“Keep The Sabbath Holy”

My Friends,
Today’s
Gospel: Matthew 12:1-8 (Keep The Sabbath Holy)
“At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath; his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath." He said to them, "Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are guiltless? I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is lord of the Sabbath."

Reflection:
We all need to ask ourselves (This is between you and our Lord): Am I honoring the Sabbath to the fullest the way I should be? And… Do I understand what scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church has to say about the Sabbath? Well you are very fortunate. Today I have brought together both of those and more to help you better see the importance of Sunday and why it is so important in our Journey of Faith.

The Bible mentions the “Sabbath” 154 times.
96 (Old Testament) - 58 (New
Testament)
“Remember the Sabbath day
by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the
seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your
God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter,
nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing
in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the
earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh
day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” ~ Exodus 20:8-11
“Keep my Sabbaths
holy, that they may be a sign between us. Then you will know that I am the Lord your
God.” ~Ezekiel 20:20
“He said to them, “If any of
you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold
of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore,
it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” ~Matthew 12:11-12
Catechism
of The Catholic Church
3rd Commandment…
Remember The Sabbath Day, to keep
it Holy.
