They Saw Jesus

My Friends,

Today’s Gospel: John 6:16-21 (Jesus Walking On The Water)
“When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea rose because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat. They were frightened, but he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid." Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.”

Reflection:
Just as Jesus approaches the boat, He enters my life calling to me, “It is I, do not be afraid.” So many of us feel this call, this tug on our hearts. Serving comes in all different ways. Maybe it’s about being a Priest, or a husband or a wife, or maybe it’s making sure our young people are getting wonderful direction by our CCD Teachers. Or maybe our Lord is calling you to serve by taking care of your family and ministering to them; after all the family is our first ministry.

Do not be afraid to turn your life over to our Lord. In losing your life, you will certainly gain it. You will gain it by being a servant unto the Lord, which is the best reason to lose it. Jesus gave His life to save us; now is the time to give our (my) life to Him, as a living sacrifice showing my deep love for Him.

This is how I see today’s gospel: It is our Lord reaching out to us, assuring us that it is ok. It is safe, and it is all good, because it is Jesus who is calling out to you (me). Do not let anything in this world distract that call; me, you, or anybody! Stay focused if you are being called. Sometimes we will have to switch jobs or friends, so that we can hear Him. Sometimes a relationship ends, because in His eyes it was not a good healthy one for you. Even if we don’t understand it, we must embrace it and trust fully in Him. His voice is the whisper in the silence of our hearts. Believe you me, you will know when you are called. You will feel this overflowing feeling of love and hunger for Him. You will know He is directing what is happening, there will be a certain calm about everything. I am praying for all of you my dear sisters and brothers.

Pondering these thoughts today: Ask Jesus, how you might better serve Him. But then, you might be doing that already, which by the way, is fantastic. Just ask our Lord to direct you even more, as you continue to serve Him. Maybe you are reaching out to the home-bound with communion and visits to help brighten their day. You can always consider adding a nursing home or a hospital to the places you visit. Just an idea. No matter what, pray about it, asking our Lord to show you what He wants of you, be open and allow the Holy Spirit to lead the way.
