“The Good Portion”

My Friends,
Today’s
Gospel: Luke 10:38-42 (The Good Portion)
“Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her."

Reflection:
We live in a world that is filled with sometimes needless, crazy, endless, meaningless preoccupations. Most of it has to do with checking our email, our texts, our social networks, how many likes we have accumulated, updating our status. It’s utterly crazy what this world has turned into. What happen to a much simpler quiet life before cell phones? I know “forget about it!” Well I refuse to…

In today’s gospel Jesus clearly
shows how being preoccupied even in good things, even in service to Him and for
Him is not above spending time with Him. The Good Portion, The Best Portion,
The Only Portion we should seek each day is the one that allows us to spend
time with Jesus each day. We must prioritize our day around our Lord. In other words,
plan your day around Jesus: Prayer, Mass, Adoration, The Rosary... Quiet Time.
