You Will Drink My Cup

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel:
Matthew 20:17-28 (Request of James and John)
“And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day." Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?" They said to him, "We are able." He said to them, "You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Reflection:
I don’t think James and John nor their mother, have any clue what they are asking for. Yes, they said that they can drink the cup Jesus is about to drink; but I am sure at the sight of the crucifixion they will reflect upon this day. Are we so bold and true to our Lord that we too, would be willing to lay down our lives and die for our Lord? Many in the world still die in the Name of Jesus, because they won’t deny Jesus in their life. Today’s gospel has me thinking of another scripture I just have to share:

Luke 21:12-19 “But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for My name’s sake. It will lead to an opportunity for your testimony. So, make up your minds not to prepare beforehand to defend yourselves; for I will give you utterance and wisdom which none of your opponents will be able to resist or refute. But you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death, and you will be hated by all because of My name. Yet not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives.”

It’s been said to me, that “You have faith, religion, Jesus in your life; because you are weak, you need that.” No, on the contrary, you better be bold and strong and passionate about your faith and love for Jesus, because it could cost you your life. How bold are you in your faith? Jesus says, in Matthew 10:38, “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.”

Pondering these thoughts today: Today’s gospel is straight forward to our understanding. Let us embrace Jesus with all our hearts, with all our minds and all our being. For He must be the center of our lives. He must come first in everything and should we be confronted with having to stand up for our faith and Jesus being our Lord, we must do so. One final scripture to keep in mind, Jesus says in Matthew 12:30. I don’t mean to scare you in today’s blog, but let’s seriously understand our faith. We must be loyal and hold our allegiance to Jesus no matter what.

The Unpardonable Sin
He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.”

LOVE YOU GUYS !!!!
