He Will Teach You

BEADS OF JOY 04-30-18
“He Will Teach You”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 14:21-26 (The Advocate)
“He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him." Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?" Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Fathers who sent me. "These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

Reflection:
We must keep one thing in mind, God loves each of us individually as if each one of us, was the only person that existed. That is why our relationship with Him, is so real and so incredible, once you really welcome Him to be in our lives. St. Augustine says it this way, “The Lord loves each of us as if there were only one of us to love.” God made us out of love to love, so that, we to, would love. Obviously, everything comes from God, but it’s all through His love.

Let me say this: I get all excited and filled with so much joy; most people can’t for the life of them, figure me out. Yes, I admit cream soda has something to do with it, I love cream soda, I really do. But, it’s not that! Inside of me there is a fire, a fire that’s been burning for the past 35 years and it is ragging with excitement sharing and loving and telling everyone about Jesus, our Lady and the Rosary. To me, this life is all about, me giving my life to tell everyone about Jesus. For that is the greatest use of my life, to draw others to my Lord.

My friends simply ask the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with love, a love that can’t be contained within your heart. So that once that love is jam packed into your heart, you will feel the desire and need to share it with everyone. Jesus is Love. Share Him with everyone, straight up and to the point or by your actions in being like He would towards others. Get Excited!! Allow your heart to go wild and crazy for Jesus, don’t hold back. I love expressing my Joy and my Love and my Excitement for my Lord and our Lady and the Rosary. You can too. We all can. Become contagious. Relax and have fun sharing your faith.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

Pondering these thoughts today:
It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that we are guided and led and directed to our Lord. Yes, Jesus calls us, but it is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we answer that call and by God’s grace that we understand and pursue the calling. It is way simpler than what I just said. I even laughed when I reread it but figured I would pass on the chuckle to you. It may be a tongue twister, but to all who understand, it makes sense; to all who don’t understand, I pray that soon you to will understand through the power of the Holy Spirit exactly what I am sharing and saying through all my joy.

You Abide In Me

BEADS OF JOY 04-29-18
“You Abide In Me”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 15:1-8 (The Vine and The Branches)
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine dresser. Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples.”

Reflection:
Let me start with this quote, it’s very powerful and most insightful: "So, the world - life enslaved by carnal passions - can no more receive the grace of the Spirit than a weak eye can look at the light of a sunbeam. First the Lord cleansed his disciples' lives through his teaching, and then he gave them the ability to both see and contemplate the Spirit. He says, 'You are already made clean by the word I have spoken to you' (John 15:3). Therefore 'the world cannot receive him, because it neither sees him nor knows him... You know him, for he dwells with you' (John 14:17). Isaiah says, 'He who settled the earth and the things in it; and gives breath to the people on it, and Spirit to them that tread on it' (Isaiah 42:5). From this we can learn that those who trample earthly things and rise above them become worthy to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." ~Basil the Great

Between today’s gospel this amazing quote we need to really re-evaluate our own spiritual life. Are we enslaved in our own passions in this world? Are we too consumed by what’s going on here, and in that focus losing our focus on Jesus? Do we seriously abide in Jesus? What does abide even mean anyway? Maybe we need to start there to better understand our part in today’s gospel.

When we “abide in Jesus” what are we doing? We are obeying Him, keeping the commandments that God has set forth. And with that obedience we love Him with all our hearts, all our soul and all our mind, like it’s said in Matthew 22. And to go further, how do we show this love for our Lord? Through our trust in Him. Through our devotion to Him and through the depths of our own personal and public prayer life. And since Jesus is Love. We abide all things in Love. So, we pursue, pray and obey in Love. I hope this has been helpful.

Abide In Christ - John 15:5

Pondering these thoughts today:
Trusting in Jesus’ healing power is key here. It is through the True Vine – Jesus, that we gain the abundant life? What does a vine produce? Fruit! The fruits of charity are joy, peace and mercy. When it comes to the fruits of the Holy Spirit, they are: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity. All of this and so much more give us an incredibly abundant life. jimdaceyjunior@yahoo.com

He Who Believes In Me

BEADS OF JOY 04-28-18
“He Who Believes In Me”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 14:7-14 (Last Supper Discourse)
“If you had known me, you would have known my Father also; henceforth you know him and have seen him." Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, `Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves. "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.”

Reflection:
How is your private personal prayer life doing? We all have challenges, we all miss days or hours of prayer. Don’t be discouraged. I learned something a long time ago from Fr. Jeff Conway (1983). I asked him, “How can I, somehow, get more committed in my prayer life? I feel like such a failure when I get too busy or my time is too short.” He said to me and I’ll never forget this, “Jim, God knows how much you want to pray. He knows how much you love Him. Continue starting over and forging forward. It is better to begin again, then to end such a blessed desire to pray.” Those words stayed imbedded in my heart, all these years, to never be defeated by what distracts me.

The greatest thing in the entire world we can have, is a relationship with Jesus. We, through our faith, have a relationship with the living God. Isn’t that so exciting? God has revealed Himself to us, to love us, to comfort us, to save us. I can’t contain the joy inside of me, most of the time. I just don’t get it, why so many more people don’t understand my intense, overflowing joy that I share. But, I do know many of you do. This is the driving force inside me that wants to keep sharing Jesus, our Lady and the Rosary with everyone.

I am so glad that we have scripture to help us, to show us, to guide us, to encourage us. The Bible is truly my favorite book in the whole world, as many of you have told me, it is yours too. We have our Living God’s – Living Word to embrace each day. The butterflies race and flutter inside me for scripture, just as much as they do when I think of the Rosary. Keeping Jesus fully alive inside us is what gives us that amazing faith that helps others see our Joy.

Reading of John 14:7-14

Pondering these thoughts today: Today let’s have a fun challenge. Grab your Bible. Open it and pick 3 exciting verses that help spark excitement in your faith journey. To help you find them use this link: Bible Gateway

These are mine:

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.” ~Romans 12:2

We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” ~Romans 14:7-8

Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” ~Matthew 22:36-40

In My Father’s House

BEADS OF JOY 04-27-18
“In My Father’s House”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 14:1-6 (Last Supper Discourse)
"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me."

Reflection:
Stay 100% completely focused on our Lord; do not let your eyes be distracted away from Jesus. This world will scoop you up and devour you in a heart-beat. Jesus must be the center focus of all that you do, all that you think about, all that you plan, everything. Consume Him as He consumes you. This life goes by very fast. You may not see it if you are 20 years old, or 35 years old right now; but I will say at 53 years old, time has raced by never stopping, never slowing down. I have even seen the last 17 months race by since Chrissy has passed away. In the beginning each day felt like a thousand years, but then at some point; each month felt like a day. I can’t explain it, time gets goofy when you lose someone.

With all that said, I say, “Hang on and pray and pray and pray, like you really mean it.” Do not get distracted by the pleasures and success of this world. Yes, you can partake in what is necessary, to raise a family and be a good employee or boss; but don’t fall victim to pride and envy and the desires that pull you away from our Lord. Separation from God is the worst, the most horrible end result in this life that you can ever have happen, many will receive that. Avoid it!

Judas chose money and wealth over friendship and loyalty and love. I know Judas is not in today’s gospel, but he got distracted, he got off the path following Jesus. Yes, what he did had to happen, and no, we don’t know his absolute end, except for what is in scripture. But, we can learn by him, that even someone walking and eating so close to Jesus, can so easily be distracted and lose sight of Him and fall off the path completely. We must not allow this in our lives. Live a simple life, devoutly focused on Jesus. Fill your life with prayer and always pray for others. The gift of prayer is beyond precious and beyond everlasting. Pray for everyone you can, and get excited, adding their names to your prayer list. It’s hard to understand this joy inside me, unless you really truly love Jesus with every single fiber of your being. But, I am sure so many of you do.

"I am the way and the truth and the life" John 14:6

Pondering these thoughts today: I guess the best take away here is to stay focused on Jesus. I know we have been saying that for many days now; but we really need to keep saying it and thinking it constantly. It needs to always be on our minds, so that for not even a moment, we will slip off the path. The evil one doesn’t sleep, he doesn’t rest, he doesn’t do anything but focus on destroying us. We must be vigilant in our faith and our loyalty to our Lord. Prayer, adoration, Mass and confession as often as you possibly can. Increase your prayer life. Consider the Liturgy of the Hours! Not necessarily all 8 times, but maybe morning prayers (Prime) and evening prayers (Vespers). Just a thought.

Blessed Are You

BEADS OF JOY 04-26-18
“Blessed Are You”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 13:16-20 (Jesus Foretells His Betrayal)
“Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. I am not speaking of you all; I know whom I have chosen; it is that the scripture may be fulfilled, `He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.' I tell you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives any one whom I send receives me; and he who receives me receives him who sent me."

Reflection:
Life sure does have it’s share of challenges, indeed. But, loving and never denying our Lord and Savior, shouldn’t be one of them. I am a cradle Catholic, and we were a church going, faith living family. Both my grandmas were devoted to the Rosary and many Aunts also. In-fact, both sides of my Italian family had many generations of devout Catholics; all the way back into Italy, who I found out, were devoted to the Rosary. But, somewhere along the line, I got lost and I didn’t fully believe. This was back in 1982-3. I wasn’t a rebel, I just felt that there was no way, there could possibly be a God. Oh, how I was so wrong and how I regret even having those thoughts. But Thank God, by His grace I was led back home.

The Gospel in My Life

he who receives any one whom I send receives me
My mother asked me to go with her to her prayer meeting because my Aunt Annie, her sister was sick and unable to go. I know when mom went to these “meeting” she was gone for hours, so I thought to myself, “No Way are you getting me caught in that loss of time.” But my mom really pleaded and promised my involvement would be zero. So, for my mom, I said, “Ok, I’ll go, but you promise I do not get involved with this.” She agreed. My mom tells me when I was born she offered me up to our Lord to whatever His Will is in my life so that I will always serve Him. Hmm! Wow! I, only recently learned this, when I told my mom I was discerning the Priesthood. This experience at the prayer group, that I wanted no part of, was obviously in God’s Plan for me.

and he who receives me receives him who sent me."
When you read “My Story “ you learn of my journey. It was my mother who brought me to Jesus, and Jesus brought me to an experience, that changed my life forever. I didn’t simply return to my Lord, I returned running back to Him with so much over-flowing joy and love. These past 35 years, I still feel like I have only just begun. I know, I will be like this spiritually till the day I take my last breath. The reason why I do, what I do, is simply. My goal has always been to spread the love of our Lord, our Lady and the Rosary to all the world. I know I am just one voice, but that’s ok. I have already reached out to every single country in the world; and I will continue to write and share. I want my children and my family and all of you, and even those I don’t know, who have read this to always love and grow in your faith. -Long after I am gone…

Reading of John 13:16-20

Pondering these thoughts today: Think about this for just a moment. Today, I think would be a good day, to begin a list of names of people you are praying for. I got this idea from Fr. Mullally many years ago. Either in your bible (they are in my bible) or in a small notebook, begin to list the names of your family and friends and anyone else you can think of, who you want to pray for or who sked for prayer. This is more or less a continuing thought from yesterday. This list will be an ongoing list that you will add to regularly. When I asked Fr. Mullally, “How do I pray for people I know need prayer, but can’t remember everyone’s name, it would actually take too long to mention them all anyway, how do I deal with that?” He said when you are praying offer up all the names of the people in this book or on these pages. Wow! I loved that idea and I have capitalized on it for decades now. Hope you feel blessed writing this out. Remember these are people you are praying for. Suggestion: Add those who irate you and even hurt you to this list. God knows your heart.

Taken Up Into Heaven

BEADS OF JOY 04-25-18
“Taken Up Into Heaven”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:
Mark 16:15-20 (Commissioning of the Eleven)
“And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover." So, then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen.

Reflection:
God has plans that continuously move forward for all of us. Do you feel like there is something special waiting for you? Is there something deep inside of you aching to serve Jesus in a special way? Staying focused on prayer and never taking our eyes or our hearts off of Jesus is important. He will guide you and lead you. You my friend, have a special task that only you can do for our Lord. Have patience and faith that He will lead you in the direction that you should be going. And might I suggest that you spike up your private prayer life. Staying focused on our Lord, makes it so much easier to know what our Lord wants of us. If we barely give Him any of our time, then how in the world will we ever surrender our lives over to Him and know what He wants of us. Believe me, if your life is impossibly busy, He will help you find a way. All things are possible through Jesus.

Don’t let today’s gospel have you thinking you must travel the world and begin preaching and teaching everyone, about Jesus. No, but Yes! There are so many ways to reach out. Maybe it’s in an email or a phone call or even a text, something that brings Jesus into the conversation. The objective that will happen naturally, is that your joy and excitement become contagious. People will be asking you, why are you so happy? Let Jesus live through you, it will change your life.

Follow these thoughts for a moment: Overall, I am always so happy and positive. I do have my moments of tears and doubt and disappointment; but, I think overall, I have a very positive demeanor. Back when Chrissy was first diagnosed with Cancer (May 2010); my dear long-time friend Jack McElligott came over our home to spend time with us. He and I were close spiritual buddies back then, kind of like me and Al are now. Well, after visiting and spending time with Chrissy, Jack said, “Let’s go outside and chat if that’s ok?” Of cause, so we went in the yard and sat on a bench. I knew Jack just as long as I knew Fr. Mullally. So, we sat, and he looked at me, I smiled at him. He said, “I get it Jim. Here you are smiling and positive through all of this. Jesus is really truly alive inside of you. I get it. You trust fully in Him and I see that.” Sometimes all we have to do is truly believe in God and know that everything will be fine, if it be His Will, and of cause live a life reflecting that. We don’t have to understand it, we just have to do it and know it. Jack passed away on October 15, 2010 at the age of 85, he was a WWII Veteran, retired NYC Police Officer and a business owner and a Devout Catholic, and my dear friend. Oh yea, Jack was also an operating engineer, operating a crane in the construction of the World Trade Center, an amazing man indeed, there is even more that can be said about this Godly man. Yea, I miss Jack.

Jesus gives the mission to the Apostles

Pondering these thoughts today: We are all called to be Ambassadors of God. And through the Good News of today’s very gospel, we have learned about this. Sharing our faith with others is a vital part of who we are in our faith. Living it is even more powerful. We don’t have been at the podium and preach in that way. No, I feel most comfortable talking one on one. Yes, I have this platform to share, but with that said, I feel like this message goes to each and everyone of you personally. I don’t feel like this is a crowd. So, what do we do? Let us do like the Apostles and spread the Good News to all.

I have a challenge for you: I did this many many years ago. I started a prayer list (of people: names), some people I knew, most I didn’t. I made it my goal to get at least 2 new people a week added to my prayer list. These 2 had to be people I didn’t know, and I wanted to share Jesus with. I did this for years, it becomes easier when it becomes a habit to share our Lord with others. You can do it! God Bless you…

The Father’s Hand

BEADS OF JOY 04-24-18
“The Father’s Hand”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 10:22-30 (Feast of The Dedication)
“It was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon. So, the Jews gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness to me; but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

Reflection:

Our focus should be on the security of our hearts, being locked into our Lord’s heart. Do you feel secure in your future? ...in-fact, this world hates Jesus on all secular levels; there is a good chance that you can be influenced away from believing in Him and loving Him. Sadly, many already have. We must work diligently to bring them back.

Do not let that happen to you. The world has always hated Jesus. Be strong and hold your allegiance to Him no matter what. Do you hear God’s voice in scripture? Do you see Him in the actions of others? Do you feel His presence when you are in Mass or at Adoration? Tear down the wall that you have between you and Him; allow Him to come into your life and into your heart. Jesus loves you so much! Spread His love to others; be His love to others!

Yes, in this life we encounter all sorts of horrible trials, stress and difficulties that even take our lives or those we love so much. But what are we to do about all this? Surrender? And to whom? Surrender only to Jesus, He alone will help you through the most difficult of times, even if you must face persecution. God alone has a plan for each of us. His Will is beyond our understanding, and that’s ok. His Will will take us by surprise and we may not even understand it; but we must have faith and trust in that God knows what’s best for each of us.

Feast of The Dedication – John 10:22-42

Pondering these thoughts today: So, be honest with yourself: Do you feel secure? How can you be secure? It’s actually very simple, even though I have been sharing this for decades, I will keep saying it as long as I here and hopefully my words will still continue beyond that. I always say, Jesus Christ 24/7/365. Go to Mass as often as you possibly can. Go to Adoration every week, at least for an hour. Do your best to read your bible every single day, at least the day’s gospel. Pray The Rosary or some form of devotion every single day. The summary here is: Do all you can to be completely absorbed into Jesus all your life, that to me is the best security. I don’t need a million dollars in the bank to feel secure; or a security system with cameras and walls surrounding me. I only need Jesus Christ 24/7/365!

They Know His Voice

BEADS OF JOY 04-23-18
“They Know His Voice”

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 10:1-10 (The Good Shepherd)
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber; but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So, Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them. I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Reflection:
Fully focused on Jesus
There can be no other way;
Fully completely focused on Jesus
We must do this every single day.

Let us not lose our focus, in this life
The lies of the world are meant to deceive;
You must be bold, don’t be scared
Keep your allegiance to Jesus, you shall receive.

Learn His Word, Know His Voice
Remain focused on the Lord above;
Learn His Word, Know His Voice
For it is Jesus alone that is love.

Today I thought to write a poem. I really just kept today, light-hearted because this scripture is the beginning of what was shared yesterday at Mass. The video below is John 10:1-22.

I Am The Good Shepherd

Pondering these thoughts today: Might I encourage you to live a life fully and completely devoted to Jesus Christ. Spend your time thinking about Jesus, know His Word, know His life, know all about Him. Study scripture in such a way that it becomes part of your everyday habit. Become very familiar with who Jesus is; in your life and on your spiritual journey to Heaven. Embrace a wholesome, deep, unique, private prayer life. Go to adoration as often as possible. Go to Mass as often as possible and go to confession as often as possible. And always put others before yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and draw you closer to Jesus, your life will never be the same. This are my suggestions, we all benefit when each of us lives a good devout life. We can’t save another, but we can do all we can to lead them to Jesus. God Bless all of you.
