Bear His Own Cross

BEADS OF JOY 11-07-18
“Bear His Own Cross”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 14:25-33 (The Cost of Discipleship)
“Now great multitudes accompanied him; and he turned and said to them, "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, `This man began to build, and was not able to finish.' Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace. So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.”

Reflection:
So are in or are you out? Think of this as a ship leaving the dock, you are either on the ship or you are off the ship, you can’t do both. After today’s Gospel you should be able to make up your mind. Jesus speaks straight, pure, truth now. To what measure are you willing to follow Him? You must forsake everything and everyone! Wait did you skip that last sentence, that’s Ok I’ll just say it again, I was probably talking so low, no one heard me anyway. YOU MUST FORESAKE EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE! Your life must be consumed by Jesus completely. Yes, it’s all about Jesus and it should be.

So, you are still reading, that’s a good sign. Let us not forget that Jesus willingly embraced His cross, not only because God so desired it; but so that we might be set free from the bondage of our sins. Jesus paid for our sins with His blood. We, my sisters and brothers have been bought for a price. Jesus counted the cost and said YES to what His Father wanted and died so that we might live. The life Christ offered to save ours was a great sacrifice; the greatest sacrifice anyone can ever make for anyone else. He willingly did it out of pure love for us. In return we must love Him with every fiber of our being. So, toughen up and take up your cross! Sacrifice your life and don’t turn back! What is the cost of true discipleship? Simply look at Jesus. What did it cost Him? It will cost us the same. EVERYTHING!

So I say this as it did in today’s Gospel “Count The Cost” and live your life wisely and prepare as you move forward. If you are a True Disciple, there will be a cost. And yes, you will pay a price for it, if indeed you are a true disciple. If you bare the Cross of Christ in your life and you live accordingly. Then you do not live a rosy, peachy, utopia life of lavish plenty, being taken care of by servants. On the contrary, as a true servant and disciple you will have sacrifices and suffering and ridicule and hatred, and mean things said to you. I have spent 35 years of my life “Publicly” loving and sharing our Lord, our Lady and the Rosary. I have been yelled at, threatened and told hateful mean things about my faith, my priests, my pope, my Lord, our Lady from around the world. Words that cut deep, even scared me to death. “The Cost” of being a disciple! To me it doesn’t matter what they say or do. Jesus is my Lord always, even if it costs me my life. Talk you tomorrow.

Flashback of Mysteries

BEADS OF JOY 11-06-18
“Flashback of Mysteries”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

This is a flashback of mysteries, that Chrissy and I prayed together. I wrote these prayers while caring for her. I prayed these prayers for her as we prayed the Sorrowful Mysteries together. We always prayed the rosary together before Chrissy got sick, but when she got sick, we prayed even more.

The Sorrowful Mysteries with Chrissy

Today we Pray The Sorrowful Mysteries, might I suggest these meditations to be added to your prayers; when you ponder on each of the mysteries. As Mary invites us to Pray The Rosary each day, she invites us to unite our prayers with hers as she presents all of them to her Son. This very simple, very humble prayer is hated by the evil one; all the more reason to be so devoted to it. But I will warn you from my own experience, the more devout you become (my own experiences), the more it seems like satan targets you, and your family. You must remain strong and loyal to Jesus, no matter what. The Sorrowful Mysteries brings me to tears, but in that; they strengthen me, for this life. These meditations were written when I was by Chrissy’s side; while she was suffering on January 1, 2013.

When Chrissy became ill and I really was the one who took care of here every single day; she and I would spend many hours just talking about eternity and Heaven and we’d smile and even giggle with joy. But, when we talked about our Lord’s suffering, we’d share tears, tears of suffering I didn’t understand, but to whatever degree I know Chrissy understood. I hope you feel my love for our Lord, our Lady and the Rosary in them.

Sorrowful Mysteries

1. The Agony in The Garden
 - Happiness of God
(Loving You Without Always Understanding)

Dear Lord, I beg of you to guide me when I don’t understand, lead me and show me the way. There are so many times when different events happen in my life or in the lives of family members that I just don’t understand, please show me the way. I know you know that I won’t understand everything, but with that said, know Lord that I am very joyful in You, loving You, trusting fully and completely in You Lord. Amen

2. The Scourging at The Pillar
 - Patience of God
(Admirable Serving You Lord Fully)

Dear Lord, I turn to you with patience, without full understanding. Serving You Lord is my life; I live for my love for You. These lashes hurt, but I won’t scream. The lashes cut, and yes, I bleed. The lashes burn as events and situations continue to hit us, but I don’t surrender. These lashes throw me down on my knees, but only to love and praise You my Lord. I have patience, because I trust fully and completely in you Lord. Amen

3. The Crowing with Thorns
 - Beauty of God
(Unspeakable with Suffering)

Dear Lord, so much pain goes unspoken, so much pain I choose to hide. I think I am strong, then I collapse, I know You are there for me and my family Lord. Sometimes I feel like my body is being poked and punched with a reed. Sometimes my insides bleed with so much pain; I can’t explain it to anyone but You. But know Lord, that I trust fully and completely in You always, no matter what. Amen

4. The Carrying of The Cross
 - The Omnipotence of God
(Boundless in Strength Forging Forward)

Dear Lord, the path I am on is very bumpy, narrow, filled with pot-holes and with no one by my side helping me along the way, except You. Yes, many tears flow, as we suffer; yet, we are not left alone on this path, carrying this cross, knowing You are with us. We shall remain on this path, forging forward for You Lord, suffering for our love for You. Nothing will distract us; we will only continue loving You and trusting You more fully and completely. Amen

5. The Crucifixion of Jesus
 - Justice of God
(Tremendous Love is Here)

Dear Lord, there are times when I feel the nails being hammered into my hands and my feet. I feel like I am being locked down and I can’t move anymore. I know how horrible that feels only too well. But I know Lord that in all this suffering there is immeasurable love from You, and in that love, blood is shed, and tears are flowing. Nothing can take my eyes off you Lord, not even the suffering pain of death. Even when evil thinks it wins; it loses, because we give all my love to You Lord, trusting and loving you fully and completely. Amen

-----     -----     -----

The Sorrowful Mysteries really do bring me to tears inside, seeing my Lord suffering for my sins and how much He loved me. Sometimes crying is such a cleansing. This past Sunday evening at a Healing Mass at the Fatima Shrine in Lewiston, NY, after I was prayed over and resting in the Spirit, I awoke in tears and inside me I felt our Lord’s love so much overflowing inside me.

Cannot Repay You

BEADS OF JOY 11-05-18
“Cannot Repay You”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 14:12-14 (They Cannot Repay You)
“He said also to the man who had invited him, "When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just."

Reflection:
Who do you favor the most? Who are you trying to impress? Is it the person who can repay you back with a favor or some sort of generosity or jester better than the one you gave? Or Do you help and favor the poor and those who can’t repay you? True generosity comes from someone who has a heart full of mercy and love and they do not count the benefits of gain when they are giving. No, on the contrary, they give knowing that their giving is a sacrifice they desire, to help meet the needs of another. The giving comes from the heart, not the wallet. Do you give freely, or do you take notes and keep a record of what you have given and to whom?

Our Lord wants us to simply be there for one another without a price tag comparison or a “you do for me and I’ll do for you” attitude. The more we can do for one another, the better all of us will be. And the more those who are more blessed can do for those struggling without expecting anything in return; the more charitably loving this world will indeed be. No one can give more than God can give and has already given to us. All we must do is be there for one another; and stop embracing our things and instead embrace each other. Once you begin to understand that, all this will make sense. God has blessed us with each other, now if we can only see the true blessing in that; we’d realize the infinite value in it and all these things wouldn’t mean a thing and the lives of our family and friends would come first.

I realize this gospel was short, not leaving much to reflect upon; but we can reflect on what we can do for others. The best way I have learned to understand and make it so easy to give is this. Everything I have! Everything I own! Everything I earn! Everything single thing, possession or cash, whatever, it’s all 100% God’s first, then He gives it to me to be a steward of His things. I realize many people can’t get to that point, but you can if you want to. One step at a time our Lord will help you understand this. And once you truly understand this, you will be freed from the shackles that bind you to all these things. You may even be poor from time to time, but God shall provide. Reaching out to the needs of others, is one of the greatest joys God has allowed us to embrace. Never sit back and watch someone suffer, instead lean in and help them up and do all you can to make their lives better. God watches everything we do; He knows our hearts. A cup of water to someone thirsty, can be a blessing beyond anything some of us may never understand. Reach out to those in need, don’t turn away; instead stay and help them through their day. Pray each day asking God what you can do. If each of us just do a little good; what a different more peaceful world it would be. My prayers continue for all of you. Talk to you tomorrow.

Love The Lord

BEADS OF JOY 11-04-18
“Love The Lord”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:
Mark 12:28b-34 (The Greatest Commandment)
“And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the first of all?" Jesus answered, "The first is, `Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this, `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that he is one, and there is no other but he; and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no one dared to ask him any question.”

Reflection:
I'm not sure what part of this scripture you like, but my favorite part is, "love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength" That just says it all and its essence sums up the reality of how we should be spending our lives. A love like this is really beyond human understanding to some degree. We need to be "consumed" by our thoughts of Jesus, never seeking our own. Let us seriously use this soon beginning Advent Season to toughen up and be more loyal and devoted to Jesus; like never before.

Questions To Reflect Upon:
-Is Jesus really first in your life?
-And are your neighbors (others) really second?
-Why must we love God, why do think so?
-Do you spend time every day, keeping God first?
(Commit to sometime before the Eucharist,
today is First Friday and tomorrow is First Saturday
)
Eucharistic Adoration, one day a month to start.

Pondering these thoughts today:

With all your heart: Love Jesus more than anyone else in a way like no one else. He deserves every piece of love you can give Him. He died for each of us, to save us. He paid for all our sin in full.

With all your soul: Allow your soul (the Holy Spirit) to seek Him out. Fully embracing Him. There is a part inside each of us that is specifically made for Him, Allow Him to consume you.

With all your mind: 24/7/365, I know that may sound over the top, but personally I love it. Do not let a day or an event, or anything go by, without having God, our Lord on your mind.

With all your strength: Never allow anyone to sway you away from God, BE BOLD!!!! That says it all, stop backing off, don't be scared. Let's follow Jesus' lead and boldly proclaim the Father.

The Greatest Commandment

Humbles Himself

BEADS OF JOY 11-03-18
“Humbles Himself”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 14:1,7-11 (Humility or Humiliation?)
“One Sabbath when he went to dine at the house of a ruler who belonged to the Pharisees, they were watching him.

Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, "When you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest a more eminent man than you be invited by him; and he who invited you both will come and say to you, `Give place to this man,' and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, `Friend, go up higher'; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Reflection:
What is true humility? Why should you take on the characteristics of humility in your life anyway? Who wants to be last? If I am humble does that mean I must always be last? Now there’s no need to get your feathers all ruffled about this. Humility in God’s eyes is a good thing. True humility just takes our pre-occupational thoughts off ourselves; so, that we don’t see ourselves as better than others. Kind of a sobering thought of equality, that is all. Also, humility is the opposite of pride; so being humble helps keep our pride and selfishness in check. We are neither better or worse than anyone else, we are simple equal with them.

Humility is our true self in action, we become honest and real; making ourselves better in the person we really are. We will serve others better when we are humble for the desire of serving them; without having our own selfish desires getting in the way. The true humble person seeks only to serve; they do not seek fame or fortune or any sort of gain when they serve. Success is not in the vocabulary of the humble. Only in successfully helping and serving others. Humility is about giving, not taking. Even in giving the front seats to others. How do you drive out there on the road? Are you courteous? Do you LET others cut in front of you? Do you let someone take the front parking spot? Do you slow down to let someone in? Think about how you can be humble in your everyday life in the simplest things.

Humility is not about being weak, no, no; on the contrary, to be humble one must be strong in self-control and thoughtfulness. You must be thinking all the time about others before yourself, in order to be a sincerely humble individual. Weak selfish people place themselves first all the time; always thinking, only about themselves. It is by God’s grace that you have the strength to live the life of humility. Just think of how truly wonderfully at peace this world would be, our communities would be, our families would be, our friendships would be; if all of us would live the life of humility to its fullest. Selfishness, pride and greed have been the destruction of much around us. But, humility can be the saving grace to all of it. If more and more of us put others first before ourselves; little by little, more and more peace will prevail around us. Just a thought. Keep smiling my sisters and brothers, talk to you again tomorrow.

All Souls’ Day

BEADS OF JOY 11-02-18
“All Souls’ Day”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 6:37-40 (All Souls’ Day)
“All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me; and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me but raise it up at the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

Reflection:
God offers us the free gift of faith through His Son Jesus. And it is through the power of the Holy Spirit that works through us that opens our eyes and ears to the voice and sight of God. We must trust fully in Jesus knowing that the Spirit is the key to our faith, knowing that by the Spirit, we will be guided and taught and shown the way. Sometimes all of this is very difficult to explain in words. But if you trust fully in the Lord you will begin to understand much of this. Each of us are on our own journey home to the Father; even though the destination is the same, our journeys are all unique to each of us.  Even that will make sense as you grow in fellowship with the Spirit amongst your sisters and brothers in the Lord.

Do you place all your hopes and dreams alone in this life? When this life ends where are your hopes and dreams? Our lives never end when we live a life full of the Holy Spirit; we may physically die, but spiritually we will live eternally. We have the greatest gift God has ever given anyone: Eternal life. Death cannot harm us, yes, our bodies will decay and no longer be, but we shall eternally live in Spirit in Heaven with Jesus and The Father for all eternity. In this life, we must think of those things; not in a morbid scary way, but in a predestination sort of way. Hope that all makes sense. Just knowing that our life is eternally everlasting with God; is an absolutely wonderful and splendid way to live this live.

Prayer for All Souls’ Day

Lord God,
you are the glory of believers
and the life of the just.
Your son redeemed us
by dying and rising to life again.
Since our departed brothers and sisters
believed in the mystery of our resurrection,
let them share the joys and blessings
of the life to come. ~Amen

All Saints Day

BEADS OF JOY 11-01-18
“All Saints Day”
©2018 James Dacey, Jr. OFS

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12a (Blessed Are You)
“Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.”

Reflection:
Do you understand happiness, in sorrow? Do you hunger and thirst for God so much, so that nothing else can possibly satisfy that feeling in you, and fill you with such incredible complete contentment? Yes, indeed, that was a huge question. All the things on this earthly life will one day pass and all we will have is Jesus before us. Did you ever the saying, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.”? Well if your entire basket is sitting on the ground of this earth and all the eggs are in it or even if they are in a bunch of different baskets on this earth, then you have all your eggs still in one basket. Think about that for just one minute. Simply move most of your eggs into a basket held by Jesus and you will be making a wise move. Of cause, I don’t mean real eggs, it’s just a saying. I am referring to your focus and your hopes and your dreams and your goals, your time and your life’s purpose. If you are fixated on this earth, this is where you will remain.

We need to use the time we have here the best way we can, focusing on Jesus and sharing Jesus. We don’t have to be college educated or have gone to a seminary. Our faith, simple and pure is all we need. God knows our hearts and our witness is our lives that we live. Everything that we do will be observed not only by God, but by others. The doubters will look and see if what we say, is what we do. The believers will look and see what we say and share, is indeed what we do. But most importantly behind closed doors, God Himself when no one is looking, sees exactly who we are when no one is looking; and it is His eyes that matter the most, for in His judgement we shall be eternally judged. Let us use this time wisely and with the best of all intentions.

There is nothing in this world that we need once we have Jesus. I always consider my life complete with Jesus in it. Nothing else is needed. Period! This is what I have been saying for many decades:

"You can have all this world has to offer, it’s wealth, it’s lust, it’s things; all I want, and desire is Jesus.” ~Rosary Man Jim

I stand by that to this day. The reality is, all I want is my rosary beads and my bible, my family and friends and I’m good. I believe we can all live simple lives without having so much over-excessive stuff; while doing all we can, to help as many individuals and families as possible who have absolutely nothing, including food. That is what we should be doing. Let us reach out to others as best we can. God knows our hearts and our intentions, ask Him to lead you to those in need. Let us all pray for those who suffer the most and ask Jesus to help us help them. May our guide your hearts as we do all we can to help others. Talk to you tomorrow.
