Must Be Ready

BEADS OF JOY 10-24-18
“Must Be Ready”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:39-48 (At An Unexpected Hour)
“But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an unexpected hour." Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?" And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, `My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master's will but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.”

Reflection:
Doesn’t satan come like a thief in the night, to do all he can to steal our soul and rob us of everything; including our faith and do all he can, to draw us away from God? He works hand and hand with society in this world, a society that is opposed to God, to do all they can to make us believe that there is no God. We must do all we can to keep our lives focused on God and not fall victim to the flesh and worldly treasures that draw us away from what really matters. Yes, we will fall and yes we will stumble; but we must do all we can to get back up, ask for forgiveness and more forward. God is a merciful and loving God and He only wants what’s best for us; sometimes it takes all we got to be strong in the temptations that surround us. Keep the faith my sisters and brothers.

Be watchful! Yes, at an unexpected hour Jesus will come for us. We must be ready at all times. Do not be unprepared or caught unaware of His return. Plan and prepare as if that very day and hour was to be today. Plan and pray each day, not in fear or worry, but in joy and praise that His return will bring much happiness for all. Do not live a life that is unpleasing to Him. Keep your soul clean and your heart open to His Word. Read His Word every single day, pray the rosary or any such devotion every single day, go to Mass as often as you possibly can for one day it may be impossible, go to adoration every chance you get, go to confession often to cleanse your soul. I don’t speak these things in fear or worry. I speak these things, because this is what really matters in this life; this should be on your “to do list” this should be your life’s joy’s and thrills, this is what you should be spending your time doing each day, week, month, year.

If you have been given much, much will be expected; those aren’t my words or my ideas, Jesus said that. Here read it for yourself, “Everyone to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.” So, I would expect everyone out there who has been blessed with much, you will be expected to help those in need (the poor, the needy). I’m sure you have neighbors and friends and family members who could really use help. If you wish to be anonymous, then be anonymous, just help, God will know your heart. The treasure that matters the most is the treasure that God Himself has given us. What is that you ask? It’s the gift of the Holy Spirit that works through us. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that we have faith, hope and love and God’s grace and so many other wonderful gifts that empower our faith. It is the Holy Spirit that helps guide us to Jesus, when we open our lives to be faithful to the Lord. My prayers continue for all of you. Talk to you tomorrow.

The Journey Continues

BEADS OF JOY 10-23-18
“The Journey Continues”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Dear Friends,

I’d like to take this opportunity to update you with what is going on in my life. I am asking for your prayers and to let you know I will be praying for you and your family at the altar in the Basilica.

Tomorrow I will be moving up to Niagara Falls, NY, so that I will be 6 miles from the Fatima Shrine/Barnabite Fathers in Lewiston, NY. As I continue my discernment to the Priesthood, I want you to know that I will be praying for you at the Basilica. Prayer is truly one of the most special gifts to give, and to receive. Fr. Peter told me, that I have till June of 2019 to be fully prepared. I have already been accepted, that’s no problem. Now the ball is in my court and my children must have their lives situated and I must provide a clean bill of health report, from my doctor. Both which are not fully in order as of now. My youngest son Charlie is midstream on a few options and directions, but then he is only 18. And my health, well, my left side is still very numb and unpredictable. When I walk a lot, which I do, I tend to limp or feel too sore to continue walking, so I must rest. In my heart, I feel once my life situation changes after this move, and all my stresses and focuses will change; I honestly believe I stand a much greater chance at getting better. I lost all my weight (60 lbs) only since I was able to embrace Chrissy’s loss, to move forward from Chrissy’s death. I believe all of what is going on in my life is what is holding back my healing.

How did this all begin?
When I got involved with Best Lent Ever at Dynamic Catholic in Feb 2018, (this is my second BLE) I never thought I would be here seriously thinking about this today. Have I always wanted to be a Priest? YES! But, I wasn’t so focused on that thought or possibility. After I became widowed, I wasn’t initially thinking about anything. The Priesthood never entered my mind back then, I figured I was too old, and this could never happen. I still don’t know if it could happen, but I would like to explore and find out.

Well as Best Lent Ever continued I realized how much I truly love serving others. I felt our Lord calling me, more and more as I read so many of those honest posts, sharing their life’s joys and struggles. I always prayed for everyone and I always asked for our Lord to lead me to those I need to comfort. And as the weeks went on, I felt my heart and my soul draw closer to a more serious commitment in my life to our Lord. Not necessarily thinking Priesthood, but I felt I was being called to a much more sacrificial life. Then, one day early on, on this 40-day journey, it was Day 17, we were asked:  If you could do anything, what would you do?

This was my post that day:

Good Morning Everyone...
I didn't think I would be here today, I live in NE Pennsylvania and the storm hit our area really hard. A tree fell on our home and another one fell on our cars. Power came back late Saturday and the internet is still choppy. Hopefully I can comment today without any issues.

If I could do ANYTHING, what would I do? I think in all honesty I would want to be a R.C. Priest! A priest who writes books about the Rosary and speaks publicly at different parishes and places sharing the ROSARY. Before I ever thought about getting married or anything like that I wanted to be a Priest in 1983. My mom and I always prayed about what our Lord really wanted me to do. In the end I wanted to be like my Dad and I really wanted my own children, lots of them. I am truly passionate about Jesus my Lord and I know I do serve Him fully now. But WOW how amazing would it be, to be a Priest on the altar bringing Jesus to OTHERS through the Eucharist. I truly love the Mass with all my heart. I hope my comments post today, I keep losing my wi-fi. I missed you guys...

The positive response to that post on BLE was amazing and overwhelming. I am still getting support and encouragement from so many of those amazing Best Lent Ever new friends of mine. It feels like some sort of a confirmation, that I am heading in the right direction. So, I am fully exploring all the possibilities and all the options I can have. If there is no way remotely possible; maybe there can still be a place somewhere on the Altar, to serve others in some way. I am seeking God’s Will and direction in my life spiritually, now more than ever, throughout this discernment. Every single prayer request I have made since this journey has begun, has been answered, literally, my exact request. I always ask that “...if it be Your Will Lord, than I want it even more.”

There is still more to share, but for now I will say, thank you and please keep in touch. I want to send out Christmas Cards this year, but I need your address.

Just a heads up, once I get settled up there. I will be making many videos, plus there will be live events to share. Stay tuned. The ministry will be cranking it up and we will have so much Joy of The Lord to share, with our Lady and the Rosary as a big part of all this.

Your Soul Is Required

BEADS OF JOY 10-22-18
“Your Soul Is Required”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:Luke 12:13-21 (Beware of All Covetousness)
“One of the multitude said to him, "Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?" And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, `What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, `I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, `Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God."

Reflection:
Yes, this is The Parable of The Rich Fool. Have you ever been involved in the settlement of an estate, a will where money had to be divided? Or the sale of a home or real estate where the sale had to be divided? Well, that is where covetousness unfortunately begins for many. Many of us know too well what it means to be on the losing end of that. But Thank God, those of us who are, know that our investment in the things of Heaven far exceed the greed of this world. Yes, it hurts to be burned and screwed but so be it. We must move forward and forgive and know that like Mary; even though Martha worked diligently Mary possessed the greater. We reflected upon that in an earlier gospel. Though not the same type of reflection, the basic idea is there. The closer we are to Jesus, the better.

In this parable today, Jesus wants us to look through the depths of our heart and see where our treasures really are. What do you treasure the most? What means more to you than anything on the face of the earth? I’m not talking about people, this about possessions, stuff, things, what is your heart focused on and longing for and desiring so much attention these days? Is it that new car? Maybe a new home? Did your financial assets exceed the 3-million-dollar mark yet? It is not evil to want such wealth and success; it is only sad to waste your life and miss the mark when it comes to preparing for what really matters. You see in today’s parable the rich fool missed the opportunity in his abundance to share with others! He selfishly was so concerned with no one else but himself. His concern for others did not exist at all. That is the saddest part of this story. How many people, families, homeless wanderers could he have fed or gave shelter to with his abundance? Instead he hoarded his wealth and his death was in vain. What a sad unfortunate waste. His legacy was a legacy of pride and selfishness.

If we hoard and covet and protect and keep everything selfishly for ourselves and share nothing with anyone else; what good are all the blessings we receive. God has blessed us for a reason, so that we might share those blessings. It’s so obvious how wonderful God has made all things come together. While some people are so gifted in gardening and farming and they are able to grow crops in abundance; he also blesses others with the gift of investment so that they know how to invest to increase their finances. If the two work together in harmony; both will eat good and live comfortably. All that we own and possess is God’s even that which we gain in profit and crop. The profit and crop are the blessings of God’s hand in our lives. What we do with them is a direct reflection of who we really are. Let us always consider others when we have been blessed; sharing what we have with those in need and doing all we can to be charitable with a loving, giving heart. Just a suggestion, to make the world we live in a better, more harmonious place for all. God Bless you, talk to you tomorrow.

You Will Be Baptized

BEADS OF JOY 10-21-18
“You Will Be Baptized”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Mark 10:35-45 (Request of James & John)
“And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Reflection:
Are you ready to give up even your very life in service to others? Jesus taught us to pick up our Cross and follow Him?  Why would that sacrifice be such a Joy? I know to some that makes no sense. In today’s gospel some of the disciples seem to have wanted power and recognition and authority, so they too can be side by side with Jesus. Thinking Jesus had this “celebrity” lifestyle of fame. Jesus’ life was a life in preparation for sacrifice. I don’t think the disciples completely seen what we obviously can see from our vantage point. Had they fully understood at that time the mission Jesus was here for maybe; just maybe they wouldn’t have so aggressively wanted to be so equal with Him at that time. I could be wrong.

We must have love in our hearts and we must be humble at all times. The Cross of Christ can be bitter, but many of the disciples will soon indeed die horrible horrific deaths because of that Cross. Their love is sincere, and their commitment is real, and their example is a good one for us to learn by. How much do you really love Jesus? How much does your life reflect that love? Are you bearing a Cross in this life that has some “Faith & Belief” packed on it? In other words, are you ridiculed for your faith? That’s a lot to digest I know.

Are you willing to die for Jesus? If you were told to decide Jesus or death? What would you choose? Now be careful and think clearly. Because at some point Jesus will look upon you, one on one, eye to eye, and that chose will be a reflection of that conversation on that day. Another way to look at this… Jesus or You? Who do you choose? Remember Jesus died for all of us to save us. Choosing ourselves is selfish; choosing Jesus is being loyal and faithful to one who died for us, the one saved us, the one who forgave us. Pray about these things, the Holy Spirit will lead your heart.

Will Teach You

BEADS OF JOY 10-20-18
“Will Teach You”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:8-12 (Here I Am Lord)
“And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of man also will acknowledge before the angels of God; but he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious how or what you are to answer or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

Reflection:
Do you securely place your hope in Jesus Christ? Today I chose a title and a song that is more or less something we must and should do; give ourselves fully to Jesus. When we give of ourselves willingly and openly to our Lord; we allow Him to direct His Will in our lives in a way that we don’t resist. I know sometimes we don’t always understand God’s Will and we fear giving ourselves like this; but if we only trust in Him with all our hearts, He will only bless our lives in ways that will bring such joy to our lives.

We must have faith, in what Jesus says today, “for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” That by the power of the Holy Spirit we will be led and guided not only to do His Will; but to get through the challenges of this life. God’s mercy and love comes to us without measure or limits; all we must do is embrace His love and turn away from our sins. Do not let pride or stubbornness separate you from God’s grace. Simply allow the power of the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with God’s love and mercy; your life will never be the same and your love for Him will only get deepen and stronger.

Let us keep in mind that is by the power of the Holy Spirit, we have become sons and daughters of Almighty God. The Holy Spirit has been freely given to us through our open acknowledgment that Jesus Christ is Lord. Let us remember that the Holy Spirit is here to help guide us and show us the way to Jesus our Lord. When we get brave and bold in our faith and we stand up for what we believe; you know that is the Holy Spirit at work in you? The Holy Spirit empowers us to be strong witnesses, not even the threat of death will stop us from speaking the truth. Jesus died so that we may live and spend eternity with Him and the Father in Heaven. We must be strong and confident in the same; knowing that it is the power of the Holy Spirit, that you will find strength and peace at the moment. Trust in the Lord and you will find peace and answers always. See you all tomorrow.

Fear Not

BEADS OF JOY 10-19-18
“Fear Not”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:  Luke 12:1-7 (Nothing Is Covered Up)
“In the meantime, when so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they trod upon one another, he began to say to his disciples first, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed or hidden that will not be known. Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. "I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Reflection:
Who are the “hypocrites” of our time? No, I am not answering that. LOL. You all know who they are. Hypocrites lie and pretend and make believe they agree with one thing; while telling someone else they are in agreement with something completely opposite, hypocrites are both men and women. It is a hypocrite who thrives on the chance to change their masks whenever they please, thinking how wonderfully skillful and incredibly ingenious they are. Hypocrites tend to be insincere and very phony. Most people can spot a hypocrite when they speak, most know the double life they are living; we must pray for them and even more for those we can’t spot so easily, for they deceive and mislead many.

The Pharisees misled many, they thought they were so close to God and so perfect in His sight; yet they mislead and mistreated many. Our faith demands an honest upright life. We must be who we say we are. We must be who we portray ourselves to be. Many rely on our hearts to be close to our Lord; as we help them on their journey to Jesus. Honesty is always the best policy in all cases. There is no acceptable reason to lie to or mislead anyone. Jesus says, “whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.” This is far worse than having someone spy on you with a secret video or microphone. All our secrets -all our lies -all our cruel mean words, plans, ideas, destructive intentions that have destroyed others will be on display for all to see one day. Everyone will know, we will not be able to deny the hypocrite we have become. Unless we clean up our lives and live a life pleasing to Almighty God.

But fear not my sisters and brothers there is a way to cleanse your Spirit and keep your life pure in God’s sight. First of all, live a healthy God-Fearing life. Fearing God does not mean you are afraid of Him; it simply means respect and reverence for God. It is a healthy fear, wanting to do good in God’s eye. You can easily find it throughout scripture, here is one verse that says a lot. “Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.” ~2 Corinthians 5:11

Here is another my sisters and brothers: Go to Confession often and be humble and with an open heart; is truly one of the best ways to keep your Spirit clean before the Lord. Don’t hold anything back, open up and let it all out; make sure you prepare yourself well, before you go to confession and make sure you are sincere with your intentions. “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” ~James 5:16 Jesus knows our hearts, He knows the intentions of our hearts, the real reason why we are asking for forgiveness for our sins. Be sincere and Jesus will forgive you. Go often and your Spirit and your life will constantly be cleansed clean in His sight. Love you guys always, talk to again tomorrow.
