At An Unexpected Hour

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:39-48 (At An Unexpected Hour)
“ But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an unexpected hour." Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?" And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, `My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master's will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.”

Reflection:
Doesn’t satan come like a thief in the night, to do all he can to steal our soul and rob us of everything; including our faith and do all he can, to draw us away from God? He works hand and hand with society in this world, a society that is opposed to God, to do all they can to make us believe that there is no God. We must do all we can to keep our lives focused on God and not fall victim to the flesh and worldly treasures that draw us away from what really matters. Yes, we will fall and yes we will stumble; but we must do all we can to get back up, ask for forgiveness and more forward. God is a merciful and loving God and He only wants what’s best for us; sometimes it takes all we got to be strong in the temptations that surround us. Keep the faith my sisters and brothers.

Be watchful! Yes, at an unexpected hour Jesus will come for us. We must be ready at all times. Do not be unprepared or caught unaware of His return. Plan and prepare as if that very day and hour was to be today. Plan and pray each day, not in fear or worry, but in joy and praise that His return will bring much happiness for all. Do not live a life that is unpleasing to Him. Keep your soul clean and your heart open to His Word. Read His Word every single day, pray the rosary or any such devotion every single day, go to Mass as often as you possibly can for one day it may be impossible, go to adoration every chance you get, go to confession often to cleanse your soul. I don’t speak these things in fear or worry. I speak these things, because this is what really matters in this life; this should be on your “to do list” this should be your life’s joy’s and thrills, this is what you should be spending your time doing each day, week, month, year.

If you have been given much, much will be expected; those aren’t my words or my ideas, Jesus said that. Here read it for yourself, “Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.” So I would expect everyone out there who has been blessed with much, you will be expected to help those in need (the poor, the needy). I’m sure you have neighbors and friends and family members who could really use help. If you wish to be anonymous, then be anonymous, just help, God will know your heart. The treasure that matters the most is the treasure that God Himself has given us. What is that you ask? It’s the gift of the Holy Spirit that works through us. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that we have faith, hope and love and God’s grace and so many other wonderful gifts that empower our faith. It is the Holy Spirit that helps guide us to Jesus, when we open our lives to be faithful to the Lord. My prayers continue for all of you. Talk to you tomorrow.
