Let Him Hear

BEADS OF JOY 01-31-19
“Let Him Hear”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Mark 4:21-25 (The Parable of The Lamp)
“And he said to them, "Is a lamp brought in to be put under a bushel, or under a bed, and not on a stand? For there is nothing hid, except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret, except to come to light. If any man has ears to hear, let him hear." And he said to them, "Take heed what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you. For to him who has will more be given; and from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away."

Reflection:
Living in God’s light means that all our secrets are brought out into the light for God to see. Yes, that can be frightening if we are hiding something; but it can also be a blessed freedom of joy to, to be out of the darkness. Our mission if we are to assume one in this life; is to be the one who brings the light of Christ to others. To help them see the truth of the Gospel, free help them from the blindness of their sin and help them out of the deception of this world. Yes, we have a lot of work to do.

Do you know there is so much Joy living in the Light of Christ? None of us are perfect, no not one! But we are all children of God and we are all saved and forgiven and cleansed of our sin by His Holy Blood. All we must do is ask, seek and knock and Jesus will there for us for all eternity. Surrender to Jesus fully my friends, there is no better life to live. Those who choose to be against God I believe only do so because they have never ever had a relationship with Him. If they knew of His love and mercy and compassion, they’d never a life that did not embrace Jesus.

I reach out to all of you who maybe never considered a life devoted to Our Lord. I reach to you, to tell you He is the One the Only One who you should be worshiping and adoring. Jesus Christ died so that you, me, all of us might live eternally with Him and The Father in Heaven. If you don’t know Jesus Christ, maybe it’s time to get to know Him. Kneel down wherever you are, bow your head and ask for Jesus to come into your life. He will change your life for the better. He will never ever leave you or forsake you. He will always be there for you. He will always give you a feeling a calmness and peace in this world of discontent. Even if someone is shouting at you for loving Jesus or threatening you because of your love for Jesus, you will find peace even in that situation. Nothing can or could or would ever separate you from His love. Nothing! See you all tomorrow.

He Began To Teach

BEADS OF JOY 01-30-19
“He Began To Teach”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Mark 4:1-20 (Parable and Its Purpose)

The Parable of The Sower
“Again, he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. And he taught them many things in parables, and in his teaching, he said to them: "Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it had not much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil; and when the sun rose it was scorched, and since it had no root it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. And other seeds fell into good soil and brought forth grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirty-fold and sixty-fold and a hundredfold." And he said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

The Purpose of the Parables
“And when he was alone, those who were about him with the twelve asked him concerning the parables. And he said to them, "To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables; so that they may indeed see but not perceive and may indeed hear but not understand; lest they should turn again and be forgiven." And he said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?  The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown; when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word which is sown in them. And these in like manner are the ones sown upon rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns; they are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world, and the delight in riches, and the desire for other things, enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown upon the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty-fold and sixty-fold and a hundredfold."

Reflection:
I am a simple man, who loves parables. Cyril of Alexandria said this about parables, "Parables are word pictures not of visible things, but rather of things of the mind and the spirit. That which cannot be seen with the eyes of the body, a parable will reveal to the eyes of the mind, informing the subtlety of the intellect by means of things perceivable by the senses, and as it were tangible." Ok, I hope didn’t confuse anyone after that. The first time I read this, I loved it, then I just re-read it this morning after I included it in today’s blog and said, “What?” LOL Maybe I’m just not awake yet. Simply put, parables are Jesus’ way of telling a story that has a message of compassion, love, obedience that within our hearts its meaning is revealed. There are truly so many parables and their meanings vary in each of our lives and at different times in our lives.

Many, many, years ago, when people would go to the library (aka: a building filled with books to borrow, you needed to a member, it’s free) LOL, sorry, I don’t know who all my readers are. Well, back then I use to borrow a book called, “All The Parables of The Bible”. This book along with, “All The Miracles of The Bible” were among my favorite for research and reference. I was so into enjoying these books that I would re-borrow them the three times in a row I was allowed, and, on the day, I had to return them, I handed them in and waited till they were re-shelved, and I took them out again. On a funny note these books were copyrighted in 1963, wow, I finally found something that is actually before my time. You know as I get younger, ok older, it gets harder and harder to find things I am younger than. So, this is nice. Oh, by the way, I bought these books a couple of years ago on Amazon. It made so much sense to have these books in my own personal library.

You know, in many ways, many of us tell parables of our faith. “What are ya talkin about Mr. Jim?” LOL, who said that, I heard that with a Scottish accent, lol. Ok, what I mean is that, all of us, are at some point within our journey of faith. And on this journey, some of us may have experienced something that opened our eyes or opened our hearts to Jesus or to prayer or to go to Mass. That is our parable, our story that we share when we are blasted excited sharing it with others. It is a story that usually catches the ears and hearts and minds of those listening. If you had an experience you can relate to and know personally and someone else has one similar, that story would or at least could have the potential to bring your life closer to Jesus. True! Ok, or you may have a better understanding of empathy of that person or now many other questions you never thought of just got answered. Parables of our faith can serve many purposes, sometimes you never know how your story may affect someone else’s life. So, tell it, share it.

Pondering these thoughts today:
What I suggest here in today’s reflection is this: Write your story or stories! Share them with family and friends! This is the start of your magnificent legacy of faith. A legacy needs a story, it needs the details, it needs the emotion, it really needs to be shared. Sit down or walk with a recorder and speak it. No matter how you do it. Do it!! My dear long-time friend and sister in the faith Jan Martinez encouraged me to write my story. For almost a year we chatted on the phone sharing our faith. This was going on, while I was driving an 18-wheeler across the United States. Somewhere on my way to Oklahoma City, OK in 2006, Jan said, “Write your story so others can read it.” I am so glad I did. I have shared my story worldwide all these years and according to Blogspot it has been read many thousands of times worldwide. I hope and pray that someone out there got blasted excited about their faith after reading about my early days and how I began my journey.

The Will of God

BEADS OF JOY 01-29-19
“The Will of God”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Mark 3:31-35 (Jesus and His Family)
“And his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside they sent to him and called him. And a crowd was sitting about him; and they said to him, "Your mother and your brothers are outside, asking for you." And he replied, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking around on those who sat about him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother."

Reflection:
What is the Will of God? For each of us? I can’t say that I know these things definitively, but I know I can say what God’s Will is: “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” Matthew 22:37. Today’s gospel isn’t about Jesus rejecting His family, rather it is about Jesus teaching us to place God first, even before His very own family. I know that, that maybe a hard teaching, it was for me back in 1983. But soon after I completely entrenched my life into God’s Word and prayer and adoration and the Rosary; I truly realized that I can never love anyone else the way I do, until I truly, sincerely loved God first.

In the movie Fireproof (clip below) we see how in Caleb’s apology; he shares with Catherine that it was through God that he now has a love for her that he never had before. Chrissy and I loved the movies made by this church (Sherwood Baptist Church). They were produced by Sherwood Pictures it’s an American independent Christian film production company in Albany, Georgia. These are the films they have made: Flywheel (2003), Facing the Giants (2006), Fireproof (2008),Courageous (2011) and War Room (2015). Our biggest draw to these films is how God is the ultimate center of the story, and how family friendly they all are. This was not an advertisement in anyway. I gained nothing by sharing them with you, I just see them as a wonderful addition to your spiritual growth. Check them out..

Sins Will Be Forgiven

BEADS OF JOY 01-28-19
“Sins Will Be Forgiven”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Mark 3:22-30 (Jesus and Beelzebul)
“And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul, and by the prince of demons he casts out the demons." And he called them to him, and said to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man; then indeed he may plunder his house. "Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness but is guilty of an eternal sin" -- for they had said, "He has an unclean spirit."

Reflection:

Today we look at the division of our heart, our homes, our lives, our everything. Jesus makes it very clear in today’s gospel, there are no neutral parties. Think about this, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your ownFor you have been bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Ok, now that we understand that our bodies are the very place the Holy Spirit resides, how do we live our lives?

True freedom and peace can only be found in Jesus Christ. So, with that in mind, we remember that whatever controls and leads our appetite and our desires in our lives, must be ruled by Jesus. Satan will do all he can to mislead us, misinform us, and lead us into hell, and make it look all pretty and wonderful. We must open our hearts to Jesus and allow Him to rule in our lives. Like I always say Jesus 24/7/365! We must never put our guard down. We must shield and protect our relationship with our Lord, even if it costs us our lives. Yes, I said that, I know I would, I hope many others have the same passion and love for Jesus.

Maybe another way to look at this, is the way you love your spouse. I do know some of you are married, some of you are single or divorced or widows or widowers. I can only share my own experience as a widower after 30 years of true love and bliss. Yes, we had challenges like any other marriage, but our marriage had a foundation of love that was extremely rock solid and committed without question. So, no matter what, period, no matter what the circumstances, period, we would get through it and remain in love and dedicated to one another. Our love was real, and we did face many challenges that shook us hard. But we’d hug each other through it all and say, no matter what we will get through this together. If you really love Jesus, do you yell at Him or curse at Him or belittle Him or keep complaining to Him, if He didn’t do what you told Him to? Of cause not, that sounds completely absurd. I said that, like that, on purpose. Our love for one another must be tender and real and respectful and sincere always, no matter what; with complete understanding and compassion and right to pass, with instant forgiveness (a bazillion times over) in any and all situations. Now does that make sense?

Pondering these thoughts today:
Is your house divided? Or rather, is your heart divided? The way we love Jesus must and should be, the way we love our spouse and our children and those around us. Can you image what a peaceful, loving world this would be, if we would just stop being so selfish and thoughtless in our words and in our actions. Let us not live divided, but rather united in love. Relationships will mend, and hearts will heal. God wants us to love others, as He has loved us. Sometimes it isn’t always easy, but through prayer and fellowship and love and forgiveness, we shall find a way.

Filled With Joy

BEADS OF JOY 01-27-19
“Filled With Joy”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

If there's anything I have tried to accomplish or gain with all these many years of blogging; it's the chance to really explain and share the very JOY that is inside of me. I have written about this before, I thought maybe I'd approach it from another angle. Now many of you know a lot of the basics. Our religion isn't at all about a "religion" it's all about a "relationship". Our faith is our Lord’s love, and that love fills our hearts with JOY. Our desire to follow our faith is all based around the love in our relationship with Jesus. It's not a faith we sin against, rather it is a person we offend and hurt when we sin. Let's first understand what JOY is, the way I see it in my own life. The center of JOY is "Others". With that being said, know that that's the center core to my JOY and could be yours to.

I sincerely pray that this all makes sense, and that you to will be able to embrace JOY as I have. To start with we must have a sincere focus in our life on our Lord. That relationship must come first and foremost in our thinking and living each day. We must see Him and know Him as a person, as God, as our Savior. We must give Him the utmost respect and love as if He were standing before us right now. This key aspect of JOY to me is so important. I also have a couple of other activities in my life to keep that flame of JOY glowing in my life. For starters I have a very rich, very alive bible study routine (habit if you will), that keeps my heart filled with JOY in the word. I also watch: The PassionKing of Kings, The Jesus Film and Paul The Apostle over and over and over and over, to the point that I know these movies almost verbatim. Strange, maybe, but there is a purpose. I want the positive image of Jesus and His message alone, etched in my brain and my heart. You must have heard of, out with the bad, in with the good. And yes, I tear up heavily every time at the Scourging and the Crucifixion, a true cleansing. And lastly, I try my best to communicate in fellowship with many believers, so that the synergy of excitement for Him gets magnified.

Those three activities are such a critical part of who I am spiritually; and they all play a role in keeping the JOY I have in my heart overflowing. In my life Jesus comes alive everyday in those three ways. In His Word, In His Image and In Fellowship honoring Him. I do all I can to incorporate all these activities as frequently as I possibly can every day. I believe sharing Him is the greatest gift I can ever give in return as my Thank You. Nothing in this world compared to Him has any value whatsoever. Nothing! I place no value or hold on anything in this life. "For His sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him," Philippians 3:8. Another very powerful part of my life is minimal physical materialistic attachment to this world. Yes, a mouthful indeed. LOL, but another vital key to my JOY: minimal distractions.

Finally my sisters and brothers, I say rejoice and praise Him in your every waking hour. When we think of our parents in our hearts, we have such JOY and we love them. Even after the thought of love has left and other thoughts flood our mind, subconsciously we continue to love them. That special connection of never "not" loving them, needs to remain in us with our love for Jesus. Embracing Him as if He were standing right here, right now is so important. Allow the power of the Holy Spirit to have Him become so alive in your heart, that your soul can't contain the overflowing JOY it'll produce. "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27. Others !!! Must come first, not only in fellowship but in mercy and love. Here is the order: Jesus always first, Others always second, You always last. J.O.Y.

Get it! Got it! Good!

Allow the JOY of Jesus to overflow in your heart and soul.

The Crowd Came

BEADS OF JOY 01-26-19
“The Crowd Came”
©2019 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Mark 3:20-21 (Blasphemy of the Scribes)
“Then he went home; and the crowd came together again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for people were saying, "He is beside himself."

Reflection:
Do not be afraid to follow Jesus all the way to the cross. Do you have people in your life who oppose you from loving and following Jesus? Does anyone think you are a little too much into your faith? Remarkable, my mother who invited me to my first prayer meeting and maybe unintentionally got me involved; after I got involved full steam thought maybe I am overly involved. When you read “My Story”, you will see how I surrender my life and jumped into my faith fully. I got involved almost immediately into 3 weekly prayer groups, plus I was going to the Fatima Shrine in Washington, NJ a lot, for Confession and Mass and to Pray The Rosary!! And I was sharing the rosary non-stop with everyone. I was out of control and I loved it. Lol... I still am...

Plus, since I was living at home still (this is in 1983), I started a Bible Study at my parent’s house. We met weekly and talked about the upcoming Sunday’s gospel. None of us were scholars, and none of us were trained to teach, we were just all excited about talking about scripture and Jesus and our Lady and praying together. Our group at times was almost 10-12 people. It’s incredible I can remember those days, like they were yesterday. I asked everyone to bring their Bibles, I bought a whole bunch of 1 subject notebooks, I typed out our meetings plans, prayers and references I found, in advance to our meeting. I still get so excited when I do Bible Study, kind of like what I do every single morning when I take the time to write my blog. This blog is sort of an evolved version of that Bible Study. It is just now, technology changed the style and it has expanded the group tremendously.

When I think about “Why I feel so strongly about my faith?” I come to this conclusion. This life is too short, and this life is too cruel. Fully trusting in Jesus Christ has allowed my heart to be loved unconditionally, Jesus never judges me, He doesn’t snicker at me or tell me things that hurt me. I’m never judged or corrected by Him. Jesus accepts me and embraces me and loves me so much, like no one else ever has or ever could. This love I felt back in 1983 is the love that keeps my heart so drawn to Him. I found this same love when Mary, our Mother came into my life on that first day at that first prayer meeting. Now do you see why it seems like, sometimes I am on drugs when it comes to my faith. Because I am! I am so addicted to our Lord, our Lady and the Rosary.

Pondering these thoughts today:
I admit, I am an addict when it comes to my faith and my spiritual life. And honestly, I don’t really care who don’t like that. I am a calm person, loving everyone and embracing everyone; but if you are trying to keep me from believing in Jesus and Praying My Rosary, when then, SORRY, too bad for you. Jesus First!!! No one stops me. Even if my life depended upon it, Jesus will always be first in my life! Me, I will always be last!
