Parable of The Rich Fool

BEADS OF JOY 07-31-16
“Parable of The Rich Fool”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:13-21 (Parable of The Rich Fool)
“One of the multitude said to him, "Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me." But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?" And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, `What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, `I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, `Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

Reflection:
How arrogantly presumptive are we that we will live another ten or twenty years or even see tomorrow? No one knows how long we will live. How many times has it been said, “Oh my Gosh, he was so healthy I can believe he died like that” Or “Wow! That was sudden I was just speaking with her yesterday they seemed perfectly fine and now she is gone.” That’s how fast our lives can be taken, we need to live in the present and do all we can in the present while we are still here. When we set our sights selfishly into the future we tend to forget the needs of others currently in the present.

Our Lord has blessed each of us with gifts some of us are blinded by selfishness and can’t see these gifts, but all have them. Some might have the gift of compassion, others may possess the gift of empathy and love, while others maybe have the gift of being a real true friend. At the same time God has blessed some with the ability to help others. In today’s gospel this farmer was blessed with an abundance of crop (food). And what was his first thought?  “And he said, `I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods.” Sadly, this man was fully focused on himself, when he had the greatest opportunity to feed orphans and the needy; instead of helping those in need all he wanted to do was keep it all for himself. How sad.

And here’s where the agony of this man’s life begins… Without knowledge of his life’s end and his only focus was his own self-centeredness; his life would end that very evening and none of these possessions of his own would be able to come with him. By choosing his own will and not God’s will; this man will enter into God’s presence with a burden of explanation as to why he could not find it in his heart to help others after God has blessed him so much. Selfishness is very destructive.

Jesus First. Others Second. Me Last. Simply way to live an abundant live full of God’s love and grace.

Death of John The Baptist

BEADS OF JOY 07-30-16
“Death of John The Baptist”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matt 14:1-12 (Death of John The Baptist)
“ At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus; and he said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist, he has been raised from the dead; that is why these powers are at work in him." For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison, for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; because John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet. But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company, and pleased Herod, so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter." And the king was sorry; but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given; he sent and had John beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. And his disciples came and took the body and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.”

Reflection:
John’s boldness against the sins of Herod eventually caught up with him. Herod did respect and fear John. But Herod’s wife was angry and when she saw the opportunity to direct her daughter’s decision, she decided she couldn’t take it anymore.  Did John overdo it? Was he too personal calling out their sins? If John were to do that in today’s society would he suffer similar consequences? These questions do make us think of how far should anyone can take judgement against another.

John The Baptist is from the Old Testament and the ways of the Old are different than the ways of the New. When Jesus came into the world, there was repentance and forgiveness. No one judged another but God alone. Remember when they wanted to stone the woman accused of adultery? Here is that scripture:

John 8:2-11

At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them,

“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”  Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.

Jesus has taught us a tremendous lesson is forgiveness and to never judge another. No matter what others have said about another person; it is not our place to judge someone. God alone (“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”) is the only judge. We trust in His judgement. We do all we can in this life to encourage and direct and lead others to Jesus. We can teach and preach and show them the way. But if they so choose to have a life that excludes Jesus, all we can do is pray for them and ask Jesus to touch their hearts. Never give up on anyone, never judge anyone; just keep praying for them…

Raising of Lazarus

BEADS OF JOY 07-29-16
“Raising of Lazarus”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 11:19-27 (Raising of Lazarus)
“…many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary sat in the house. Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. And even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you." Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world."

Reflection:
Do you still seek the abundant life in this fast paced changing world that only wishes to eliminate Jesus, and all of His followers off the face of the earth? What gives you that hope and joy; while knowing about the killing of our fellow believers around the world?

In today’s gospel we read how the loss of a loved one greatly effects even believers; even one who clearer knows about the resurrection. Martha immediately had to meet Jesus knowing He was already on His way; a close friend of theirs as well as their teacher. Martha and Mary needed Jesus to help them through this most grievous time of their life.

My testimony of love forges forward no matter what. If you are scared by those who hate you because you love Jesus?? You need to get down on your knees and pray more. Be strong and do not fear death. To a Christian death is the beginning of eternal life for us. And knowing and loving Jesus is the beginning of that eternal life for all of us. So I say embrace Jesus boldly and never back down; unequivocally profess your faith no matter what anyone says to you. Jesus died for both you and for me so that we may live eternally with Him.

"Never does our suffering make Him happy, but it is necessary for us, and so He sends it to us, while, as it were, turning away His face.... I assure you that it costs Him dearly to fill us with bitterness. The good God, who so loves us, has pain enough in being obliged to leave us on earth to fulfill our time of trial, without our constantly telling Him of our discomfort; we must appear not to notice it...Far from complaining to Our Lord of the cross which He sends us, I cannot fathom the infinite love which has led Him to treat us this way...What a favor from Jesus, and how He must love us to send us so great a sorrow! Eternity will not be long enough to bless Him for it." ~St. Therese, Joy In Suffering

"Never cease offering me the incense of fragrant prayers for the salvation of souls, for I want to be merciful to the world. With your prayers and sweat and tears I will wash the face of my bride, holy Church." ~St. Catherine of Sienna

"O what precious moments these are. It is a happiness that the Lord gives me to relish almost always in moments of affliction. At these moments, more than ever, when the whole world troubles and weighs on me, I desire nothing other than to love and to suffer. Yes, my father, even in the midst of so much suffering I am happy because it seems as if my heart is beating with Jesus' heart." ~St. Padre Pio

Kingdom of Heaven

BEADS OF JOY 07-28-16
“Kingdom of Heaven”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matthew 13:47-53 (Kingdom of Heaven)
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. "Have you understood all this?" They said to him, "Yes." And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old." And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there.”

Reflection:
I simply love this gospel today; it offers such hope for so many. You know how many of us try and try to live a good life and might even think, “What for, look how others live their lives doing what they want, having so much fun, embracing the treasures and lust and things of this world; is all that I am doing worth it?” Well, today’s gospel confirms that indeed it is well worth all the effort. Look at this, “The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.” That’s verse 49. I’m not hoping for the worst for others, but I am glad to see the reward of those who are doing their best to live a good life righteous before God.

Almighty God sees and knows all of what we do, not only in sight, but more importantly what is in our hearts. The thought of the Kingdom of God gathering up souls into a net is incredible. But even more incredible; have you ever considered the worldwide death rates on an hourly, daily and yearly level? Well after doing some research I have learned some pretty amazing things. Our Lord gathers a huge net full of souls every single day of every single year. Check out these numbers.

I have gathered this information from a Google search: Average life expectancy at birth is approximately 67 years. Sources: Population Reference Bureau & The World Factbook (Central Intelligence Agency)

·        Nearly 2 people die a second.
·        105 people die per minute.
·        6,316 people die per hour.
·        151,600 people die per day.
·        55.3 million people die per year.

Prepare Now... PRAY! GO TO MASS! Love Jesus with all your heart, mind and soul… Never allow the world to distract you or consume you. One day we will all be on this list. We must be ready at all times.

Sold All He Had

BEADS OF JOY 07-27-16
“Sold All He Had”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matthew 13:44-46 (Sold All He Had)
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”

Reflection:
Do you have a very special place in your heart where you keep the Lord tucked away safely? Is Jesus your treasure? And would you sell all you had in order to have Him, if that’s what it took to have Jesus in your life? Today’s gospel leaves us wondering why would anyone sell everything they have to buy a field or a pearl? I guess the simplest answer is that there must some great value, enormous value in possessing it.

The Kingdom of God is without a doubt the Greatest Treasure of all. Let us spend our lives seeking it, sharing it and looking forward to spending eternity in it.  And I see Jesus as the Priceless Pearl. Our lives need to be consumed by our faith and our love for God. He alone should dominate our every thought, our every desire, our every objective every day.

I think you will enjoy this scripture, it focuses completely on where our treasures are. Matthew 6:19-24 (Treasures in Heaven)

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Explanation of The Parable

BEADS OF JOY 07-26-16
“Explanation of The Parable”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matt 13:36-43 (Explanation of The Parable)
“Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field." He answered, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.”

Reflection:
I absolute love it when Jesus takes the time to explain a parable to us. His words of wisdom are entrenched in the parable. But when He takes the time to explain exactly what He meant, the way He intended us to understand it, now that is magnificent. Today we continue reading in Matthew's gospel. Our scripture is Matthew 13:36-43 (Jesus Explains the Parable of the Weeds). This parable gives us the foresight we need to have so much more patience with the evil around us. Many often wonder, "Why are Catholics such wimps when they are attacked and criticized?" The funny part is, they say that with obviously no scriptural knowledge of God's wrath. See we are not wimps, we are like the kid in the playground who are being beat up and threatened. As we take the hits and hear the slander, our father (GOD) and all of His buddies (The Angels), and the police (God's Word) are coming shortly, to pronounce judgment on the guilty. We know if we act like our father asked to, with kindness and love and forgiveness, that we would receive our eternal reward with Him in Heaven. We must be like Jesus in the Passion. The guilty, sinful, evil doers will be thrown into prison for all eternity, or like Jesus says, "into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth." Guess those evil-doers didn't get the memo. God's wrath is sufficient when we wish the enemy to be defeated. Of cause and by all means it would be so much better if the evil, no good, thugs would repent and ask God for forgiveness and mercy. We shall pray for that outcome. We must love our enemies above all things when we are being assaulted. Even if a gun or a knife is at our throat, we must be like Jesus and love and forgive them.

Honestly now, let’s really look at this and understand what Jesus is warning us and the enemy of. The enemy has planted seeds of hatred, angry, violence, lust, pride, selfishness, everything sinful you can possibly imagine. All those seeds have been hurled into our world and they desire to use that evil harvest to entwine us; into their messed up world of sin against life and love, and against God. And in the end the evil doers of the world want us to be just be like them, so we to separate ourselves from God, by hating them. Not only are the evil doers, the soldiers of satan; but they are deceitful, lying backstabbing people who despise the peace and love that we have with God. Our contentment gives them even more rage. I have seen it with my own eyes and heard with my ears in many a conversations. The funniest part of hearing someone’s anger towards God or Christians is by not fighting back... Oh no don't fight or argue. Just let them know that you already know how all this is going to end and you already know who wins. And then further that, if they give the chance to continue speaking and tell them that you forgive them. I will be honest with you; you must have the kahunas to do this. LOL. I mean it, if there is one thing angry mean evil doer hates, is our sincere heartfelt smiles and forgiveness and not even a flinch of offense from them. We act like we don't even hear them or care. We do care, but we can't allow ourselves to respond mean or hatefully. We must not. I know we want to, but we must trust in Jesus as we are abused and slandered. Pray, "Jesus, I trust in You"

You see the battle that has been in place for the last two thousand plus years is Jesus planting His seeds of hope, love and charity all over the world; while satan is doing the exact opposite. There's a saying that most everyone knows, "What goes around comes around." My parents use to say that a lot when I was kid. They'd say to me whenever I'd get angry, "Don't get angry Jim, let's pray that that person finds kindness in their hearts. And if they don't, what goes around comes around." That never needed to be explained to me as kid. It just meant that the evil someone gives you, will one day be the very same evil that they will receive. It's sort of biblical in many ways. We are all sinful in this world, maybe we are not evil doers killing the innocent or deceiving the masses. But regardless we are still guilty of sin. So we must consider the words Jesus has told us, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” ~Matthew 7:1-2. Jesus was very serious about this. You see our enemies judge us by our faith and devotion and how we respond, or don't respond to them. We must not be like them, God's wrath is waiting for those who do.

We must only allow the love we have for Jesus to dominate our lives and our hearts. Do not allow anger or hatred to enter your heart or the way you react to evil. We must ingrain in our thoughts and understanding that the last will indeed be first and those who rudely believe they are first and that the world revolves around them, they shall be last. Scripture is clear on this, “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.” ~Matthew 19:29-30. We must always put Jesus first in our lives over every single person we know, and every single thing we possess. When in doubt, pray out loud, "Jesus, I trust in You!!!"

Request of James & John

BEADS OF JOY 07-25-16
“Request of James & John”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matt 20:20-28 (Request of James & John)
“Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?" They said to him, "We are able." He said to them, "You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Reflection:
Are you ready to give up even your very life in service to others? Jesus taught us to pick up our Cross and follow Him?  Why would that sacrifice be such a Joy? I know to some that makes no sense. In today’s gospel some of the disciples seem to have wanted power and recognition and authority, so they too can be side by side with Jesus. Thinking Jesus had this “celebrity” lifestyle of fame. Jesus’ life was a life in preparation for sacrifice. I don’t think the disciples completely seen what we obviously can see from our vantage point. Had they fully understood at that time the mission Jesus was here for maybe; just maybe they wouldn’t have so aggressively wanted to be so equal with Him at that time. I could be wrong.

We must have love in our hearts and we must be humble at all times. The Cross of Christ can be bitter, but many of the disciples will soon indeed die horrible horrific deaths because of that Cross. Their love is sincere and their commitment is real, and their example is a good one for us to learn by. How much do you really love Jesus? How much does your life reflect that love? Are you bearing a Cross in this life that has some “Faith & Belief” packed on it? In other words, are you ridiculed for your faith? That’s a lot to digest I know.

Are you willing to die for Jesus? If you were told to decide Jesus or death? What would you choose? Now be careful and think clearly. Because at some point Jesus will look upon you, one on one, eye to eye, and that chose will be a reflection of that conversation on that day. Another way to look at this… Jesus or You? Who do you choose? Remember Jesus died for all of us to save us. Choosing ourselves is selfish; choosing Jesus is being loyal and faithful to one who died for us, the one saved us, the one who forgave us. Pray about these things, the Holy Spirit will lead your heart.

The Our Father

BEADS OF JOY 07-24-16
“The Our Father”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

Originally Written July 28, 2013
My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 11:1-13 (The Our Father)
“He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." And he said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.”

And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, `Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will answer from within, `Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything'? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!".”

Reflection:
Today’s gospel one of the disciples asked Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray…” and Jesus indeed did that. Jesus taught the disciples (us) a most blessed, loving prayer. It is here that Jesus teaches us that we must see God, as Father; hence we are His children. Today let us reflect on the meaning in all its splendor to this most magnificent prayer. For starters I will use the Catechism to help direct us through today’s reflection.

Catechism of the Catholic Church References
#2761: The Lord's Prayer "is truly the summary of the whole gospel. “Since the Lord. . . after handing over the practice of prayer, said elsewhere, 'Ask and you will receive,' and since everyone has petitions which are peculiar to his circumstances, the regular and appropriate prayer [the Lord's Prayer] is said first, as the foundation of further desires."

#2763 All the Scriptures - the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms - are fulfilled in Christ. The Gospel is this "Good News." Its first proclamation is summarized by St. Matthew in the Sermon on the Mount; the prayer to our Father is at the center of this proclamation. It is in this context that each petition bequeathed to us by the Lord is illuminated:

The Lord's Prayer is the most perfect of prayers. . . . In it we ask, not only for all the things we can rightly desire, but also in the sequence that they should be desired. This prayer not only teaches us to ask for things, but also in what order we should desire them.” ~St Thomas Aquinas

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

As we look further into this let us look at how The Lord’s Prayer has 7 Petitions with in it. This is why the #7 is always signified with Jesus.

#2803 After we have placed ourselves in the presence of God our Father to adore and to love and to bless him, the Spirit of adoption stirs up in our hearts seven petitions, seven blessings. The first three, more theological, draw us toward the glory of the Father; the last four, as ways toward him, commend our wretchedness to his grace. "Deep calls to deep."

Here are the 7 Petitions with there (Latin) translation. And a simple brief statement from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (#).

1st Petition:  Hallowed be Thy Name  (Sanctificétur Nomen Tuum)  #2858: By asking "hallowed be thy name" we enter into God's plan, the sanctification of his name - revealed first to Moses and then in Jesus - by us and in us, in every nation and in each man.

2nd Petition: Thy Kingdom come (Advéniat Regnum Tuum) #2859: By the second petition, the Church looks first to Christ's return and the final coming of the Reign of God. It also prays for the growth of the Kingdom of God in the "today" of our own lives.

3rd Petition: They will be done on earth as it is in Heaven (Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in coelo, et in terra) #2860: In the third petition, we ask our Father to unite our will to that of his Son, so as to fulfill his plan of salvation in the life of the world.

4th Petition: Give us this day our daily bread  (Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie) #2861: In the fourth petition, by saying "give us," we express in communion with our brethren our filial trust in our heavenly Father. "Our daily bread" refers to the earthly nourishment necessary to everyone for subsistence, and also to the Bread of Life: the Word of God and the Body of Christ. It is received in God's "today," as the indispensable, (super-) essential nourishment of the feast of the coming Kingdom anticipated in the Eucharist.

5th Petition: And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. (Et dimitte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris) #2862: The fifth petition begs God's mercy for our offences, mercy which can penetrate our hearts only if we have learned to forgive our enemies, with the example and help of Christ.

6th Petition: And lead us not into temptation (et ne nos inducas in tentationem) #2863: When we say "lead us not into temptation" we are asking God not to allow us to take the path that leads to sin. This petition implores the Spirit of discernment and strength; it requests the grace of vigilance and final perseverance.

7th Petition: But deliver us from evil (Sed libera nos a malo) #2864: In the last petition, "but deliver us from evil," Christians pray to God with the Church to show forth the victory, already won by Christ, over the "ruler of this world," Satan, the angel personally opposed to God and to his plan of salvation.

Pondering these thoughts today: In your quest to “find” Jesus in your life; do you feel that you can approach Him at any time? Today Jesus tells us, even if we are requested bread in the middle of the night by a neighbor to whom we will eventually give bread to; will not God also provide for us regardless of its inconvenience or time in which we request it. Every day let us pray the Lord’s Prayer in confidence as we honor, worship, love and adore our Lord.

Guarding The Good Seed

BEADS OF JOY 07-23-16
“Guarding The Good Seed”

 My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:
Matt 13:24-30 (Parable of the Weeds Among The Wheat)
“Another parable he put before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the householder came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?' He said to them, `An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, `Then do you want us to go and gather them?' But he said, `No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.'"

Reflection:
The world we live in is so much like today’s gospel. We have weeds growing and living side by side with wheat. Some are related, some are neighbors, some are friends. Our lives are all entwined, we must have patience and understanding to why we must wait for the harvest. It is then that we can separate the wheat from the weeds at the proper time.

At that time God will reward each one of us according to what we have sown and reaped. Did we sow weeds and poison in this world with hatred and anger and sin? Or did we sow wheat and share love and mercy and fellowship and forgiveness to all, placing others first before ourselves, but after we have placed Almighty God above all in our lives? I’m just a simple man sharing 33 years of insight and faith and inspiration with as many people as I possibly can before I die or get killed trying.

I encourage you to be a sower of the word, share your story with as many others as you possibly can. You say, “I have no story?” YES, you do!! Share with others why you love Jesus. Share with others why your faith is so strong. Share with others why you refuse to be afraid to be faithful to Jesus. Share your love for our Lady. Share your love for the Rosary. That my friend is your story. Share it in conversation or write it out, either way share it as much as you can.

Here is My Story. It’s been shared worldwide, read by countless thousands around the world for many years. I hope this encourages you to share YOUR STORY...

I Have Seen The Lord

BEADS OF JOY 07-22-16
“I Have Seen The Lord”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

 My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 20:1-2, 11-18 (I Have Seen The Lord)
“Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him."

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." Saying this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her.”

Reflection:
How focused are we on Jesus in our lives on a day to day basis? It’s seems as though even Mary was focused on the empty tomb and not on the Risen Lord. She was easily distracted from Jesus by simply not focusing upon Him. Yet she realized it was Him as soon as she spoke His name, her eyes were open. Do we go through our life the same way? Not seeing when it is Jesus right there in front of us? Not hearing when it is Jesus that is speaking to us? Are we that disconnected from Jesus?

Let us do all we can to live a life that keeps Jesus in the front and center of our thinking. Let us also live a life that keeps Jesus in the front and center of our planning. We should also live a life that keeps Jesus in the front and center of our choices. Jesus… Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, must be the very first person we think of when we open our eyes in the morning and the very last person we think of when we close them at night. See when we do that, it is then that everyone else falls into place, spouse, children, parents, others, etc.… Jesus must be first always. It’s that balance that will keep us more perfectly focused throughout our day.

Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it:Love your neighbor as yourself. ~Matthew 22:36-39

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” ~1 Peter 1:8-9

Purpose of The Parables

BEADS OF JOY 07-21-16
“Purpose of The Parables”
©2016 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

 My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matt 13:10-17 (Purpose of The Parables)
“Then the disciples came and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?" And he answered them, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to him who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says: `You shall indeed hear but never understand, and you shall indeed see but never perceive. For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn for me to heal them.' But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. Truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

Reflection:
We must open our mind and open our hearts to understand the parables of Jesus. If we straight out don’t believe, we won’t hear; if we are skeptical, we won’t take the time to understand. Our faith must be true to our belief, so that our hearts will be open in reverence to hear God speak to us through the parables. We have been chosen by God to be called His Children. Let us love Him and Listen to Him and learn from Him so that we to can share the amazing love He has to share with everyone.

The “Word of God” must stay alive in our hearts and we must do all we can to nurture it each day, by reading our bible as often as we can. Embrace the Bible as your favorite book and always have one available to you. Read it often. Write in it. Make notes, spiritual ones of your personal experiences throughout your journey. Highlight scripture that affects your life and make notes why…

For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” ~Hebrews 4:12

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very Words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” ~1 Peter 4:11
