithful to the Lord. My prayers continue for all of you. Talk to you tomorrow.

St. Luke, Evangelist

BEADS OF JOY 10-18-16
“St. Luke, Evangelist”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today is the Feast Day of St Luke, Evangelist
Luke is the author of both The Gospel of Luke and The Acts of The Apostles. In today’s blog I have 3 videos. The first video is a mini-biography, the second is the complete Gospel of Luke movie, I think you will enjoy that and the third is my absolute favorite The Acts of The Apostles (The Life of The Apostle Paul). If you don’t have the time to watch them now, come back at another time, as often as you wish and watch them. I have watched both the Gospel and Acts multiple times; I can’t get enough of them. They are both inspiring, scriptural and very educational in my own spiritual journey, as I hope they will be in yours.

Reflection:
Just as Luke himself writes as he begins writing The Gospel According to Luke:

“Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down  to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to rite an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught." ~Luke 1:1-4

So too Luke writes as he begins writing The Acts of The Apostles:

“In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.” ~Acts 1:1-3

Beware of All Covetousness

BEADS OF JOY 10-17-16
“Beware of All Covetousness”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:Luke 12:13-21 (Beware of All Covetousness)
“One of the multitude said to him, "Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?" And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, `What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, `I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, `Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

Reflection:
Yes, this is The Parable of The Rich Fool. Have you ever been involved in the settlement of an estate, a will where money had to be divided? Or the sale of a home or real estate where the sale had to be divided? Well, that is where covetousness unfortunately begins for many. Many of us know too well what it means to be on the losing end of that. But Thank God, those of us who are, know that our investment in the things of Heaven far exceed the greed of this world. Yes, it hurts to be burned and screwed but so be it. We must move forward and forgive and know that like Mary; even though Martha worked diligently Mary possessed the greater. We reflected upon that in an earlier gospel. Though not the same type of reflection, the basic idea is there. The closer we are to Jesus, the better.

In this parable today, Jesus wants us to look through the depths of our heart and see where our treasures really are. What do you treasure the most? What means more to you than anything on the face of the earth? I’m not talking about people, this about possessions, stuff, things, what is your heart focused on and longing for and desiring so much attention these days? Is it that new car? Maybe a new home? Did your financial assets exceed the 3-million-dollar mark yet? It is not evil to want such wealth and success; it is only sad to waste your life and miss the mark when it comes to preparing for what really matters. You see in today’s parable the rich fool missed the opportunity in his abundance to share with others! He selfishly was so concerned with no one else but himself. His concern for others did not exist at all. That is the saddest part of this story. How many people, families, homeless wonderers could he have fed or gave shelter to with his abundance? Instead he hoarded his wealth and his death was in vain. What a sad unfortunate waste. His legacy was a legacy of pride and selfishness.

If we hoard and covet and protect and keep everything selfishly for ourselves and share nothing with anyone else; what good are all the blessings we receive. God has blessed us for a reason, so that we might share those blessings. It’s so obvious how wonderful God has made all things come together. While some people are so gifted in gardening and farming and they are able to grow crops in abundance; he also blesses others with the gift of investment so that they know how to invest to increase their finances. If the two work together in harmony; both will eat good and live comfortably. All that we own and possess is God’s even that which we gain in profit and crop. The profit and crop are the blessings of God’s hand in our lives. What we do with them is a direct reflection of who we really are. Let us always consider others when we have been blessed; sharing what we have with those in need and doing all we can to be charitable with a loving, giving heart. Just a suggestion, to make the world we live in a better, more harmonious place for all. God Bless you, talk to you tomorrow.

The Persistent Widow

BEADS OF JOY 10-16-16
“The Persistent Widow”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 18:1-8 (The Persistent Widow)
“And he told them a parable, to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man; and there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, `Vindicate me against my adversary.' For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, `Though I neither fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will vindicate her, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.'" And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God vindicate his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will vindicate them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

Reflection:
Do you keep praying even when you are being beaten by trials and sufferings that are horrifying in your life? Do you keep praying even when the doctors say, “There is no hope, the illness is terminal, she will die!”? Do you keep praying when homelessness is looking you dead in the face and you secretly cry tears no one wants to hear about and many don’t even care about? When do you STOP praying? I hope your answer is NEVER! If there is one thing the persistent widow has taught us in Jesus' parable today it’s this; never give up, never lose heart, never lose hope, keep forging forward. Trust fully in Jesus!

Anyone who has been beaten and is suffering of cause, can give up and yes they can give a list of reasons why they rightly did so. But why? I would rather die before I ever gave up my faith and hope in making it through any tough and/or horrible situation. And if death is my option over throwing away my faith; how bad can it get? So instead I say keep the faith in any and all situations and forge forward bold and strong in your faith. We don’t always know what God’s Will is in our lives or why things happen; but 10 times out of 10, things happen for a reason. All we must do is have the faith that somehow, someway, Almighty God will see us through. And through it and in it and tumbling all around it; we must find a way to give Him thanks and praise to Him. I know that last sentence is impossible for many, but please understand I have been there, in the fire, in the hell of the storm. I don’t understand it either, but in that thanksgiving you find peace.

Trusting Jesus takes faith my sisters and brothers. But I know you can have the faith it takes to be strong in the toughest of times. And when you pray be persistent, not annoying, just keep praying and praying and praying. Here is my own life’s example: I pray every single day for Chrissy’s healing, every single day since May of 2010. Most Stage 4 lung cancer patients die within the first 2 years. She almost died twice the first 2 months, but she is still here. The average person with Stage 4 lung cancer that lives past 2 years only lives an estimated 5-6 years. Well here we are at 6 years, 5 months and she is still here. She still has many challenges! My prayers are unceasing and persistent. I don’t scream and yell and cry like I did the first year of prayer, I am calmer now. Jesus knew how I felt back then, but my prayers never ever stopped and I thank Him every single day for the challenges, the pain, the suffering and whatever healing He has given her to live this long. Wow that was a lot to share with all of you. Talk with you tomorrow.

Here I Am Lord

BEADS OF JOY 10-15-16
“Here I Am Lord”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:8-12 (Here I Am Lord)
“And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of man also will acknowledge before the angels of God; but he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious how or what you are to answer or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

Reflection:
Do you securely place your hope in Jesus Christ? Today I chose a title and a song that is more or less something we must and should do; give ourselves fully to Jesus. When we give of ourselves willingly and openly to our Lord; we allow Him to direct His Will in our lives in a way that we don’t resist. I know sometimes we don’t always understand God’s Will and we fear giving ourselves like this; but if we only trust in Him with all our hearts, He will only bless our lives in ways that will bring such joy to our lives.

We must have faith, in what Jesus says today, “for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” That by the power of the Holy Spirit we will be led and guided not only to do His Will; but to get through the challenges of this life. God’s mercy and love comes to us without measure or limits; all we must do is embrace His love and turn away from our sins. Do not let pride or stubbornness separate you from God’s grace. Simply allow the power of the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with God’s love and mercy; your life will never be the same and your love for Him will only get deepen and stronger.

Let us keep in mind that is by the power of the Holy Spirit, we have become sons and daughters of Almighty God. The Holy Spirit has been freely given to us through our open acknowledgment that Jesus Christ is Lord. Let us remember that the Holy Spirit is here to help guide us and show us the way to Jesus our Lord. When we get brave and bold in our faith and we stand up for what we believe; you know that is the Holy Spirit at work in you? The Holy Spirit empowers us to be strong witnesses, not even the threat of death will stop us from speaking the truth. Jesus died so that we may live and spend eternity with Him and the Father in Heaven. We must be strong and confident in the same; knowing that it is the power of the Holy Spirit, that you will find strength and peace at the moment. Trust in the Lord and you will find peace and answers always. See you all tomorrow.

Here I Am Lord ... John Michael Talbot

Nothing Is Covered Up

BEADS OF JOY 10-14-16
“Nothing Is Covered Up”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:1-7 (Nothing Is Covered Up)
“In the meantime, when so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they trod upon one another, he began to say to his disciples first, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. "I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Reflection:
Who are the “hypocrites” of our time? No, I am not answering that. LOL. You all know who they are. Hypocrites lie and pretend and make believe they are in agreement with one thing; while telling someone else they are in agreement with something completely opposite, hypocrites are both men and women. It is a hypocrite who thrives on the chance to change their masks whenever they please, thinking how wonderfully skillful and incredibly ingenious they are. Hypocrites tend to be insincere and very phony. Most people can spot a hypocrite when they speak, most know the double life they are living; we must pray for them and even more for those we can’t spot so easily, for they deceive and mislead many.

The Pharisees misled many, they thought they were so close to God and so perfect in His sight; yet they mislead and mistreated many. Our faith demands an honest upright life. We must be who we say we are. We must be who we portray ourselves to be. Many rely on our hearts to be close to our Lord; as we help them on their journey to Jesus. Honesty is always the best policy in all cases. There is no acceptable reason to lie to or mislead anyone. Jesus says, “whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.” This is far worse than having someone spy on you with a secret video or microphone. All our secrets -all our lies -all our cruel mean words, plans, ideas, destructive intentions that have destroyed others will be on display for all to see one day. Everyone will know, we will not be able to deny the hypocrite we have become.

But fear not my sisters and brothers there is a way to cleanse your Spirit and keep your life pure in God’s sight. First of all, live a healthy God Fearing life. Fearing God does not mean you are afraid of Him; it simply means respect and reverence for God. It is a healthy fear, wanting to do good in God’s eye. You can easily find it throughout scripture, here is one verse that says a lot. “
Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.” ~2 Corinthians 5:11

Here is another my sisters and brothers: Go to Confession often and be humble and with an open heart; is truly one of the best ways to keep your Spirit clean before the Lord. Don’t hold anything back, open up and let it all out; make sure you prepare yourself well, before you go to confession and make sure you are sincere with your intentions. “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” ~James 5:16 Jesus knows our hearts, He knows the intentions of our hearts, the real reason why we are asking for forgiveness for our sins. Be sincere and Jesus will forgive you. Go often and your Spirit and your life will constantly be cleansed clean in His sight. Love you guys always, talk to again tomorrow.

The Judgement

BEADS OF JOY 10-13-16
“The Judgement”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 11:47-54 (The Judgement)
“Woe to you! for you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. So you are witnesses and consent to the deeds of your fathers; for they killed them, and you build their tombs. Therefore, also the Wisdom of God said, `I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,' that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation. Woe to you lawyers! for you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering." As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things, lying in wait for him, to catch at something he might say.”

Reflection:
Pride and envy was the absolute destruction of these Pharisees. Through their own destruction of the old and their own interpretation of what they wanted to say; they destroyed and distorted scripture to the point of making it almost pointless. Let me be clear, when I say that, I am referring to the fact that they shut off the signs and prophecy that would have led many to Heaven. The Old Testament revealed much prophecy about Jesus alone, that if only they would have shared it in the way it was written. The Pharisees missed the mark and focused completely on themselves.

It is only the humble at heart, the one who sincerely has a thirst for Jesus and shares Jesus with knowledge not taught by men but by the Holy Spirit that is pure. We must hunger His Word to point of never being satisfied. When we have finished one reading or study; we must desire and plan and prepare for the next. There should be butterflies in our stomach so excited, so thrilled at the thought of simply reading scripture, that they do summer salts over and over again, just thinking about opening our bible. I just look at my bible and I get a chill of excitement flow through my body; it’s just knowing that I possess the very WORD of GOD in my life that really excites me!

My sisters and brothers go and grab your Bible. Ok, you got it? Are you holding it tight? Hold it close to your heart with a warm embrace (yes hug your bible)! How does that feel? You just hugged God’s Word and gave His Word a good warm hug! Seriously think about what you are holding. Ok, you possess our entire faith, everything we love, everyone in scripture, all the saints read and loved the very same book, there are thousands of years of history that brought you to where you are today with your love for Jesus in that book. All because of your Bible, yes, your Bible. Your relationship with Jesus developed and was groomed by the Words from that book. Jesus’ very words are in that book. God’s very Words are in that book. Do you see what I mean? Embrace and love and hold that book closely and make that Bible the one book you always have with you, no matter where you go. I pray with all my heart, that your life becomes incredibly exciting now that you have a whole new way of looking at your Bible. See you all tomorrow.

Woe To You Pharisees!

BEADS OF JOY 10-12-16
“Woe To You Pharisees!”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 11:42-46 (Woe To You Pharisees!)
“But woe to you Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Woe to you Pharisees! for you love the best seat in the synagogues and salutations in the market places. Woe to you! for you are like graves which are not seen, and men walk over them without knowing it." One of the lawyers answered him, "Teacher, in saying this you reproach us also." And he said, "Woe to you lawyers also! for you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.”

Reflection:
Yes the word “Woe” is our Lord’s anger towards the Pharisees, but even more than that it is His sorrowful pity towards them. The Pharisees and the Scribes devoted their lives to the Law of Moses; yet in all their years of study and devotion it only resulted in countless thousands of tiny little rules that equaled fifty volumes of what you can and can’t do. How sad! All they were inevitably were doing was leading the people to Pharisaism not to God. The lesson I see here, is that Jesus is stressing God’s love; not the burdens the Pharisees were putting the people.

To me the whole point of having our Lord in your life; it’s to help lighten the load of stress and burden and suffering in your life. Right? When you know of someone suffering or having to deal some challenge that is overwhelming to themselves or their family, do you help them? Or do you further burden them with speeches of “well if you would have only done this or that you wouldn’t be in this situation...” only adding more burden to their lives? Jesus teaches us to love, not to judge. If we are to be true followers of Jesus and we want to be like Him; then we must love and care and do whatever we can to help lighten someone’s load when they are suffering.

Our hearts must be open to others at all times. There is no point in our faith, if we seclude ourselves from the suffering and pain of those around us. Jesus did not hide or cover His ears when someone He knew or even a stranger cried out in pain asking for help. We to must not add burden to them by ignoring them. The Pharisees and the Scribes for whatever reason only added burden to the people, making life more and more difficult; putting themselves above everyone. No man is greater than God, we are all God’s children and we must all work together to help one another get to Heaven together.

“That is why I believe God has made us “family” so that we will all work together; even if we don’t know one another, we are all still siblings, we are all of the same family, the same blood.” ~me

Get it! That’s how I see it. So let’s work together, helping one another, praying for one another, tending to one another, doing all we can to lighten one another’s load. For love of one another! For true fellowship! For our family bond! For our love for God! For the goal to be in Heaven together! Always a pleasure sharing with all of you. Till tomorrow. Love & Peace always…

The Pharisees Foolishness

BEADS OF JOY 10-11-16
“The Pharisees Foolishness”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 11:37-41 (The Pharisees Foolishness)
“While he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in and sat at table. The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. And the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness. You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? But give for alms those things which are within; and behold, everything is clean for you.”

Reflection:
Where is it more important to be clean outside or inside our bodies? Yes, while the outside is very important, the inside by what it represents, is even more important. Inside of us we all have a mind and a heart and a soul; if that is filthy and dirty and unclean, is it not that more offensive than unclean hands? Jesus was teaching the Pharisees a lesson, possibly deliberate in its intention; but very helpful to all who can learn by reading the scriptures. There is such evil that comes from an unclean heart, such as greed, pride, bitterness, envy and even arrogance.

Jesus asks of us to give alms from “those things which are within”; if we keep our insides clean and pure and focused on God we will have love and mercy and compassion. Our hearts will be filled with so much love that we will always put others first and we will have a sincere willingness to help others. We must allow Almighty God to transform us, cleanse us and guide us to keep our mind and our hearts and our spirit clean.

What is the best method to this cleanliness? Daily prayer! Mass often! Confession often! Adoration! Bible study! Fellowship! There is so much, but you get the general idea. Some enjoy prayer more than bible study, while others enjoy adoration more than the rosary. We all have preferences in devotion, that’s fine, the point is that we spend time with Jesus, Mary and Prayer in some form each day. The more “good” we put in the cleaner and purer our mind and our heart and our spirit will be. If you fill a cup with garbage, you can only pour out of it garbage. But if you fill it with pure clean water, you will pour out, pure clean water. The answer is simple, more time with Jesus every single day, His influence and His friendship will make you a much better, cleaner person, inside and out. I am always praying for all of you. Talk to you tomorrow.

Demand For A Sign

BEADS OF JOY 10-10-16
“Demand For A Sign”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 11:29-32 (Demand For A Sign)
“When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, "This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the men of Nineveh, so will the Son of man be to this generation. The queen of the South will arise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.”

Reflection:
Why does this foolish generation demand a sign of who Jesus is? Jesus and the Holy Spirit has given us sign after sign after sign, that He is the Christ! The One who was foretold in the Old Testament, countless times. The One Gabriel the Angel spoke to Mary about. The One the three wise men followed the star to see. The One John The Baptist foretold. The One Simeon told Mary about at the Temple. There have been so many prophetic signs throughout Jesus’ time and throughout scripture about who Jesus was and is if only the people of that generation and this generation would open their eyes, their ears and their hearts. Read, listen and learn, then they would know who Jesus is. He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He came to pay the price (the ransom) for our sins, so that we may all live. God the Father, chose His only Begotten Son to pay the price for us, because of His unquestionable, unceasing love for us.

In my studies I found that throughout the Old Testament it has been said in several places that Jesus is spoken of prophetically in scripture more than 300 times. Biblical scholars suggest this. And this is thousands of years before Jesus’ birth. It would be impossible for me to list all of them now and I know my blog has a tendency to stay rather short so that many will read. So I give you homework my dear sisters and brothers. Due diligence this incredible fun task and google (old testament scripture prophecies of Jesus) you will be thrilled and amazed at the results: 833,000 results. Obviously not all of what you are looking for. But the first two pages will serve well for your own personal study.

My suggestion: Bible study needs to be a huge part of who we are in our relationship with Jesus. Great Bible Study starts with a fantastic Bible Resource. I use Bible Gateway and I have been for many many years for my own personal Bible Study. I think you to will enjoy all its features. Check them out. I gain nothing, by your use of the webpage. I only hope and pray that you gain a closer and more vibrant knowledgeable relationship with our Lord.

Bible Gateway https://www.biblegateway.com

My greatest prayer is that you fall in love with scripture. I mean really fall in love with God’s Word like never before. So much so that you have to always have your bible with you wherever you! Even sneak it in so it is with you, so it is with you always! And, you always have to spend time reading scripture every single day! You never seem to feel like you have read enough today and you want to read and learn more! Your love for scripture comes to life in what you do and say and think so much so that the Bible becomes your absolute most favorite book of all! You eventually dive into what is called (click to my blog>>) “Lectio Divina” and really enjoy scripture at wonderful blessed levels that words can’t describe. That is my greatest prayer for you! See you all tomorrow. Well, at least I will chat with you.

Cleansing of The Ten Lepers

BEADS OF JOY 10-09-16
“Cleansing of The Ten Lepers”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:Luke 17:11-19 (Cleansing of The Ten Lepers)
“On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us." When he saw them he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then said Jesus, "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" And he said to him, "Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well."

Reflection:
How grateful have we been to God, who has been merciful and loving to us without any reason for his unconditional love, except that He really loves us? Do we recognize His love and mercy in our lives? How has God’s abundant love blessed us in ways that we notice each day, but fail to give thanks? Those are just a few thoughts to get the Wells of Joy cranking inside our heads and our hearts. We have so much to be thankful for. Jesus immediately recognizes the Samaritans gratefulness and He also takes notice of the others who didn’t take a moment to give thanks. We must always be thankful. Live a life of Gratitude, that’s the best attitude. You appreciate life so much more.

Our lives should be simple, they shouldn’t be so complicated or selfish or so wrapped up in “things” that we have no time to be grateful for those for are generous and kind to us. This life goes by us, so fast. We should slow down and take some time to smell the roses and visit the hospitals and reach out to those who have been so kind to us. When we are on our death if we are so lucky (yes lucky), some people just die; but if you are on your death bed, let’s not have any regrets only joy and thanksgiving in preparing to unite with Jesus. A death bed can be a good place. I see it as God’s way of giving us, just a little bit of time to say good-bye, to say I love you, to say I appreciate all you have done for me. Those final moments many people don’t usual get.

OK, no more, Grim Reaper stuff. LOL. It’s must be because it’s October? Anyhow. Living a life of gratitude changes everything (try it); especially when you start to appreciate everything and everyone in your life. This attitude gives you a whole new perspective on life, a new refreshing, bright, joyful way to see each day. A new refreshing, bright, joyful way to see others. And best of all, you really see how wonderful and glorious our Lord is in your life; because the entire world around you becomes brighter and more joyful for you. As soon as your eyes open in the morning; you become grateful that our Lord has allowed another day for you to enjoy. You have a whole new appreciation for your life and that is a great way to live; it takes away and eliminates selfishness and empty conceit. You become a happier, more joyful person to be with. I hope this reflection fills your heart with Joy and Happiness and you now have a new refreshing way to see how wonderful life can be. Till tomorrow. Keep Smiling and Thanking God.

Truly Blessed Are They

BEADS OF JOY 10-08-16
“Truly Blessed Are They”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 11:27-28 (Truly Blessed Are They)
“As he said this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked!" But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

Reflection:
Do you know that our very goal in this life should be the very reason why God created us in the first place; and that is to be united with Him… -for all eternity in Heaven. Do you hunger for God in your life? Do you really hunger to have Him as an interrogate part of all you do? All the choices you make? Everything! The who in your life or in scripture or in your faith do you look to; as an example of one who gave of their life entirely to God? To His Will? To even the on-slaughter of criticism and even death for some? We have the Saints! We have the Apostles! We have the Blessed Mother! Some of those Saints are from our time, some are from throughout history.

Who do I look to? There are many, but I immediately think of Paul the Apostle, an amazing gifted man; I will speak of him shorty. But first, more candidly I think of Mary, our Lord’s Mother, our Blessed Mother. Right from the start of her conversation with the angel Gabriel she said, “I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it done to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38) No hesitation, I love that! Mary simply, very devoutly believed in God. PERIOD! That is pure faith, if I could have 1% of that incredible deep unquestionable faith my life would be most blessed. Mary stayed by Jesus’ side through it all, knowing in her heart that He had to do this. But this hurt her deeply as His Mother. I can’t imagine the pain of a Mother seeing her Son on a journey; be loved by everyone, then hated and beaten almost to death, and then take up His Cross to His Death. Mary was a very strong woman, strong because of her faith and her understanding that God’s Will and God’s hand was in all that was happening; and she simply trusted everything in the midst of her tears. Pray the Rosary every day to get close to our Lady. I do!

Now Paul the Apostle had a problem, he was a horrible speaker. I am so THRILLED that he was! Why do you ask? If Paul was a GREAT speaker we wouldn’t have the 23% of the New Testament that he wrote. He had the gift of his faith come through in his writings. Where would the Letters to the Corinthians be? They wouldn’t be! What about Romans? Galatians? Paul’s life and journey and commitment to Jesus was unquestionable. His faith was BOLD. Study his life, learn of his journey you will see exactly what I mean. My faith has become Bolder because of the example I have seen in Paul The Apostle.

Remember what Jesus has said today my sisters and brothers, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” See you tomorrow.
