Prepare – For His Arrival

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matthew 17:9a, 10-13 (Coming of Elijah)
“And as they were coming down the mountain the disciples asked him, "Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?" He replied, "Elijah does come, and he is to restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also, the Son of man will suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.”

Reflection:
Let us continue to PREPARE, Christmas draws near, and Jesus will be here. Throughout the entire Old Testament, the focus was all about pointing us in the direction of the Lord, John the Baptist was the last to direct us. Shall we focus and PREPARE our lives and our thoughts in preparation of Jesus’ arrival. He is coming you know. Our lives must be all about getting ourselves prepared for eternity. We have more than enough time to PREPARE; even though we don’t really know how long we will live.

You know I believe God is a very merciful God, and He really, really, wants all of us to be with Him in Heaven, no matter who we are. I see end of life suffering, especially for non-believers, as time for those who don’t believe to turn to Him. Of cause we must turn away from our sin and ask for forgiveness; I see the end of life in long suffering, as that time gifted to us by God. At that time most are surrounded by family and friends who mourn and pray by their bedside. Long suffering has purposed the way I spiritually understand it. God really loves us with a capacity we won’t ever understand.

Here is an interesting conversation I had with my two sons about 6 years ago, I’ll never forget it; Charlie said, “I have so many questions I want to ask God, when I see Him.” Travis immediately jumped in and said, “I believe the minute we see God, all the questions we ever wondered and thought about, will be immediately be answered just in seeing Him and we won’t have to ask Him anything.” I felt blessed to hear this conversation between our 12-year-old and our 16-year-old. The insight was astonishingly impressive. God is most certainly a part of their daily thoughts. Praise Jesus.

Today’s gospel is found in Matthew 17:9a, 10-13 (The Coming of Elijah). Today we end week 2 of Advent and tomorrow begins week 3. Week 3 will begin the week of focus on Repentance. As we PREPARE for His arrival, we must repent; we must cleanse our spirit and prepare our lives, so that we might be able to give all we have to Him. Our purpose in life must include our Lord, without Him, our purpose has no purpose. As this New Year approaches, plan and PREPARE to change the things in your life that you really want to change. It’ll be a fresh new start for all of us; to be closer and closer to our Lord.
