Hearts Will Rejoice

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 16:20-23 (Sadness and Gladness)
“Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. When a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she is delivered of the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world. So, you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name.”

Reflection:
The only way we can gain freedom, (real true freedom) the freedom this world cannot give us; is through the sacrifice of the Cross. Learning to embrace the Cross, our own Cross most especially -will be such a blessing to our own personal spiritual walk. We must bring our sins to Jesus, begging for His mercy and forgiveness; for only at the Cross will we be cleansed and forgiven. Our Spirits grow closer to our Lord; when our Spirit leads us to forgiveness. Mourning for our sins is rejoicing for our love for our Lord. I know today’s gospel focus isn’t necessarily about confession; but with that said, our hearts rejoice every time we repent.

Jesus always knew this part of His ministry would be most difficult for the disciples to understand. Actually, even in today’s time, many still don’t understand the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It’s really easier than we make it out to be. Think of it this way. In order to rid ourselves of the threat of something threatening our physical lives, it is best to kill it or cleanse it. That is what chemo does for the cancer patient, it kills off the harmful cells. Medication kills off a virus, cleaners kill germs. I think that all makes sense. With our sins, it’s all spiritual, the only way our spiritual life can be protected and saved; was though the blood of one without sin. A spiritual cleansing occurs every single time we go to confession.

Through the blood of the lamb, an innocent unblemished lamb (Jesus). God sacrificed the one He loved, to save all of us, whom He also loves. Think of these thoughts of the power in His shed blood.

~His innocent blood brought peace between man and God.

~Though His blood we are forgiven for our sins, so the eternal life is available for us to be with Almighty God and our Lord for all eternity.

~Jesus defeated satan by His shed blood.

~With His shed blood we are always able to come to the Cross and ask for forgiveness. Not out of arrogant presumption, but rather with a humble heart.

~Every confession is a fresh start. Try to go to confession monthly. A clean Spirit is a great goal throughout life.

Daily Readings for Today

Pondering these thoughts today: The Crucifixion was not a defeat. Victory has been won. Do you understand the Joy of Easter in that upon Jesus’ Death and Resurrection He has defeated both sin and death, for us? It is through our own eyes of faith and the help of the Holy Spirit that we begin to see and understand this complete victory. God will not withhold anything from us, His love for us is well expressed in our Lord’s sacrifice. Remain confident my sisters and brothers.
