My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 5:1-16 (Cure on a Sabbath)
“After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Bethzatha, which has five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame, paralyzed. One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?" The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another step down before me." Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your pallet, and walk." And at once the man was healed, and he took up his pallet and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. So, the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the Sabbath, it is not lawful for you to carry your pallet." But he answered them, "The man who healed me said to me, `Take up your pallet, and walk.'" They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, `Take up your pallet, and walk'?" Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you." The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. And this was why the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did this on the Sabbath.”

Reflection:
Do you have in your heart, a real desire to be healed? Jesus wants to heal all of us. I believe that with all my heart, even those dying go through a healing process along the way. Chrissy suffered horribly at all different times through her six years of having stage 4 lung cancer. But with that said, she also had moments of joy and healing. Her diagnose was in May of 2010, she as written off to die by her doctors, twice that year. By God’s hand she didn’t, she beat death. Then years continued, and the chemo was taking its toll and in February of 2013 we were told by her Oncologist, that she wouldn’t live long enough to Christmas that year. She did!

Doctors may know medicine and reading a chart, but they DO NOT know the Will of God. Anyone who looks up and learns about the exact cancer Chrissy had; finds that most people once diagnosed with Stage 4 of it, barely live a few months, most never exceed two years. And only a very few ever go six years with this horrible disease. I’ve always admired Christine’s strength and ability to tolerate pain and never complain; but this was a fight she was battling to win. Throughout all of this not once did she ever put her sword down. She was not going to surrender. Instead, Chrissy would smile with a half grin and swallow the pain and keep up with us for the most part. She always told me, she doesn’t want sympathy.

Jesus won’t ever refuse anyone seeking a healing; it’s just that we must trust in His Will, as to how that healing may happen. Chrissy was blessed, she had time to make things right with God and everyone and herself. And that she did. She and I talked about so many things the days I was home after my strokes. In-fact let me so bold to say, that the pain I suffered watching her suffer, began it’s healing AFTER I had my two strokes. Because it as only then that I had unlimited access to my Baby-Cakes. Being with her 24/7/365, hugging her and kissing her and cuddling with her every single day; and most especially telling her while looking deep into her eyes (sometimes in shared tears) that I love with all my heart, meant so much to her and to me. I may still have my moments where my heart leaks tears; but I have learned that in suffering, while suffering, there is healing.

Pondering these thoughts today:
-Do you really want Jesus to heal you?
-Do you wish to be forgiven and set free from guilt?
-How much of a grip does your addiction have upon you?
(Monthly confession as Fr. Larry Richard’s says,
“It’s good for the soul.”) Consider it...
