“Our Lady’s Rosary Text Vigil Group”

My Friends,

Many have asked and many have inquired. So today I have put together a blog fully explaining this wonderful group we have. Our hope, our intention is to continue growing in unity; so that more and more of us can pray together each evening. What I have listed below is a bunch of question, some have been asked of me and others fill the gaps of explanation. I hope this very helpful and I hope that you to consider joining with us each evening.
Monday – Friday at 9:00 PM EST.

Started in the spring of 2009
Founded by: Jim Dacey Jr & Jan Martinez

How did this begin?
Jan Martinez and I have been friends for a long time. Back in 2009 her husband Dan had to go away for training for his job. So Jan called me and asked if could chat to help pass the time each night. I agreed and we did for a couple nights. Then I thought, “Hey why don’t pray the rosary together during this time each night?” Jan was thrilled with the idea and so we began to do just that. Then when Dan returned home, I told Jan, “I will text you when I am about to begin my Rosary, just text me back if you can begin to, if not text me what time is best.” And began our text group…

How did others learn of this and wish to join?
The days following our Rosary, Jan and I would speak of our intentions, and what happened during that time of prayer. Eventually others started reading this saying, “Hey, I didn’t see a Rosary posted last night, what are you guys talking about? How can I be part of that?” And so little by little we have grown in devout individuals interested in praying with us.

What is it we do?
Monday through Friday night we pray the 9pm Rosary.

How do we communicate?
I (Jim Dacey Jr) personally text our members a reminder at 8:30 in preparation for our 9pm start time.

What is the message I text?
“As a member of (Our Lady’s Rosary Text Vigil Group) I personally invite you to PRAY THE ROSARY with us at 9pm EST. God Bless +JMJ+”

Do you send this text to any other place?
Yes 2 places. 1 goes to our Facebook group in the private message area, because those in that part of group, either don’t have a cell phone to receive a text or they are outside the US. Today's Gospel: John 3:1-8 (Nicodemus) “Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him." Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, `You must be born anew.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

 My Friends,

I really love today’s gospel, it touches on a very important aspect of our faith, and that is being born again; or like scripture says, “born anew”.  Are you Born-Again in the Spirit? Has Jesus reached out to your heart and grabbed you? I’m saying it that way, because for me that’s exactly how it happened. Jesus literally grabbed my heart. At the time I was a self-proclaimed “atheist”; well at least I made it clear that I didn’t and couldn’t believe in a “God” with all the sorrow that was in the world.

If we can only understand how to stay focused on Jesus in our lives; this life would be a whole new experience, and honestly from my own journey it makes the difficult times so much easier to deal with. In today’s gospel Nicodemus had a genuine interest in understanding what Jesus was teaching about being born-again. Once our bodies are “born” there comes a time when the Spirit to must be “born” or should I say “re-born”. It is said, “Born-again”, because at inception our Spirit is born with our bodies; but after that when we are grown and we live a life focused on Jesus, our Spirit is born-again embracing Jesus in ways our young Spirit could not understand.

This new life gives us something better to live for. Let’s face it; we all have to believe in “something” if not, then your life will be lived and based on “nothing”. How sad that is. Too many people in this world believe so completely in themselves, what a train wreck that is. Can you imagine, you must be the one to give your life meaning and purpose and somehow make your death seem like it don’t stop all your life’s efforts and experiences. Our born again Spirit knows it will spend eternity worshipping and loving and honoring Jesus in Heaven. That is real, and that gives our life true meaning. Embrace Jesus and don’t waste what Jesus has given to you (to me); the chance –the gift of eternal life in Heaven with Him.

Pondering these thoughts: Are you born again in the Spirit? Has the Holy Spirit spoken to you either in your heart or in your mind, directing you to embrace and love Jesus in a whole new enlightening way? When you are born again, you will know, and honestly most people around you will also know. What will they know? There’s something different about you now. The Joy and Freedom you will experience in this new life of Christ will affect those around you, without a doubt.

My Friends,

Today is a most amazing day in our Catholic history. Two living Popes of the present (Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI) will honor two Popes of the recent past (Pope John XXII and Pope John Paul II).

Pope John XXIII
born: November 25, 1881
ordination: August 10, 1904
died: June 3, 1963 (age 81)

 “Obedience and Peace” Obedience constituted the inner disposition of Pope John XXIII and as Pope Francis has recently said, “Peace was his outward hallmark...” Through gradual purification of the heart Pope John XXIII with the instrument of obedience; used them to achieve peace. His long hard and most certainly challenging road, he pursued this path of peace. When Pope John XXIII was dug up after being buried for 37 years, it was said that the condition of his body was like he had died yesterday. His body was uncorrupt. Truly blessed indeed.

“Totally yours” (to the Blessed Virgin Mary).  One of the most traveled and loved Popes of our time. He was just like many of us in many ways, it was said that he would at times sneak out of the Vatican, disguised, so he can go skiing. Parkinson's disease changed all that in his life as he got older. As his life was coming to a close, he suffered a lot with his breathing, he suffered tremendously, quietly embracing it to himself. And so he united this suffering with that of the suffering of our Lord. Let us pray that we to, as we grow older, learn to be like Pope John Paul II in our suffering. He was a most joyful beloved man. He was and still is loved dearly by many around the world; across generations and nations.

Divine Mercy of Love

My Friends,

I love Sister Faustina and the Divine Mercy Chaplet; her diary is such a blessing. Please if you haven't taken the time yet, I highly recommend you read through her diary, you will be inspired but such a Godly woman. If today's message were to be put in a capsule I'd say, "Be merciful and loving to everyone, especially those in our lives who we know don't deserve it."

Each day we need to be more and more like Jesus even more then we try to be on other days. Heaven is real, and so is hell. We are all given this tiny piece in time (our life) to make things right with Almighty God. We have more than adequate time to do so; so we can't waste it on things that in the end bare no meaning to the final judgment of our soul. In the end, all that will matter is that you made your life right with God. We must surrender fully to Him. I know many will resist and believe their own choices and priorities matter first. Sorry, no one, and nothing comes before God. His mercy and compassion and love for us; got himself nailed to a tree so that you and me can spend eternity with Him.

Divine Mercy Chaplet (Prayers)

(Using your Rosary Beads) Begin with the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Apostle's Creed:

Our Father
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified; died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. Then, on the large bead before each decade:

Eternal Father,

On the ten small beads of each decade, say:

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion,
have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Conclude with (Say 3 Times):

and on the whole world.

Optional Closing Prayer

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Suffering is a great grace; through suffering the soul becomes like the Savior; in suffering love becomes crystallized; the greater the suffering, the purer the love. (57)

He who knows how to forgive prepares for himself many graces from God. As often as I look upon the cross, so often will I forgive with all my heart. (390)

Oh if only the suffering soul knew how much it is loved by God, it would die of joy and excess of happiness! Someday, we will know the value of suffering, but then we will no longer be able to suffer. (963)

Benefits of Praying The Rosary

1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.

2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies

4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovoked death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.

Indulgences

from Enchiridion indulgentiarum Recitation of the Marian Rosary (Rosarii marialis recitatio)

An indulgence is the remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, a remission, which one of the faithful, properly disposed and under certain definite conditions, can acquire through the Church, which authoritatively dispenses, applying the treasure of the satisfactions of Christ and the Saints.
An indulgence is either PLENARY or PARTIAL, depending upon whether it frees one from the whole or from a part of the temporal punishment due to sin.
This means that one of the faithful who, with at least a contrite heart, performs a work enriched with a partial indulgence, is granted by the power of the Church that same amount of remission of temporal punishment as he has already obtained by the work itself. In other words, the remission is doubled, and that as often as the work prescribed is performed.  A plenary indulgence means a full remission of temporal punishment, provided that several other conditions apply, in addition  to the work performed or prayer said.

A plenary indulgence is granted, if the Rosary is recited in a church or public oratory or in a family group, a religious Community or pious Association; a partial indulgence is granted in other circumstances.

• "Now the Rosary is a certain formula of prayer, which is made up of fifteen decades of "Hail Marys" with an "Our Father" before each decade, and in which the recitation of each decade is accompanied by pious meditation on a particular mystery of our Redemption."(Roman Breviary) The name "Rosary," however, is commonly used in reference to only a third part of the fifteen decades.

The gaining of the plenary indulgence is regulated by the following norms:

• 1) The recitation of a third part only of the Rosary suffices; but the five decades must be recited continuously.
• 2) The vocal recitation must be accompanied by pious meditation on the mysteries.
• 3) In public recitation the mysteries must be announced in the manner customary in the place; for private recitation, however, it suffices if the vocal recitation is accompanied by meditation on the mysteries.
