The Visitation

BEADS OF JOY 05-31-19
“The Visitation”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 1:39-56 (The Visitation)
“In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord." And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever." And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.”

Reflection:
Today’s gospel is The Visitation, The Canticle of Mary, The Second Joyful Mystery. Mary not only said yes, and trusted so unquestionably in God’s request, His Will for her; but that faith built the foundational block that brought our Lord to us through her womb. So many people have little respect for our Blessed Mother, I just can't comprehend their lack of it. Mary basically gave up her life completely and she did what God had asked of her, and most importantly Mary never pursued her own desires or interests. Her life was hidden for the most part, with the main objective to raise and love her Son; to help Him grow strong for what was ahead.

We'll never know the full heart and mind of Mary, but we do see and understand the sacrificial life she had. Her faith is such an example to live, for anyone who believes in Jesus. For it was through Mary that Jesus came into this world and into our lives. God through the power of the Holy Spirit touched Mary's heart and she said “Yes” when the Angel Gabriel approached her at the Annunciation. A choice that would change her life and ours for all eternity. Mary's mission ultimately became the first mission to believe solidly in God's Will for her to bring Jesus into this world. The Holy Spirit is simply amazing, I know first-hand how powerful and genuine and impressionable the Holy Spirit is in one’s life. We just have to be open and be ready for the Holy Spirit to work its miracles in our lives. It's not always easy to understand it all, but honestly, I don't think we have to. That's where our faith and trust must come into all aspects of our lives.

Everywhere Mary went, the Holy Spirit touched others. The Visitation in today's gospel tells us, "And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit" verse 41. This is a little bizarre, but I guess that's what makes my blogs interesting at times. Remember "Mary Had a Little Lamb", bear with me for a moment, my mind has so many weird, useless things stored in it. LOL. I want you to think about this part of that for just a moment. "Everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go." Oh wow, does that not resonate to the full meaning and purpose Mary has been in our lives. Do you see the connection in that nursey rhyme and a pregnant blessed mother? To me that means if you are an “Ambassador of the Rosary or of Marian Devotion" Jesus is surely there. Point being, that you can go to her to get to Him. Absolutely exciting, joyful, incredible news pondering that simple thought. Our faith can be as complicated as we so desire it to be; or we can keep it simple and to the point and spend all of our time loving Him. I prefer the simple life, of loving and worshiping my Lord while I adore and love His mother.

Mary is our role model, our Lord's Blessed Mother, and our mother. Let us embrace her, with the same faith she had, in the same Holy Spirit that approached her. Would we do what she did? Do we have that kind of courage and faith that she had? I don’t know, we can say yes now, because of everything we know; but what about back then, Mary risked her life by saying yes. She didn't just say yes, because she had to, she didn't say yes, because she was told to; she said yes, because of her faith and trust in God's will for her in her life. She knew better than we could ever know now, the risk of an unmarried woman being pregnant in her time. She could have been stoned to death. Instead of worrying about her own selfishness in this life, she risked everything to fulfill God's will to bring to us our Savior. We really should be forever indebted to her for living such a life of sacrifice as she did. Now on that same thought, it was Mary who brought Him to us. Trust in our Lord to guide your heart to loving her, simply pray, "Jesus, I trust in You".

Pondering these thoughts today: Charity and Love of Neighbor, this is what the second Joyful Mystery truly represents in our lives. Let us try to be like Mary in whatever way that works best in our lives. Reaching out to our neighbors, our family, our friends and even someone we don’t know. Incorporate random acts of kindness into your life as much as you possibly can. And also, be attentive to God’s calling in our lives. Be open to whatever would glorify God.

Wearing My Rosary

BEADS OF JOY 05-30-19
“Wearing My Rosary”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

There is something extremely special about the rosary and it can't be explained in such a way that everyone can understand, but by saying that I know many of you do. In every one’s life there needs to be a very special joy. The joy I embrace in the Rosary can't be fully explained completely. At least off the top of my head, I can't come up with a quick explanation; except that our Blessed Mother's love is embedded in every single one of those beads. Jesus is so alive in these precious mysteries, it’ earth shaking. In many ways the Rosary comes to life every single time I hold my beads. Back when I made my first mission bead in 1989, I started "wearing" my mission beads around my neck. My choice to wear it was twofold. First and foremost was so that I would always have a set of rosary beads on me because I pray the rosary so much; and second so that it would invoke conversation or at least curiosity. And believe you-me to this day 36 years later both of those needs still get met when I wear my beads. And I still wear the very first mission beads I made properly by myself.

I invite all of you, (though I know so many of you already do) to embrace the Rosary and make it become part of your prayer life. The rosary is all about Jesus, His life, His Ministry. There is something about those beads that just holding them gives me such contentment. In my life I have embraced those beads so much; that I have to say in all honesty and with the fullest of heart, that beyond those beads, aside from my bible, I don't need or desire anything at all. I mean that, life is so complete with the Rosary in your life. Jesus is the center, and Mary is in union with us. And with that we also have the indwelt Holy Spirit inside of us, guiding us and drawing us ever closer to Jesus. I can remember back when I fell in love with my rosary prayers. I would be praying my rosary literally anywhere and everywhere. I mean that. As the spirit lead many a times on my way home from work, I'd just pull over to the side of the road and be fully focused on a decade or even a full rosary. I used to take breaks at work, when I was in business and find a quiet place and pray a full rosary (I use to do that a lot). Please understand I still do these things, but just in a different way. Technology allows me to have devices that have reflections and music that I add to my daily prayers. Now in my life, the rosary is truly alive even more every single day. I challenge you. But keep in mind, my private prayer life is my secret between me and my Lord.

I know many of you personally and I know that you pray your rosary daily. So, I send this challenge out to those who don't and also those who already do. "Increase your rosary prayer time." Pray the complete rosary, spontaneously pray, plan prayers, unite with others, text to invite and begin to Pray The Rosary with someone, no matter where they live. It'll be like you put a case of fireworks into your prayer life. It will indeed come alive and the more you do this, the more you will want it, and the more it will become part of your everyday with... our Lord, our Lady and the Rosary. The biggest first step is to make sure you always have your Rosary Beads with you, no matter where you go, ALWAYS. That's why I wear mine. As I get dressed each day, wherever I am going, putting my Rosary Beads on is just a normal part of me getting dressed. Pray about all these things. Love you guys.

This is an excerpt from "The Secrets of The Rosary"
The 8th Rose

"Our Lady blesses not only those who preach her Rosary, but she highly rewards all those who get others to say it by their example.

Alphonsus, King of Leon and Galicia, very much wanted all his servants to honor the Blessed Virgin by saying the Rosary. So, he used to hang a large rosary on his belt and always wore it, but unfortunately never said it himself. Nevertheless, his wearing it encouraged his courtiers to say the Rosary very devoutly.

One day the King fell seriously ill and when he was given up for dead, he found himself, in a vision, before the judgement seat of Our Lord. Many devils were there accusing him of all the sins he had committed and Our Lord as Sovereign Judge was just about to condemn him to hell when Our Lady appeared to intercede for him. She called for a pair of scales and had his sins placed in one of the balances whereas she put the rosary that he had always worn on the other scale, together with all the Rosaries that had been said because of his example. It was found that the Rosaries weighed more than his sins.

Looking at him with great kindness Our Lady said: "As a reward for this little honor that you paid me in wearing my Rosary, I have obtained a great grace for you from my Son. Your life will be spared for a few more years. See that you spend these years wisely and do penance."

Spirit of Truth

BEADS OF JOY 05-29-19
“Spirit of Truth”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 16:12-15 (Work of The Holy Spirit)
I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore, I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

Reflection:
Our hearts and minds will be enlightened by the wisdom of the Spirit of the Truth today. The inseparable Triune God has been brought into our lives. We do not have a full understanding exactly (by God’s design) what this mystery means; but no matter what, we know and trust God’s greatest intentions for us. All we need to know is that all are equal, and all give to one another unconditionally equally with no other intent other than to do for each other. In today’s blog I will share some of Fr. Gerald Mullally’s wisdom on this subject.

How can we personally know all three, yet all separate and distinctly separate, yet still one? Come on, that's a great question. But many may even answer it like I will. Each distinct person of the trinity play unique roles biblically and personally. I'm no scholar, just a bit addicted to our Lord, our Lady and the Rosary and the Holy Spirit; so sometimes my insight can't be seen from the street, you need to come into the yard, past the fence. What in the world am I talking about? LOL Did that make sense? I’m just all wound up with so much joy inside. So, come on over and check this out. God is the ultimate part of the trinity, he is the creator, the God head. “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Mark 13:32. See God the Father is Lord. While the Son is our Savior, the sacrifice sent by God to save the world, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17. And the Holy Spirit will be our helper, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26. There is obviously way more to that, but you get the gist, there are three separate yet distinct persons -in the trinity.

Pondering these thoughts today: How often through your day, through your trials and even through your challenges do you listen attentively to the Holy Spirit? How do you refer to the Holy Trinity? Do you share your love for and understanding of the 3 persons of the Trinity? Many don’t understand it, but that’s Ok, we will do our best to help them understand it; and all goes well the Spirit within them will help us, help them. Trust in that sixth sense of direction inside you. I trust fully in the Holy Spirit’s lead many times in my life. No, every time isn’t a perfect fit, or conclusion. Nope, sometimes all I get is a great lesson. The way I see it, I always gain wisdom in some way. The joy in my life overflows, lately now, more than ever. 2019 is turning out to be a most memorable, incredible, completely fantastic year for me in my life. I thank our Lord every single day for this amazing journey.

Here is Fr. Mullally’s wisdom: It was best said back in a homily by him, on May 30, 2010, I have it on video, that I recorded of him. Here’s what he said, "What is God? God is a total unity of three Persons, an eternal community of living love, of mutual self-giving. There is no holding back, there are no hidden agendas, there is no manipulation. The inner life of God is absolute, no-holds-barred generosity, eternal and unlimited self-giving. That is God: three perfect divine Persons who perfectly share the unique divine nature." Insight-fully magnificent Father, thank you. Father's homilies were always like this.

Will Send Him To You

BEADS OF JOY 05-28-19
“Will Send Him To You”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 16:5-11 (Work of The Holy Spirit)
But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, `Where are you going?' But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”

Reflection:

Many of us know what it feels like to be separated from our loved ones. In today’s gospel Jesus speaks of His leaving the disciples. We must be reminded what Romans 8:31-39 speaks of when talking about (More Than Conquerors). This scripture is a wonderful guide in where our love is for Jesus and where His love is for us.

Romans 8:31-39 (More Than Conquerors)
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Today let us ask the Holy Spirit to set the fire of our love for our Lord inside our hearts. Let us ask that our desire and our love be pure and holy and in accord to God’s Will. Let us ask for courage, and to help guide us in what is pleasing to God.

Here is a great scripture reference.
Romans 8:14-17 (Life Through the Spirit)
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Pondering these thoughts today: Has the Spirit within you, the Holy Spirit condemned you of your sins? The Spirit is well aware of our wrongdoings, but the Spirit also helps convince us to do what is right. The Holy Spirit also gives us that unshakeable conviction that makes us bold in our faith. Do you allow the Spirit to literally reign free in your life, setting your heart on fire for God? If you do, you will find that you will end up spending every moment sharing His love and spreading the Good News of Jesus to all. And the JOY within your heart; will explode within so that you will share Jesus with everyone.

From The Father

BEADS OF JOY 05-27-19
“From The Father”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:
John 15:26-16:4a (Counselor will bear Witness)

But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me; and you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the beginning. (John 16) I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away. They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them. I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.”

Reflection:
Jesus has done a most splendid amazing blessing for us; when He and the Father gave us the Holy Spirit to be with us. This is the best of the best when it comes to help strengthening us spiritually. The Holy Spirit challenges us, the Holy Spirit advises us, and the Holy Spirit shows us and leads us to Jesus. The Holy Spirit when understood spiritually and our Spirit is alive within; the Holy Spirit becomes the “litmus test” for us as choices and decisions and events unfold in our lives.

What do I mean my “litmus test”? Many understand that but to be sure we are all on the same page -I will explain my intention in its use. The meaning I use in what I am saying is this: Litmus test - a test that relies on a single indicator. With the help of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit from God Himself; the choices and challenges and events in my life will know immediately (that one single indicator) whether it is good or not to do or be or have or whatever. Our morals will be attentive, and our reverence and even our love for God will be in order and attentive to God when the Spirit is alive within us. How is your moral compass?

St. Augustine said it best and I love this, you may want to write this down and share it and truly live it. He is so right to the insight and understanding of these most blessed words:

“Love God and do whatever you please: for the soul trained in love to God will do nothing to offend the One who is Beloved.” ~St Augustine

If you love God, then his Holy Spirit, who dwells in you, will conform you—all of you, including your desires—into the image of his Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). In this way, what pleases you and what pleases God become one and the same such that if you love God, you can do whatever pleases you and God will be pleased.

Pondering these thoughts today: Consider praying for the Holy Spirit to help you and strengthen you and fill you with faith, hope and love. With the Holy Spirits assistance and counsel, you will build courage and perseverance in your quest for a deeper relationship with our Lord. Have you ever considered truly turning to the Holy Spirit and asking for help and guidance in your spiritual journey? If not, I highly recommend you do. The Holy Spirit just might surprise you, with how helpful and great a response it will be.

Lord, teach us to love more consciously as we seek Your presence; teach us to turn to the Holy Spirit more often in our daily prayers. Please help me in my ability to know when it is the Holy Spirit prompting me. Thank you, Lord, Amen.

The Father Will Send

BEADS OF JOY 05-26-19
“The Father Will Send”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 14:23-29 (Promise of The Holy Spirit)
Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Fathers who sent me. "These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all  that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, `I go away, and I will come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place, you may believe.”

Reflection:

Today we learn how Jesus explains to each of us, that God has given us a most special Counselor; an actual direct part of the Holy Trinity to now reside with us. Get on the roof tops and yell and scream with excitement!! Can you believe it God, Almighty God, our Father “gave” to us, part of His very self to learn and to be guided by to lead us to Himself? I get so excited inside my heart knowing that one third of Almighty God resides inside me, guiding me and showing me the way. We see by this very act of love for another, that God indeed loves us beyond all understanding. His love for us is real, His love is the true love of a Father.

I get goose bumps just thinking about how incredibly powerful and loving all of this is. God's love for us is so tremendous that not only did He sacrifice His only Son; but going even one step further, He has instilled, and He has entrusted, inside each of us, a piece of Himself. Let me share with you a very insightful part of our Catechism. This is so exciting to share, so hold on; this is going to be a light speed experience of JOY. One that you will cherish all of your life. "The mission of the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father in the name of the Son (John 14:26) and by the Son "from the Father" (John 15:26), reveals that, with them, the Spirit is one and the same God. “With the Father and the Son, he is worshiped and glorified" (Nicene Creed)." CCC#263 Now do you see how exciting all of this is. I am at that point once again, the point that I tend to get to most every day these past thirty years; where the Joy inside my heart and soul are constantly overflowing; leading us into a week of some pretty exciting information to share.

We need to allow the Holy Spirit to work inside of us freely. We need to be open to the direction and the choices the Holy Spirit leads us to, I always do. Sometimes we won't clearly understand these things, sometimes we won't even know how it all came together. But we must trust fully in God and how truly real the love He has for us is. I challenge every one of you, to pray that the Holy Spirit inside you, helps direct your life and that you become ever so much closer to Jesus. Your life will never ever be the same ever again. I truly love all of you with all my heart. Sharing these things are so important. We are all God's children, let us embrace one another and help one another get closer to God our Father, Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit that resides in us. This is such an exciting topic, I think we could easily spend weeks, if not months, just talking about all of this, and we probably still would be only scratching the surface. The Holy Spirit that we have been given is essentially a "part of" God Himself. It is one part of the "Holy Trinity" and that one part now resides inside of each us. Dear Lord, THANK YOU for loving us so much!!!

Pondering these thoughts today: In your life do you live in peace with Jesus in your heart? In Jesus’ time the cross represented shame, humiliation and the total losing in the battle of life. When Jesus died upon the cross, He brought glory and praise to Almighty God the Father. Do you find peace in the cross of Jesus? Do you see a place of reconciliation when you kneel before Him? Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you to Him. Allow the Holy Spirit to help your knowledge build a greater love for our Lord. Embrace the Holy Spirit of God that resides inside you; it’ll be through the Holy Spirit that God shall be revealed more clearly to you. I love you guys and I pray that you have a most blessed Lord’s Day…
