They Left Their Nets

BEADS OF JOY 11-30-18
“They Left Their Nets”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matthew 4:18-22 (Call of The First Disciple)
“As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea;  for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.”

Reflection:
What is holding you back from giving 100%+ to God? Or is there anything holding you back? The disciples were simple ordinary people, none were professed scholars, none were wealthy, none had any great political influence; they were all simple ordinary working men who dealt with the day to day issues of life. The vast majority of us fit into that category. When Jesus calls us to serve, most of us, at the time of our calling, just like the disciples have little or nothing to offer; all we have is a heart with a desire to serve. We are then fashioned to His needs with our gifts and ability. We must allow the power of the Holy Spirit to mold us to what our Lord so desires of us by our gifts; placing full trust in Him as we begin this journey. If we allow it and we are open to the Holy Spirit leading us, it can be a most exciting journey.

All of us have some sort of a gift that God wants in His Kingdom. I know some who have said to me, “Jim, I can’t write, I don’t play an instrument, I can’t build things, I’m not creative, what can I do?” For starters, I always say, slow down and simply ask the Lord to guide you in your prayers. Two ways to look at this, more I guess if you want to take the time to see. But one way is maybe there is a gift inside you that by God’s grace through your love for Him it will come out; and the other is simple incredible gifts so many unfortunately overlook: like being a compassionate friend, having an understanding heart, being a devoted parent, being a devoted sincere loving spouse, being a selfless neighbor looking out for the well-being of the community. There are so many gifts that fill us, sometimes all we need to do is pray about what God wants of us and believe me, He will guide and direct you.

Never underestimate how God will utilize whatever it is we can do. Let us be like the disciples, and follow Jesus fully trusting in Him. When Jesus calls you to serve, don’t run away from the calling thinking; “I can’t be of any use.” You have been chosen, because God sees in you something very special, simply allow His light to shine through you. Allow your hands to be His. Allow your feet to be His. Let Jesus work His Will through you, so that His Will not only brings you closer to Him; but by your work, others are brought to Him. Patience and Trust. Trust fully in Jesus without any reservation, with the Patience of knowing, in His time. Once the flood gates of your heart opens and you allowed His love to flow through you; your life will become an amazing witness, many will love Jesus because you brought Him to them. I know in my heart many of you are on the same page I am on. If any of you have any questions or doubts know that your Priests or a close devout friend will be able to help you. I’m not a Priest yet (wink wink) or Religious, nor a scholar with any Biblical training, neither am I here for profit or gain by all I share each day. I am a simple man, a dad, a husband, a devout servant of Jesus. I am here sharing my faith, from my heart. This 35-year non-stop journey home and I have given all of you a window seat. I hope and pray for all of you, every single day. Talk to you tomorrow.

God’s Will For You

BEADS OF JOY 11-29-18
“God’s Will For You”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Do we live each day anticipating what God has in store for us? Are we living a life that is fully open to whatever direction our Lord sends us? God only knows the direction He wants most for us. Yes, we have the free will to ignore Him, and pay no attention to His will for us, when we know and feel the direction He is sending and nudging us. I always wondered why anyone would want to live their own will, for such a short period of time, instead of God's will for all eternity. God's will is perfect for us, we might not always understand it or agree fully with it; but through prayer and with the help of the Holy Spirit, He will show us how we can best serve Him and share Him.

This life is for but a moment of time, in the whole spectrum of time and eternity. But it is in this very tiny little bit of time, that we will set the direction all eternity will be for each of us. We will all live forever, we have been given the gift of eternal life when Jesus died for us on the cross and defeated death for us. He defeated death for us, but now we must choose the direction our eternity will be. Eternity with Him in Heaven is what Jesus wants for us, He must become for us the single greatest desire we have in our lives. Because in the end, on our death beds, all that will matter will be the "relationships" we have; and in those relationships, the one we have with Jesus is the most important.

There's no way of knowing how long we will live, but we all know how long we will be dead. Psst, answer -(eternity). That alone is so powerful to know and that alone sparks tremendous joy into my heart. This excites my soul so much. Think about this in simple terms, like I do. I like numbers a lot, no that don't make me weird. LOL. But if we look at it this way, how long does the average healthy person usually live till? 70-80-90 years. In the 2002 US statistics, the average American lived till they were 77 years old. Let's be fair, let's say 90. My grandfather lived till he was 92, so for some that's a real number. And how long is eternity? A bazillion, killion trillion, mandilion, dillion years, times a bazillion, times a bazillion, etc... you get the idea. LOL! I made up some of those words. So which side of the "or" do you want to have the most joy on? 90 or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000... Eternity

For many that is a no brainer, but for others; 90 years of selfish, ungodly temporal living is what many believe is so good. I don't know if they are blind, unconscious, ignorant, unaware or they just straight out have no clue what they are trading off. There is so much more joy to the anticipation of God's will for us. So much joy !!!! He has only the best interest in our lives for us; and in His plan for us, we will end up with Him in Heaven for all eternity. I beg everyone to seriously make Jesus your single most important focus in your life. Allow Him to consume your heart and soul, your thoughts, your inner joy. No one in this life can ever be like Him. Trust in Him with all your heart.

You Will Be Hated

BEADS OF JOY 11-28-18
“You Will Be Hated”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 21:12-19 (The Coming Persecutions)
“But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. This will be a time for you to bear testimony. Settle it therefore in your minds, not to meditate beforehand how to answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and some of you they will put to death; you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives.”

Reflection:
Are you ready, willing and able to withstand the coming days of persecution? The road ahead for Christians… looks challenging. Jesus told his disciples in today’s gospel that they will be, “sheep in the midst of wolves;” Jesus has always been completely open and honest with his disciples about coming persecutions. Let us look at another scripture where Jesus speaks… Warning us:

Matthew 24:7-14 “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

Are you going to be able to accept hardship and suffering in serving our Lord Jesus Christ? The road ahead maybe an uphill battle. We have Jesus on our side, we have His Word, we have the Eucharist. We must be strong, and we must do all we can to help encourage one another to remain strong. Even if we must die because of our faith and love for Him, so be it; better to die with Him than without Him.

This isn’t an easy reflection for many to accept or understand. I stand before you in full conviction of my faith. Nothing in this world will ever come before me and my Lord or derail me from believing and loving Jesus first and foremost in my life. We must have courage that God’s plan is greater than our own fears. He knows what we are feeling, He knows what we are fearing. But He also know that we love Him and that what truly matters. Prayer is your greatest possession, embrace it with all your heart. And might I suggest:

Declutter Your Life

BEADS OF JOY 11-27-18
“Declutter Your Life”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

This topic might be hard for many to understand, but I have written about this before. This morning before my prayer time I had laid out the topic and scripture. Within moments of beginning to write, I was overcome by feelings and thoughts of this topic and the urgency we have to take to prepare our lives for our Lord. Let us minimize all we possess in possessions and maximize all we need to possess in our hearts and Spirit. I hope that made sense, Jesus must consume us, and we must allow Him to. Way too many people, possess and own, way too much stuff, literally piles of junk. All that stuff, distracts and interferes with our time and ability to worship our Lord, and we worry about that stuff and some pay to store that stuff. The world is going through some scary changes right now, and this wave of change and disruption may come where we live. It's time to batten down the hatches and secure the most important and most critical of information for us to have to study and read, to meditate and learn from. All of the other things are and will be pointless. Even if the wave of changes don't directly affect us now, in the long run they might. The urgency here is in our focused time and energy to be all about Jesus. Jesus must absolutely be first and foremost in our lives. Prayer time, adoration time, time in His word (read your bible everyday), fellowship, sharing Him with others. Here is a scripture that is bouncing around in my head.

"When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Luke 18:22

This verse says it all, we need to really think about these words of wisdom spoken by our Lord, me, I prefer giving things away. Look at how much I got rid of in my transition to move out to Niagara Falls. Can we really know how all the distractions of all our things, many times prevents us, from following after Jesus? Think of it this way: If we were asked to put all of our possessions, collections, collectibles which are the things we personally possess and value and label as our own; what size trailer or van or how many boxes would you need? I personally know many who could fill a moving van. Please note that I'm not talking about your furniture or your household items, only the items you say are personal things that are yours. How about setting out a goal, of minimal attachment to virtually nothing (yes, nothing), except: Rosary, Bible, Commentary, couple of devotional books, laptop (for fellowship), and that's it, obviously clothes, etc. My goal is this, I’m not done minimizing: Keep and possess only what I can carry all at once, at the same time. All else you either sell and donate your proceeds to those struggling; or you can really be kind and just give them away all those possessions to those you know who like that, I always prefer giving it away. Spread that Joy of giving to family, friends and neighbors. And this needs to be done periodically, either every year, or every other month. We need to do this cleaning, giving away stuff is so much fun.

We are all in different situations and we all have different needs, I am well aware of all that. I don't seek any gain from this, I only echo the words of our Savior and pray that so many prioritize Him. Nothing else (possessions) should matter at all only Him, they only become distractions. Now take a moment and look at scripture again, these are Jesus' words, "Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it." Matthew 10:38-39. Now of cause figuratively speaking, if we were to take up our cross and follow Him, how much more could we carry? If we are lucky, maybe another two or three things, at most. And look at the end of that verse, "whoever loses their life for my sake will find it." So whatever identity we have with all these things, must be lost; in order for us to find our life in Jesus, in carrying our cross following after Him. I know many who hold so tight to their possessions that they watch those they love, suffer; when in fact they can step in and help, but they don’t. How sad for them.

We really need to place all our trust and all of our attention to our Lord, as we begin to do all these things. It is completely possible to do this. I have shared many, many, times about how I give things away, and what I did and how I did it. We don't want to over burden others with our stuff, so spreading it out is what I found worked best; then you are able to bring Joy to many. Try to spend some serious time doing this, even if it took a couple weeks or months. De-clutter and deprogram yourself and your life and your home from all these needless, pointless possessions. At judgment day, God will not care about you possess, rather He would like to know what you did with what He blessed you with. And no, even if you are a clothes horse, and you have the latest styles; or a closest full of shoes and a pair of shoes for everyday of the year. No extra credit will be given, but if in our unselfishness we share with others and we place no other gods before Him, then great will be our treasure be in Heaven. We must remember it's not what we possess that matters, it's what give, that matters.

Consider This: This is like a "Vow of Poverty" obviously not literally but consider it to be to it as close as you can live that vow. Because the vow of poverty manifests itself three ways:

1. Complete reliance on God. (deepening your faith)
2. Simplicity of Life. (requiring less to be happy)
3. Solidarity with The Poor. (you understand)

I Miss You Christine

BEADS OF JOY 11-26-18
“I Miss You Christine”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Two years ago, on this date 11/26, my love, my sweetheart, my baby-cakes went to be with our Lord.

I fell in love with Chrissy before I even knew her name, or even her relationship status. I was in college at the time, working several jobs, one of which was security guard at Pergament’s Hardware Store, near the Staten Island Mall. It was my first day and as I was at the front door, this stunning, very beautiful woman was coming into the entrance. I remember my heart was racing and all time and space, and everything around just froze. I said to myself, under my breathe, “There is the future Mrs. Dacey!” I can’t fully explain the way, I really experienced it in words. It was just so absolutely amazing. She came around the corner, I of cause checked her out fully, she didn’t even glance at me; she looked absolutely incredible, this tiny, gorgeous woman, she just stole my heart.

Then she did the ultimate, she headed towards the time clock. I thought to myself, “Holy Cow, she works here, Thank you Jesus.” And in that moment, I knew she would be in my life forever. Then she was stationed at the Return Desk, right next to where I was standing. Talk about amazing! Our first date was Chrissy’s 26th Birthday, August 21, 1986. I was 21 years old.

Well, then the rest is history...

There was No Way in the world I was going to lose this woman I wanted her for the rest of my life. Period. And so our lives began together, rather quickly.

©   ...we eloped Oct 24, 1986
(we were told by many, this will never last)
©     ...then Chrissy was pregnant
©     ...then Chrissy had a miscarriage
©     ...then Chrissy’s left lung collapsed
(ironically, the same lung that was cancer filled)
©     ...then we had a big Church Wedding May 2, 1987
(beyond absolutely amazing)
©     ...then we had 30 amazing, incredible years together...

Christine is absolutely gorgeous.. My Baby-cakes !!!

Christ The King

BEADS OF JOY 11-25-18
“Christ The King”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 18:33-37 (Trial Before Pilate)
“Pilate entered the praetorium again and called Jesus, and said to him, "Are  you the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered, "Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?" Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me; what have you done?" Jesus answered, "My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world." Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice."

Reflection:
Let us begin this most joyous, glorious day with reading today's gospel. The glory of this day speaks for itself. This is truly the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year B, next Sunday begins Advent, when Year C begins. Let us take a moment to reflect on the gospel, God's word alone will put our hearts in His presence. I absolutely love the gospels. There was a point and time in my early days walking with Jesus that I actually wrote out, by hand (yes, with a pen) all the gospels. Why? you ask. lol. So that God's words would be embedded in my heart, my mind and thoughts. I still remember the many weeks that took to do. I never kept it after I wrote it, but I have been felt led to write it all out again. What a blessing, what a Joy.

Just take a moment and reflect on these few thoughts:
Do we really know that Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords? Do we live a life submitted to Him, true to the fact that He is King? Who do we serve? Who is our Lord? Who is our King? Let's face it, a King or a Lord, don't have to be a person. It can be an addiction, or desire, or pride, or wealth, or money, sex, power, ourselves, or selfishness. So much to really think about.

We really need to ponder on so many thoughts like this, as we walk with Jesus on this journey to His presence. Our lives can be so easily distracted and misled into the abyss and lost for all eternity; worshiping and honoring the gods of this world, and of this earth, which are only out to destroy us. Please consider staying focused on Jesus. 24/7/365 He is our Savior and our Lord.

Today more than ever pray, "Jesus, Lord and King, I trust in You."

God of The Living

BEADS OF JOY 11-24-18
“God of The Living”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:
Luke 20:27-40 (Question About The Resurrection)
“There came to him some Sadducee's, those who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the first took a wife and died without children; and the second and the third took her, and likewise all seven left no children and died. Afterward the woman also died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife." And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage; but those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of  Isaac and the God of Jacob. Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him." And some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you have spoken well." For they no longer dared to ask him any question.

Reflection:
Beginning Thought: Proof of immortality isn’t only about the body and soul; it’s also about the fellowship and relationship with the living God.

Let us not forget that God is always God of the living. They keep questioning Jesus! Why won’t they believe in Him? Do you believe the scriptures? Do you believe in Jesus? Would you be one of those rejecting our Lord and want to interrogate Him to find Him guilty for anything? I couldn’t even imagine if these things took place in today’s world. There is so much hatred towards so many faiths and beliefs in this world; that Jesus would absolutely be rejected by so many in this day and age.

Here’s a thought: Do you have to deal with rejection or questioning about what you believe or what you know about what you believe? I do occasionally. But now, less than when I was new in my faith. I think it has a lot to do with choices. I choose to be with like-minded people, though sometimes I can’t always control that. But I am so 100% anchored in my faith that no one will ever shake me. See my anchor is in China, (yep China) it goes deep into the earth and completely to the other side of the planet, nothing and no one is moving me. I will stay at my post as I have always said all these decades throughout so many of my blogs.

Hey, did someone just yell a question? LOL, I must be hearing things again, but I did hear you ask me, “How are able to be so solid and strong in your faith while being under opposition and rejection and hatred?” It’s so simple, I am so in love with my Lord and our Lady that nothing, I mean nothing, will ever change how I love them. Not even death could separate me from that love I have for them. My allegiance is 100% solid to my Lord Jesus Christ. So, with all that in mind and all that I shared; once you are that much in love, you will never ever move. Think of this another way. Your spouse or your child is about to be hit by a car and there is only one choice you must take to save them; you must push them out of the way, but in doing so, your life will be taken. Why would you do that? Because your love for them is without question and that love takes precedence in all situations. Period! Hope that makes even more sense now. Stand strong in what you believe; be kind, thoughtful, but never ever back down or fold or switch sides. Love Jesus with ALL your heart, ALL your mind and ALL your soul, always!!

Pondering these thoughts today: Wow. Today was indeed a strong message about believing. Here’s a challenge I’d like you to do. Wear a CROSS somehow, someway for all to see. It can be large, small, tiny; just make sure it is in plain sight. Be prepared, you maybe hated and then you may be loved. Do it for Jesus! I always wear my Franciscan Cross pin. I see many eyes look at it, but no words are ever spoken; but I know they know, that I know, that they know. Hahaha. Nice way to end this, with a smile.

Jim (The Rosary Man) Dacey Jr OFS

Today is Saturday: We pray the Joyful Mysteries:

The Joyful Mysteries

1. The Annunciation (Humility) – Luke 1:26-28
2. The Visitation (Love of Neighbor) – Luke 1:39-45
3. The Birth of Jesus (Poverty of Spirit) – Luke 2:1-20
4. The Presentation (Purity of Mind & Spirit) – Luke 2:22-38
5. Finding in The Temple (Obedience) –Luke 2:41-50

I simply love Saturday mornings, because Saturday like every other day of the week -begins with the Rosary.
