He Said To Them

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:
Luke 24:35-48 (Jesus Appears To The Disciples)
“Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread. As they were saying this, Jesus himself stood among them. But they were startled and frightened and supposed that they saw a spirit. And he said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do questionings rise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have." And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate before them. Then he said to them, "These are my words which I spoke to you, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled." Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.”

Reflection:

We must not forget it was by His Cross that Jesus brought so much joy to everyone in today’s gospel. They were rejoicing in His Resurrection; but everything leading up to it, took great courage and deep faith, so that what He said, would come true. In today’s gospel Jesus showed them His hands and feet, giving witness to His suffering. What we are learning today is the reality of Jesus’ Cross in reflection to the very crosses we ourselves all carry. Looking at Jesus, they couldn’t tell whether He was Spirit or real; you could not tell he had suffered, unless you see His scares and touched Him. It was then that they knew He was really Jesus.

Our lives are sometimes easier understood as a journey, without a map; without a guarantee of success and no matter what we plan, it doesn’t mean it will happen. So much of everything we do is based on faith. We trust that the car behind us will stop and not run into us. We hope and pray that when we slam on our brakes in an emergency, that the car will stop. Take the time and think about all the things we have trust so much in. Think about these things: Was the bridge built safe enough to drive over? Did the neighbor lock his gate, so the dog won’t get out? Were the vegetables I bought today, safely grown and safe to eat? Is my water clean and safe? Most of the time it is the judgement of others around us, as they rely on our judgement for their safety. We sure do place a lot of trust in the everyday life we live around us. It’s really amazing isn’t it? My conclusion with all this trust in just living, it sure makes it so easy to say, Jesus I Trust In You.

Pondering these thoughts today: Our Lord knows our heart; He knows our worries and He knows our concerns. Today let us begin to really trust in Him. In-fact today is a good day to begin to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, it’s usually prayed at 3pm (the hour our lord died), but realistically you can pray it at any time. This Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. Here is a video to help you pray along. The priest leading the Divine Mercy in this video is the EWTN, Divine Mercy Priest (Fr. Joseph Roesch, MIC) he is personal friend of mine, we grew up together and we went to Prayer Meetings together back in the early 1980’s on Staten Island. His family and my family are good friends. His dad recently passed away.
