By What Authority

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Mark 11:27-33 (The Authority of Jesus)
“And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, and they said to him, "By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?" Jesus said to them, "I will ask you a question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Answer me." And they argued with one another, "If we say, `From heaven,' he will say, `Why then did you not believe him?' But shall we say, `From men'?" -- they were afraid of the people, for all held that John was a real prophet. So, they answered Jesus, "We do not know." And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."

Reflection:
Truth is the only path we must take. The chief priests and scribes were rendered speechless, when they were dealt a dose of reality of truth to consider. Jesus knew they were laying a trap for Him, to be pulled into; so, Jesus trapped them into a question forcing them to speak the truth. Obviously, the truth was not what they were seeking, that is why they couldn’t/wouldn’t answer Jesus. Think about today’s message; Jesus is asking us the same question.

Look at what St. Augustine says about this scripture, "Fearing a stoning, but fearing more an admission of the truth, they answered the truth with a lie, reminiscent of the Scripture: 'injustice has lied within herself.” We must bear the truth and speak the truth as Jesus has taught us. Speaking a lie, like the scribes in today’s gospel, is a direct rejection of Jesus. Some people can tell a lie and hope to their best ability it becomes a truth, their truth, their story. Sadly, we must pray for those people. Sometimes the truth is very difficult to handle; yet I feel a lie is even harder to handle. Aside from offending God, at anytime you can get called out on the lie by someone who knows the truth as fact. Best advice, always be truthful in all things.

Daily Reading for Saturday, June 2nd

Pondering these thoughts today: Do you accept Jesus? We can’t accept Him and then tell Him what we want; we have to accept Him, love Him and do all we can to embrace Him into our lives. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, He gave us freedom from sin and deception and to be Children of God. Jesus is truth, His Word is truth and His Word brings life into our lives. Sometimes His love is so exciting and so wonderful that words are impossible to find, to properly share that love, so that we can even begin to understand it. Open your heart and be consumed by Jesus more fully. Be encouraged to always tell the truth.

LOVE YOU GUYS !!!!
